Thank you so much for all of the feedback and the reviews as I am learning a lot from this. As I indicated I do not have a beta reader or editor. I have been doing my own editing which is not easy. I am trying to improve on grammar, paragraphs, and dialog flow.

This is the 5th story for Battle for Voltron and this was very hard to do again. Voltron Team is now going help with the liberation of Arelle. Callon is back and is engaging with his Lion Riders. Someone goes to confront King Zarkon. Major character death, somebody else dies (spoilers). In the Dynamite Comics Zarkon was once human and I was surprised about that. However, my Zarkon is Drule and Drule only. That would have been interesting to see him as a human in the Legendary Defender show.

I don't own Voltron.

The Death of a King

Chapter 1

Planet Arelle

The Voltron Force is headed to Planet Arelle with Chief Callon. Callon tells the Voltron Force they are going to meet with the sorcerer Rif. Rif was the Lion Temples keeper for our hundred years. Voltron lands on the desert part of Arelle and the team gets out of their lion ships to meet with the sorcerer.

"Good to see you Callon and the Voltron Team," Rif says. "We have been waiting for this day." "Good to be home," Callon adds. "The Voltron force is here to help us free the Lion Temple from the witch and we have a plan to free everyone," Callon tells him.

"Yes, I have some spells that can counter Hagar's magic. She has gone back to Doom with Lotor so she is not here right now draining the temple's energy." Rif tells them. "Great let's get going to the temple before Hagar gets back here," Keith they get to the temple, Rif tells the team he is going to put a counter spell on the Lion Temple. The spell with detract Hagar's magic and she will not be able to drain the temple any longer after Rif does his counter spell. The Drules have been using the captured Lion Riders as slaves and using them in the mines. Yuark is foreseeing the operation on the planet and helping Hagar as well.

Rif tells the Voltron Force to surround the Lion Temple with the individual lions if they should get attacked by the Drule army and it will create a defense wall if anyone tries to stop him. The team gets back into the lion's ships and surrounds the temple as Rif starts his spell. The spell stabilizes the Lion Temple and they see the Lion Spirits come out.

A Drule guard off in the distances notices what's happening at the temple and then call's Yurak. When the transmission comes through Yurak gets the incoming call from the Drule guard and the guard tells him about what is happening at the temple. Yurak tells him, "We will go to check out to see what is happening there." Yurak takes a group of fighters to go down to investigate the Lion Temple.

There is a noise coming from the distance. Pidge tells the team, "He has incoming on his scope." Keith sees the fighters coming in and he orders the team to take them out. The lion ships take to the air and they attack Yurak fighters. Yurak has also instructed some of the ground troops to help as a backup. Callon meets up with some of his Lion Riders and they engage the ground troops.

The Red Lion rips through the fighters like nothing with its ion knife. Blue Lion brings down about ten more fighters with its water cannon. Black Lion destroys the rest of them with his Lasor mounted gun as an uppercut. Yurak is getting angry at this point and to make matters worse Lotor calls him to see how things are going. Yurak tells him the lion ships are here defending the temple. Hagar tells Yurak "That the Voltron Force is going to get a surprise from her new secret weapon." Yurak looks surprised and does not know what she means.

Hagar has seen everything through her crystal ball and she tells Lotor she will handle this. She has to test her evil Voltron weapon on them. She then shows Lotor her new weapon and he asks her, "Will this work?" She answers, "I have been working on this for months it has everything Voltron has including weapons so our Voltron will win." Her evil Voltron is an exact duplicate of the good Voltron.

Hagar tells Yurak that she is going to return to Arelle with her secret weapon. Lotor will not be going with her as he has other things he is involved with right now but will be monitoring the battle. She leaves and meets up with Queen Merla who will be piloting the evil Voltron. Queen Merla gets in the cockpit of the evil Voltron along with Hagar and they leave for Arelle. The journey is not long for them because Hagar has created a space warp and they are there within minutes. As they approach Arelle Hagar sees Rif at the temple.

"I will confront him myself," she tells Merla. Queen Merla drops her off near the temple entrance.

Queen Merla lands her evil Voltron not far away from there. The Voltron Force sees the evil Voltron. "It's an evil duplicate of Voltron," Pidge says surprised. "It's like looking in the mirror," Allura says. Keith tells the team to engage now. Queen Merla has her Voltron form the ax sword weapon. Keith then tells the Voltron Force to form Voltron and they go through the sequence to form the robot.

