"Don't you dare say lets split up. That is the worst idea and the most cliché thing when at a haunted house." said Maeve Fenton, the daughter of Danny Fenton and Sam Manson. To say the pastel goth was a little miffed at the current situation she currently found herself in was a bit of an understatement.
"Oh, come on Maeve. It's not that bad, if anything there isn't anything in there and we can all just go home after a short exploration. It'll be fun!" said one of her best friends Quinten Yates, who she has known since the first grade when he moved here.
"I'm with Maeve on this, maybe we should just, you know... not be here in the dead of night... in a haunted house? Where there could be a murderer?" said the other best friend Molly Mahoney, who Maeve had always known since the beginning of time it seemed.
you see, there was something that tied these three unlikely heroes together. they were all misfits, Maeve being the obvious outcast who never did conform to just one thing, and never tries to. Then there was Molly, who is painfully shy and was constantly picked on, although once she got comfortable with you, you would come to find out she was obviously the other voice of reason in the group, she made high marks in her classes just as Maeve did. Then there was Quinten, who loved sports and obviously shouldn't be hanging with these since he was considered a jock right? well, he gravitated to these two anyways and was often Molly's bodyguard. and here they all were at an abandoned castle.
"Ok fine, but since this is your idea Quinten, you go in first, so that way if the door is booby trapped you go first." she said.
"Ok fine by me!" he called as he did just that and walked in with out getting a scratch on him. "No booby traps." he said inside the house with a snicker, teenagers...
With that the other two came in. "Boy somebody really liked the Green Bay Packers." said Maeve noticing the green and gold decorum in the lobby flashing her flashlight around.
"Man, they even have a signed football from one of the players! but it's so covered in dust I can't make it out." said Quinten.
"Wonder who used to live here?" asked molly
"Whoever it was they were LOADED." said Maeve flashing her light farther down the hallway the light bouncing off some suites of armor. there was a loud crash behind her and molly and both wiped around only to see Quinten trying to put a suite of armor back together. both girls sighed and continued with exploring their areas.
"Say you guys want to explore the rest of the house?" asked Maeve.
"I thought you didn't want to be here Maeve?' Quinten teased her.
"Yah well now I'm curious about the rest of it." she said smugly
"I really don't think we should be in here." said molly. did I say she was the second voice of reason in this hormone driven group? I meant she is the only one.
"Ok, yah let's do it. where should we start?" asked Quinten.
"Let's start with the study. Assuming we can find it." said Maeve, "Lead the way oh fearless one."
Quinten stepped in front of the girls and began walking down the hallway for what seemed like days, stopping in each room and eventually find it, in which the trio scattered in three different directions. Maeve and Molly headed for the books Maeve quickly finding books on ghosts which she quickly grabbed and stuck in the crook of her arm. Molly on the other hand had found some poetry to read right there on the spot, Maeve just rolled her eyes.
Quinten cocked his head to the side as he saw a random football sculpture. he went to grab and pulled it, only instead of pulling it off the shelf like normal, the fireplace opened and revealed stairs leading down. "hey guys I found something." he said as the smell of possible mold and mildew from being shut up for such a long time, only lord knows how long its been since those doors had been opened. judging by the cobwebs in the stair well it had been quite a while.
"I'm not going down there, there are spider webs everywhere." said molly heading her face behind a shut book as she looked down the stairs.
"Oh, come on Molly put your arachnophobia aside and come on." said Maeve. "where's your sense of adventure?" as she began down the stairs just knocking aside the webs like they were nothing.
"Safe, at home in my bedroom with my unicorn pillow." molly replied keeping the book up for a face shield. Quinten followed after Molly.
"Wow, check this place out. looks like something from a science fiction novel or science fiction movie." said Maeve walking into the room with Molly and Quinten following close behind. "Hey Quinten can you look and see if this place has any power?" she asked.
"Uh yah, just give me a minute to find the breaker box." he said as he looked around the walls for said box.
"I REALLY don't think we should be here. We need to get out of here before something really bad happens." Molly said looking around at all the instruments.
"Would you hush molly? Nothings gonna happen ok?" said Maeve honestly getting annoyed by this point at Molly's constant worry.
