Hi! I'm Secret Fox, welcome to my first ever Sonic story. I have been having ideas for this uncommon pairing a lot lately, and I really thought it would be nice to share. I hope you enjoy this first half of the two-shot!

Ah, please keep in mind they have the same age here, of 17 years old.

"Oh, he really is awesome isn't he? And there was this time that..."

Tails listened to Amy as she talked about her favorite blue hedgehog. This had become, perhaps, his favorite time in the day as pretty much every afternoon the girl would come to his workshop and tell about her adventures of her time spent chasing the guy. And what a chase that was; his best friend, Sonic, had his name after how fast he could run. Unfortunately for the pink girl, that seemed to especially come true whenever she went after him, asking if he would marry her as she followed him. Sometimes, she would get pretty upset at the whole situation, but would also cheer up after a small while and return to her quest with admirable energy. This girl loved the guy pretty badly, and she would not be giving up chasing her dream anytime soon.

One had to admire her dedication, though. Sonic was known for his speed, and even in that department, Amy had shown improvement. No, she could not run at the speed of sound like him, but her speed kept growing steadily. Whenever he was not at his workshop working on some new tech invention or repairing an existing one, he had plenty of opportunities to watch those chases. Sonic would never really speed away instantly, but ran at a pace she could still follow and hear him at, as he would tell her to go away. It was only when she would get too close that he would disappear as fast as he could. One of those times, Tails decided to follow them flying, watching the whole scene unfold. And when the guy left then both to eat dust as he fled for his life, he stopped in front of Amy and looked at her.

The dust settled behind the girl as she also had come to a full stop, her hair somehow only slightly messy despite all the running. Her breathing was hard; cardio had limits. The pink hedgehog shouted a few angry things in a slightly high pitched tone and pouted as she stomped the floor with her foot and held a hand to her waist. The sunset lit the leftover dust behind her, but also gave the girl a golden-colored outline. Tails opened his mouth slightly as he stared at her dumbfounded, until Amy turned sideways slightly and the sun shone on her face. Tears were noticeably forming in her eyes. Snapping out of his trance, the fox went to comfort the girl, and walk with her back home as he tried his best to provide the girl some consolation. After that day, nothing really was the same. Tails would never want to see any of his friends being sad, but he hated how Amy was unwell. The girl cried harder as they reached his workshop, for they lived real close to each other, and she did not want to be alone. He sat next to her in the bench, patting her back as he tried to get her to calm down. A box of tissues was provided, and she dried her tears and wiped her nose with them.

It could be true that sometimes her persistency was a little annoying, causing the guy to vanish soundspeed, but seeing her like this crushed him on the inside. Amy was no bad person: what harm would possibly come from sitting down with her and talking things over? While he loved his friend, this way of running away from anything that made him slightly uncomfortable was one thing he did not like about him. He did get close to something like a talk once, but ended up running away at the slight suspicion he would be tackled, and things had been this way ever since. He thought the situation through many times that day: maybe he had feelings for her but was just shy? Talking to him about it proved useless as he would just brush off the conversation and give no real clue whether he liked her or not. What could he do to make the girl happy again? When he offered to give her some help, seeing as he was his best friend the girl raised her head and stared at him as she explained his plan. When he finished, he stared at her waiting for an answer. It came in form of one of her brightests smiles as she cheered up and gave him one of her signature bear-strength hugs. Amy was happy, and so was Tails.

Their plans did nothing like make the guy suddenly fall for her and confess his love, but they did succeed on making him more comfortable around her. He was not running away anymore, and that alone counted as a great success for the girl. Since the fox was busy with some new project, he could not leave to hang out with them, but Amy faithfully reported to him every day about her progresses. His workshop had also become the place the girl would let out her emotions, hugging him tightly as she demonstrated on him what she wanted to do to Sonic. Some other times, the girl just hugged him out of pure gratitude for what he was doing. It did not take long until the two-tailed fox was used to his pink girl's company every day, usually at the same time. Whenever she would take longer to come, he could not help but start getting impatient, but then greatly relieved when she finally showed up with a big, warm smile, grinning all the time as she went on describing how did things go. Her smiles, laughter and hugging. It was such a joy to have her around, and soon he found himself looking forward to her visits.

And here the girl was again, telling him in detail how her day had been, especially how she, Sonic, Rouge and Knuckles, went to the new water-themed park they had just opened in the city. The bat would lead the echidna to go separate ways from them, and wink to Amy as she whispered her good luck. The pink hedgehog would smile and wish the bat-girl good luck as well, since Rouge was after someone she found more precious than jewelry. As for Amy, she walked with Sonic side by side, though he kept a small distance, being even this close already meant a lot. She would go on and on, and Tails would nod and reply to her accordingly.

Tails mind started to wander, only half listening to what she was saying. He stared at her face, smiling softly as he recalled that day in the sunset, the day which marked the start of their plans and Amy's visits to his workshop. The golden outlining of the sunset around the girl made her look so pretty, and powerful as well. His heart sank a bit as she began crying, but even in tears the girl remained pretty. Even now as he looked to her, he could not help but notice her pink hair. Those quills looked so soft! And being a fox, his sense of smell guaranteed that she had used a peach, fruity shampoo. As for her face, Amy was not one of using much make up, save for some discrete lip gloss which made hers just a little redder and shinier. Her dress was different from the usual. Instead of red, she had put on a special peach dress, with a similarly colored headband, both of them having white details on the borders. Her shoes matched the color of the dress, and were geared towards comfort, without much heels. Ah... Sonic was so lucky to have someone like her after him.

Those days they spent together made it more and more clear how loving and cute the girl was. She practically would become a new person whenever she was with him, always smiling, laughing and making him smile and laugh.

Did he not notice how pretty was her smile?

Nobody was perfect as far as he was concerned, so everyone has defects. Not everyone is willing to change though, something Amy would do in a heartbeat if it was necessary. She was always caring, loving and considerate of him and everyone, despite this small situation with Sonic. She hated lies and would step into any danger if it meant saving her friends. She was not just pretty because of her looks, but she was beautiful because of her personality.

Why then would Sonic reject her so often?

His chest hurt as he imagined her being lovely with him just to be rejected. He lowered his gaze a bit: was Amy really happy with all this they were doing? According to her there had been some progress, but Sonic still seemed distant and her feelings one-sided. Was she really satisfied with just this?

He certainly was not. Maybe Sonic was not running away from her anymore, but his inability to notice the girl when she would do so much for him bothered him to no end.

"Right, Tails?"

Tails looked up to see Amy smiling, her head slightly tilted sideways. Her carefree expression made his heart beat faster; he mustered the courage and sat up from his chair and walked to Amy.

"Tails?" Amy paused as she noticed the fox had gone quiet. She opened her eyes again when she felt a warm hand cupping her cheek and two fingers over her lips.

"You are talking about Sonic too much. From now own, all I wanna hear about is you" Tails leaned in and closed the gap between his and her lips, pressing them passionately while holding her face.
