Trigger warning for offensive and sexually threatening language and behaviour
10 years previously
"Where are you taking me?" Arizona asked nervously as Carlos continued to drive in the opposite direction to her house.
"I've tried asking you politely Miss Robbins"
"Politely?" she scoffed "You called me a whore"
"You have rebuffed my attempt to resolve this civilly. But what you need to understand young lady, is that you will not be seeing my daughter again. Now you had the chance to walk away and take the money, and actually make something of your life, but you didn't take it. But you mark my words. You will still be walking away, only you'll be doing it with nothing" Carlos's voice was eerily calm.
"I can assure you, I'm not going anywhere"
"We'll see about that"
Arizona's heart sank as she saw that they were taking the turning towards the shipping yard that Carlos's business operated out of. She had watched too many murder documentaries, mainly thanks to Callie, and this looked terrifyingly like the kind of location where a victim would be found. She tried to shake the feeling off. Surely Callie's father wasn't actually going to kill her? The thought seemed absolutely preposterous, but then again, she had hardly imagined that he'd try and pay her $300,000 dollars to never speak to Callie again either.
Carlos slowed the car to a halt and turned to her.
"Get out of the car"
"What?" she laughed nervously "There is no way I'm letting you abandon me here"
"There is someone here who wants to speak to you" he said simply, nodding in the direction of the office building where a figure was stepping out of the shadows.
Her eyes narrowed as she strained to identify the figure in the darkness. As he moved towards the car, his face become illuminated, and she recognised him immediately.
Eduardo Rodriguez.
Her hand reached for the door handle and then stilled. At this point, she wasn't sure which man she was afraid of more. Looking between them, she decided that based on current knowledge, Carlos was the worse option, and she stepped out of the car.
Unfortunately for her, her current knowledge wasn't a true reflection of the man in front of her.
As soon as she'd shut the car door, Carlos reversed the vehicle back to the entrance of the shipping yard, leaving her alone with Eduardo.
"So" he folded his arms, staring her down "the fact that you're here tells me that you're more stubborn than we figured. That, or just more stupid"
"Why are you even here?" she shook her head "None of this has anything to do with you"
"I know about what you've done to Callie"
"Well you've clearly been misinformed because I haven't done anything to her"
He laughed "Are you really that unhinged that you think that? You did things to her Arizona, sick, twisted things. And then to make it even worse, you actually tried to convince her that what you were doing was ok"
"You're making it sound like I abused her, like she's some kind of trauma victim!"
"That's exactly what you did, Arizona" he stepped closer to her, his eyes cold and unwavering "you took advantage of a vulnerable girl, and over the years, you groomed her into believing that engaging with sexual activity with a woman was normal"
"Are you fucking kidding me? Firstly, sex between two women is perfectly normal, and secondly, we were both girls, or both women, however you want to look at it. I'm not some predator, and everything Callie did, she did willingly"
"Callie doesn't have your sickness. Deep down, she knows what you did to her was wrong. And she can still be saved. She knows that any sexual feelings that she has are really for men"
"Look, I can't speak for Callie, or tell you whether she's into girls, or guys, or both. But I can tell you that whatever she feels, for whoever she feels it, there's nothing wrong with it"
"Ohhhh Arizona" he shook his head, smiling "I actually believe that you meant that"
"I did"
"Which means you might be even sicker than we thought"
"And who's this 'we' exactly?" she stared him down.
"Does it matter?"
"The fact that someone has been talking shit about me matters, yes"
"I think you'll find that someone has been speaking the truth, Arizona. You were seen. Seen with your filthy hands where they shouldn't have been two nights ago"
"Sure" she ignored his attempts to provoke her "so who was it? I know it was a cheerleader, and Mr Torres wouldn't have used that descriptor if it was Aria, so how's about I guess? I mean, it's not like there's many candidates. Penny? Eliza?"
He pursed his lips at the second name, appearing to be trying to conceal a smile.
Arizona raised an eyebrow "I'll take that as a yes to Eliza then"
"Callie's friends are concerned about her"
"Anyone who is concerned about mutual feelings between two consenting adults is no friend of hers"
"Consent, huh? It's interesting that you raise that. Did Callie consent, Arizona? Did you actually ask for her consent before you stuck your dykey hands all over her?"