He then orders Voltron to use a spinning laser blade and throws it at Queen Merla's Voltron and she gets hit. The Queen feels the shock throughout her body. Queen Merla instructs her Voltron to fire rockets on the Voltron Force. Pidge sees the rockets coming at him but Voltron raises it green lion arm and Pidge gets the full blast of them. Hunk calls down to him to ask, "Are you ok?" Pidge answers, "It felt like an earthquake."

The witch lands near the temple and she greets Rif. She says to him, "You are no match for my power." "He answers, "We will see an old witch." Hagar uses her lighting on him but he deflects it. She uses more lighting but he keeps reflecting if off. They keep going back and forth for a while. Rif calls on the ghost lions from the temple for help. Then they come out of the temple and encircle Hagar. She gets disoriented as they attack her.

The Voltron Force moves again and Queen Merla's Voltron misses with the ax sword. She hits into the temple and loses her ax. After she rebounds Queen Merla's Voltron uses her mount canon to strike at Voltron Force. She hits Hunks lion and he gets jolted. Pidge asks him, "Are you ok Hunk?" Hunk responds, "Yes I am little buddy but we got to get this evil Voltron out of here and away from the temple." She shoots another round of rockets at Voltron Force but they deflect it and it misses them again. Queen Merla sees she is not getting anywhere with this so Hagar tells her to use the Lighting Rod weapon on the Voltron Force. The evil Voltron forms the Rod and uses it to drain the power out of Voltron Force. The Lion Voltron starts to shut down from being drained of energy from Queen Merla's evil Voltron.

Keith tells him, team, to brace for impact as Voltron falls to the ground. Queen Merla thinks she has outdone them. Rif sees what is happening to Voltron Force and he calls up to the Lion Temple. Lighting comes out of the temple and repowers the Lion Voltron. Now Voltron is back up and running. Merla is shocked to see this. Rif then summons lighting to come out of the Lion Temple and it hits Queen Merla's Voltron. Her Voltron starts to lose power from the draining spell Rif has been put on her.

Hagar sees she is losing and she tells Merla to fall back. Merla does not have much power after the hit so she retreats. She goes and picks up Hagar and Yurak too. Queen Merla asks Hagar, "If they are going to try to reclaim the planet back?" Hagar tells her, "She has what she needs to defeat Voltron." They head back to Doom.

Voltron Force meets with Callon and Rif at the temple after the battle. Callon sees more Lion Riders coming forward and they were enslaved by Zarkon but are free now. Keith and Voltron get out of the lions to meet with them. Callon thanks Keith and his team and is glad that the temple is now free from Hagar. She is no match for Rif and the Lion Temples power. Callon says, "We could not have done this without you Keith and the Team and we have been waiting for the day for liberation." "This calls for a celebration," Allura says. 'Yes, we need that." Keith answers. They all gather around to celebrate the victory.

On Doom

King Zarkon sees another defeat and he shacks his head. All of a sudden a cloaked figure comes in and says, "Hello Zarkon." Zarkon looks from his thrown and he asks, "How did you get in here?" "How did you get past my guards and how is that possible?" The Cloaked figure responds, "You are never going to defeat Voltron. I don't know how many times they have to tell you." The Cloaked figure points a Laser at the King. Zarkon responds, "Do you think you would have me at your mercy?" "Think again." The cloaked figure responds, "I know exactly what you are capable of and what kind of a King you are."

Zarkon asks "Do you?" "Well, then you should know you won't get out of my castle alive. I am surprised it took this long for you to come here." The cloaked figure answers, "Well the person that would have talked me out of this is gone. She would have not let me do this if she were alive today."

Zarkon looks at the cloaked figure and asks, "So it was someone you were close too?" Family, Sister, Brother, or Lover, I wonder who?" The Cloaked figure continues to point his Laser gun directly at King Zarkon and says, "You need to pay for what you took from me." The King tells him, "It's not going to matter if you shoot me." The cloaked figure replies, "How the hell do you know?"

King Zarkon says to him, "The greatest torment is the truth. It always is. You have no idea of what Planet Arus has done in the past in regards to the construction of Voltron. People gave their lives for the Defender. I have seen it firsthand. Arus lies and the great King Alfor is not as great as they say he is. "The cloaked figure then answers, "I don't believe you. "

Zarkon tells him, "Yes you probably would not, but it is all true. I was at the beginning of the creation of Voltron with Alfor along with Alec Sigis. We found the meteor that crashed on Arus and from it, we were able to build the lions ship. Alfor was the engineer that made the Defender. Alec Sigis was the sorcerer that gave him life. I told Alfor he should not create Voltron and I was against him. "

The Cloak figure states, "All lies."