"Found the breaker box!" said Quinten. "Just let me figure out what switch turns this rooms lights on." he added.
"Kay." said Maeve as Molly kept quiet. Maeve noticed something sort of big ring on its side in the middle of the room. "huh. wonder what this is." she said as she took a step inside of it.
"I think I have it!" said Quentin as he flipped the switch and instead of seeing just lights coming on, he heard a blood curdling scream, saw a great big flash and things of change, and his friend going flying across the room.
"MAEVE!" both cried as they ran to their unconscious friends' side. Though were quite surprised when instead of her signature light pink hair, it was now a mint green, and the colors on her clothes had been switched around, and her skin was ghostly pale.
"Oh my god is she dead? We are SO going to jail." said Molly already starting to freak out.
"Well there goes the ivy league schools I planed on going to after high school." said Quinten.
"Forget that her mom is going to kill us." said Molly as she began to think of what to do about the possible corps in the room while Quinten went to look for a pulse. "We need a shovel and we could bury her in the back yard of this place. I told you two we shouldn't be here! now look what happened!"
"Molly we don't need a shovel, she's just knocked out. She's still breathing." said Quinten which made molly sigh a sigh of relief. "Bring her upstairs. and ill drive the car to the front steps." he said.
"Why don't you bring her up the stairs and I'll drive the car around?" asked Molly as she was the smaller of the three and Quinten being the big jock of the bunch.
"Because I'm the only one that's sixteen and with a driver's license?" he said.
"Right. go ahead then, I'll just work myself to death dragging her up the stairs." she said as she grabbed both of Maeve's arms and started to literally drag the poor girl up the stairs as Quinten ran up to get the car.
"Let's just hope her parents aren't home at the moment. Hopefully, they are gone." said Quinten
Thankfully enough the parents weren't home, but there was still the issue of Maeve's current predicament.
"So how do you turn back?" asked molly.
"How should I know, dad just changes back at the blink of an eye." Maeve replied.
"Maybe this thing will wear off?" said Quinten sitting on Maeve's bed. Maeve sat next to him resting her head in her hands then she suddenly straightened.
"Wait a second. you remember when we were little, and we'd play some kind of made up game where I was a half-a and you two were supposed to be ghosts?" she asked them.
" Yah it was our own version of tag, at least that's what I thought it was." said molly.
"Why? you remember something we don't?" asked Quinten?
"Remember how I would have to have a cool down after I was the half?" she asked standing up.
"Yah?" the others asked in unison.
" That was because I was pretending to power down. maybe if I remember how to power down like I did in the game, maybe I can power down." she said.
"It's worth a shot. How did you do it?" asked Molly.
"By taking a minute to just settle down. letting myself calm down." she said. as she sat back down on the bed and took a deep breath and closed her eyes and began concentrating on her human form. slowly but surely her hair turned back to being a light pink hair, her skin tone became normal, and her clothes colors went back to their normal patterns.
"So? how do you feel now?" asked Quinten after a bit.
Maeve opened her now purple eyes and examined herself and was quite pleased to see she had indeed turned back to her normal form. she let out a sigh of relief and laid back on the bed. "Hey, you guys promise me something?" she asked.
"Sure! What is it?" asked molly.
"promise you won't tell my parents about this, all I need is for them to suffocate me." she said with a bit of a laugh. Her father maybe a great hero in his own right but sometimes he could honestly be a little over protective, when he was interested in her outside of ghost hunting that is, hmmm, guess the apple didn't fall far from the tree there did it? and her mother could honestly take more interest in her as well, but she was too busy helping with Danny and tucker half the time, anytime she did take interest though it was over bearing mother things this included time limits on the internet, grounding over small insignificant things that really didn't matter to a hill of beans, such as when she skipped school to go to a scary movie one time, even though it was on the last day of school.
"We promise." Whey both said at the same time.
"Wo, what are you gonna do now that you're a half-a?" asked Molly
The camera went back to the portal in the creepy old house as Maeve's voice came over the scene. "Honestly, I don't know. But I'm sure something will come up." she said as the camera slowly closed in on the portal. It seemed like it took forever but after a few seconds of silence a ghostly hand shot out from the portal, and that is where this story leaves off.