"Fuck you"
Eduardo laughed again "You really do have a way with words. Funnily enough, having you fuck me was something I thought might happen tonight. I thought you might realise what sex really is and I would have been more than willing to assist"
"I wouldn't go near you, even if the survival of humanity depended on it" she snarled.
"Oh but you already have. Two years ago, or have you forgotten the night you had your tongue down my throat?"
"My tongue went nowhere near you, and you want to talk about consent?" she pointed at him angrily "Because I certainly never consented to anything more than a peck on the lips, and even that consent was hardly freely given"
"But Callie did" Eduardo smirked "She was all over me that night. Or had you forgotten?"
"Callie took one for the team so that I wouldn't have to, because she knew how disgusted I was by you. She's no more interested in you than I am"
"We'll see"
"You stay away from her" Arizona warned.
He just smiled the same unnerving smile again "See…I thought I'd come here tonight, and we might have a little fun. But it seems that you're so far gone, that nothing I can say is going to convince you to do that, and I…"
"You're damn right it won't" she interrupted.
"As I was saying, and I then considered whether I should have a little fun anyway, because, let's be honest, you're hot, and someone needs to show you what it really feels like to be fucked"
"You lay a hand on me and I will kill you"
"Don't worry" he sneered "two minutes of talking to you, and I've realised it would be like fuck a man. I mean, that's what you think you are, right?"
"I'm a woman. A woman who is attracted to other women. Why the fuck can't you get your head round that?"
"You wanna keep pushing me?" his voice started to rise "Because I will go there. Believe me, it really wouldn't take much to get me hard right now and I would have no problem showing you a good time"
"You stay away from me" Arizona took several steps backwards.
"Don't worry" his voice had returned to its previous sneer "I wouldn't want to catch anything"
She went to respond, but Eduardo shook his head.
"And besides" he continued "there's only one woman I want to show a good time to"
Arizona felt an initial wave of relief as the threat seemed to dissipate, but then she replayed his words in her head.
"No…" she whispered "she would never go there…"
"But she will" Eduardo stated confidently "she won't get a choice. That is, unless you leave, and never look back. You see, without you here, I think she stands a chance of finding herself again, without the need for my intervention. But if you're still around, tainting her thoughts, then I will have no choice but to step in"
"What…what are you saying?"
"You have a choice Arizona. You can leave, or you can stay. But if you stay, I will fuck Callie. She may fight it at first, but by the end of it, I promise you, she'll have forgotten you even exist"
"You wouldn't…" her eyes widened in fear.
"Oh really? You see…" he stepped forward purposefully, grabbing her hand and pressing it firmly against his crotch, despite her struggling "this is how hard I am just from talking to you. And you're some dyke who I'm sure would just be complaining the whole time. But Callie…god, the things I could do to that woman"
She finally managed to pull her hand free and recoiled in disgust "You wouldn't dare. You might be an asshole, but you're not a fucking rapist"
"You choose to call it what you will, Arizona. But I promise you, if you don't leave, I will fuck Callie. I might start by taking her from behind, and sure, she might cry a bit, but pretty soon I'll have her turned over and begging me for more"
Arizona could feel her entire body starting to shake but was determined not to let him see her fear "You sick fuck"
"Make your choice Arizona"
"I won't be threatened by you" she stared him straight in the eyes "and I won't let you lay a hand on Callie"
"You don't believe I'm serious, do you?"
"No, I don't"
"You see, there was someone else who thought the same thing. You remember Alex Karev?"
Her blood ran cold "Of course I do"
"He was never good enough for Callie. And I told him so"
"Eduardo" she cut in "he was just a kid"
"A kid who didn't know what was good for him" Eduardo added with a sneer "and I warned him. You remember Mark's party?"
The realisation dawned on her "That was you? You beat the crap out of him?"
"I tried talking to him, same as I have to you. He didn't listen, so I gave him a final warning"
"But…he came back to school with a busted face" she said, still trying to work out what he was getting at.