"No." I am telling the truth. "The King answers and goes on. "The sorcerer Sigis put a spell on Voltron after Alfor constructed him. I did help him too. We were good friends but I did not feel the Lion Ships would live up to what he expected of them. He made me the Black Lion Paladin in the beginning"

"In the year 2040 Alec Sigis took Voltron to Earth and there he met with President of the United States. He was welcome on Earth. The reason why Alfor wanted Sigis to go to Earth was that he wanted to show the earth what Arus created and to show the Universe what we had. When Sigis did this Earth also participated in helping and they came up with some more technology that they infused in Voltron. After Alec Sigis left Earth with the Lion Voltron, it was not long after that the Drules, which was Throk's father attacked Earth. Then Earth decided they needed another Voltron so they used the Lion Voltron blueprint to create the Vehicle Voltron 50 years later."

Zarkon goes onto explain: "Now there were 5 original Paladins Alfor, Sigis, (Chief Callon's Descendent, of the Lion Riders) Chief Zallon and Agrus from the Sphere planet. The Sphere planet also helped in the creation of Lion Voltron. What a team we made! We fought against Throk's father who was the King of Doom at that time and his name was King Tork. We won and I became the new leader of the Drule Empire but there was a cost which was Alfor's friendship."

"I wanted to use Voltron to free the rest of my people from King Tork's evil rule but Alfor would not hear of it and he felt we would attack Tork and he did not want it this. Voltron was used for Defending not attack."

"Not long after, Hagar came to me with help and I took her in. She showed me what she could do with Robeast's and what her power entailed. King Alfor was upset about this and forbid it. I told him my people need help and I will do what needs to be done. Alfor took Voltron away and took over the Black Lion. I was replaced with another paladin from Arelle."

"After I became King of Doom, Alfor declared war against us so he attacked us with Voltron and I defended my planet and used Hagar to help. Alfor killed thousands of Drules that day. We had battled for many years, too many for me to remember. I met Lotor's mother who was a slave from Arus and had an affair with her. Not long after she gave birth to Lotor. King Alfor called it an abomination and he insulted me. Lotor's mother died later but I will not go into detail about that. In the final battle on Arus, I killed King Alfor and his wife. He paid for his crimes again my people. "

"Later I killed Throk's father, who was former King of Doom when I had him dethroned. When Throk was young he and the other Drules left this part of the Galaxy and went to the Denbuian Galaxy. Throk overlooked what I did in killing his father but he never forgot it. That is why the Drule Empire is split and I rule Doom today.

"After I had Hagar separate Voltron the Paladins were killed. Hagar put a spell on Voltron that would prevent Lions from coming out when she separated them. Voltron went racing back down to Arus and was not able to work for a while. Then the Voltron Force came years later and revived him. I blame Alfor for what he did to my people and how he treated me after years of service. I then put a spell on the Black Lion when Sigis died so that he would remain in Black Lion forever."

"The Spheres helped in the creation of the Robot and there is more to this with them but I will not go on. So you now know what you need to know about Voltron creation." The cloaked figure then answers, "Do you think I feel sorry for you after what you have revealed to me?" "That is about your empire or your past friendships. "You need to pay for what you have done. Start taking responsibility for everything. I think you are just blaming King Alfor for everything."

King Zarkon says, "I have seen the lies of Arus."The cloaked figure says, "I don't believe you."

The King goes on, "The Drule Empire has been at war with Arus before you and I ever existed. They have waged war against each other for years and my people were enslaved by Throk's father even though they were Drule's. If I did not kill him Throk would be on this seat today." Zarkon is now angry and yells, "Alfor still responsible for all the deaths of my people. He would not let me use Voltron to free them. The Galaxy still holds him as a King of honor."

The cloaked figure responds. "It's all crap Zarkon and you know it and you just could not think of a better one. What happened to your people broke you. You killed a close friend of yours on the day of the final battle against King Alfor and you killed his wife too. You are a murder and despot and you must pay for your crimes now." The cloaked figure points his gun at the King and shoots him. Zarkon is hit and falls to the ground. The cloaked figure takes his hood off and it is Sven, the retired Blue Lion Pilot, he says, "None of us get away clean in the end."