"Because he thought he was a tough guy. I told him, that was me going easy. That if he didn't back off, it would get worse, but he didn't listen"
"His dad got a transfer…" she said quietly, no longer believing what she had always known to be true.
"I'm sure he did" Eduardo almost laughed "after all, when your son gets a black eye one week and then breaks his legs the next, you probably want to get out of town"
"What?" she gasped "How did I not hear about that?"
"Nobody did. Just like nobody will hear about this"
Without warning, he shoved Arizona by the shoulders, catching her by surprise and knocking her to the floor. He swiftly swung a foot at her midriff, making firm contact and causing her to curl up into the foetal position.
"Don't…" she begged.
"I need you to understand I'm serious" he kicked her again, this time harder "because apparently so far, you haven't quite been convinced that I am"
She cried out, desperately trying to shield herself from his blows.
"Do you believe me yet Arizona? You disgust me, and I would happily just through you into the Pacific right now"
"You…" she spluttered "you wouldn't hurt Callie though. Carlos would never let you. And so I don't care what you do to me"
"I thought you might say that. See, with Alex, he only cared about himself. I knew he didn't really care about Callie, so it was a fairly straight forward case of kicking the shit out of him until he realised what he needed to do. With you…well clearly, you're a bit more complex than that. But then it's really not that hard for me when Callie is so fucking hot that any excuse to fuck her is really all I need. Oh…" he added with an additional smirk "and don't you worry about Carlos, the fact that he drove you here tonight should be enough proof that he will do whatever it takes to protect Callie in the long run"
"You think he would really let you rape his daughter?"
"Are you willing to stick around and find out?" he countered.
She lay on the floor, curled up, for several minutes. Everything….everything he had said about Alex had been true. And the way he spoke about Callie, she had no doubt that he would take any opportunity to get intimate with her, whether she wanted to or not.
Finally, she broke the silence.
"If you…if you swear that you'll leave her alone, then I'll leave"
Eduardo put his hand in the air, she assumed signalling for Carlos to return, on the basis that she heard his car pull back up behind her. She turned her head and watched the man get out of the car and move to stand next to Eduardo.
"Have you reached an understanding with Miss Robbins?" Carlos asked.
"I believe so. You can get up Arizona. Oh, and it probably goes without saying, but if you mention this to anyone, then I think you can imagine what the consequences will be"
Arizona shakily got to her feet, wiping the dirt off of her palms on the back of her jeans. She stood up to her full height, not caring that she was the shortest person there. She lifted her head and stared down the man in front of her, remembering everything her father had taught her about being strong and not letting anyone break her.
"So…" Eduardo smirked at her, holding out his hand "do we have a deal?"
She looked down at his hand, and then back up at his face.
"Yes" she replied simply, making no move to shake his hand.
"Good" Carlos smiled for the first time that night "then I'll drive you home, and this will be the last that we see of you Miss Robbins"
Present day
Callie stood, staring at Arizona with her widened eyes filling with tears.
"No…" she whispered, shaking her head "that can't be true"
"I'm sorry Calliope" the blonde's own tears were flowing freely as she watched the woman in front of her's face contort in pain.
"Please" Callie stepped forward, gripping the blonde's forearms "please tell me that you're making this up. I don't care anymore, I will forgive you for whatever you did, just please…tell me that isn't true"
"I wish I could" Arizona sobbed "and I never wanted to tell you any of this. But ever since you told me that you'd married him I…I've been trying to figure out how to tell you. And this really wasn't how I saw it happening but…it's out there now. No more secrets Calliope"
"I…" the brunette recoiled in horror "I can't process this right now. I have to go"
She turned and began pacing back across the sand. Within seconds, Arizona was chasing after her.
"Wait! Where are you going?"
"I don't know!" Callie yelled back "There's nobody in my life that I can fucking trust right now!"
"Just stop!"
Something in the tone of Arizona's voice made the brunette stop in her tracks and turn around.
"Look, I know you don't want to be around me right now, but I don't think you should go home either. Not like this. Not until you've had time to process what you've heard. So please, just walk with me back to the motel and I can rent you a room for the night. Let me do this for you"
"I don't think I really have another choice"