Nine Months Later-After Zarkons murder

Plant Earth Galactic Assembly Chamber

Keith and the rest of the Voltron Force take a seat to listen to the speaker.

Lotor of Planet Doom steps up to the podium and starts his speech, "Achem, "Can I please have everyone's attention?" "Please, may I have your attention? "Many of you here might find this offensive and repulsive. Some of you might even be angered by my presents but I am here in truth and I understand your feelings. My father was a tyrant and a murder. I have come here though to apologize for this. My father King Zarkon was murdered a few months ago by an unknown assassin. During his time as King of Doom, I have gone along with his evil ways and not thinking of the deviation and sadness he has left behind. There is no excuse for what he has done over the decades. He has intimidated forcefully and has enslaved thousands and thousands of planets in the name of Doom. There were things I could have done to prevent a lot of things that he did. I have a lot of regrets. I do. I have been subjected to his ways all of my life. "

"Now I know some of you will not believe in what I am telling you today and I don't expect you too, but I want to extend a fund pledge from Doom calling it the Reconstruction Galaxy Program. This is to help planets that have been taken over by Doom and have suffered from my father's cruelty. I am allowing Earth's Inspector full access to Planet Doom. They can come and see for themselves the changes that are going on. I am open to new suggestions and opinions if need be. We will work with Galaxy Alliance to help those that are hurting. "

"Again I know you do not believe me but give me time and I will show you what I am capable of doing for everyone. We are starting a new path forward and I believe that working with the Galaxy Alliance will be beneficial for everyone. I am asking for the opportunity to demonstrate what we can offer for all worlds. Now I want to wrap this up and thank everyone again. The Voltron Force is waiting out in the Hallway together when they see Lotor leaving the assembly. "Well, that was quite a speech," Keith tells him. "How long did it take you to convince the Alliance with that great speech?" "Ah Commander, I was wondering if you and your team were listening?" Lotor asks. Then Keith answers with, "I love the part where you stated only taking daddy's orders. You had the nerve to tell the alliance that."

"Yes my father was a troubled King and I think he did things he regretted in the end." Lotor states. Keith then says, "Good luck with that because we can see right through you." Lotor answers, "Believe me I meant every word by spending the rest of my life making it up to these people for what my father did. There were things that were taken from you that can never be replaced. As I said I will try to make that up to you. If I can convince you of my true..."

Keith cuts him off, "Stop it stop it right there. Just shut your mouth and listen to what I have to say. I don't know what the hell it is you're up to but we will be watching you're every step. "Whatever it is you are plotting, planning, and manipulating?" We will be watching you and Voltron isn't going anywhere and neither are we."

Lotor gives him a straight look and then says, "I wouldn't expect anything less." "Well good day to you and Princess always a pleasure." Lotor walks away with his guards behind him.

Keith was about to say something else when Lance puts a hand on his shoulder and says. "Just leave it we will get him and find out what he is up too."

Space Explorers Central Command Living Quarters-Earth

Keith is pacing around in his sweats with no shoes, socks, and he is shirtless. Allura is cleaning her weapons on the table. Keith continues to pace relentlessly and then states, "Unbelievable, "Does he think we are not going to follow him and watch him?" "Does he think he can slip right into the assembly and wave credits in front of the Alliance and they will bend to him?" "How stupid does he think we are?"

"It's just all crap Allura." Keith looks at her. "What if it isn't?" Allura asks Keith. "What?" Keith asks with a dead look on his face. "Keith what if it isn't?" Allura asks him again looking directly at him. "You messing with me right?" he asks her. "You don't think people can change?" Allura questions him.

"Not him and not him in a million years," Keith answers her. "His father was a despot and a murder. If he did object to anything his father was doing he would have done something and not waited for an unknown assassin to kill him. Then he shows up at the Alliance with that great speech of his and expects everyone to believe him and show him sympathy. I don't trust one damn word out of his mouth and I don't know how you can too. He is up to something period," Keith answers angrily. Allura answers him, "It must be so nice to be right all the time Keith even when people can change."

Keith looks at her and then says, "Are we on the same page about this Allura?" "Are we?" "I can't believe we are even arguing over this. He fired a nuclear missile at Voltron and Lance got several hurt and it could have been worse." Keith raises his voice and looks back at Allura.

"Is it so hard to believe that someone like Lotor can change?" "He took a look at his father and did not approve of what he did and some of it made him sick to his stomach. " Allura answers Keith. He is in shock at this conversation-argument he is having with her and he just looks back at her in disbelief.
