Despite her initial nervousness, Arizona was enjoying her first day back at work. She'd had a initial meeting with Dr Bailey, her boss, and then immediately completed rounds of her long term patients that were sadly still inpatients in the paediatric ward. She was relieved to find that on the whole, there had been no deterioration in their conditions, and the excited smiles on their faces when they saw their favourite doctor made her whole day feel worthwhile.

She'd even seen Carina whilst making her way through the hospital, which to be honest was one of the things that she was most worried about, but they'd just nodded at each other politely and carried on with their day.

Before she knew it, it was lunchtime and she managed to grab Christina and drag her to the cafeteria.

Surveying the range of salads and sandwiches, she pulled a face "Can't say I've missed these gastro delights"

"Quit your moaning Robbins. Who cares if it tastes like crap?" Christina shrugged, picking up the first sandwich that she saw "Just needs to give me enough energy to get through my next surgery"

"Seriously though" Arizona picked up a salad and winced, putting it back down again "food should be enjoyable"

"Wrong. Tequila is enjoyable. Food is just…well, food"

"Ever say that to your mom?"

Christina pulled a face "Are you kidding? I'd rather not be disinherited thanks"

Arizona laughed, finally settling for a rather limp looking Caesar salad. They both paid for their lunch and carried it over to an empty table.

"So" Christina started after swallowing a large bite of her sandwich "you went on a date the other night?"

"I did" the blonde smiled.

"And not with Carina, right?"

"Right"

"Cool" Christina turned her attention back to finishing her sandwich as quickly as possible.

"Is that it?"

"Sorry, did you want me to ask you more questions? I can pretend that I want details if you'd like?"

Arizona laughed. This was why she loved Christina. There was no messing around with her. And she particularly loved the fact that she generally had no interest in hospital gossip. Unless she'd had a couple of tequilas of course.

"Just…" the blonde couldn't keep the grin off of her face "I'm really happy"

Christina raised her eyebrows "Ok, so I know you're usually all perky and shit, but even this is too much for you. You only went on the date a couple of days ago"

"The first one, yes"

"So there have been more"

"Yeah…three, I guess"

"You slut!" Christina laughed "That totally means you bedded her on the first date and she just never left"

"No" the blonde shook her head "it's not quite like that"

"But you have banged, right?"

"Christina!"

"Oh I'm sorry, you have made love" Christina rolled her eyes.

"Why can't you just call it sex?"

"My way is more fun"

"Whatever" Arizona shook her head, laughing "yes, for your information, we have. And…we've made it official"

The last part of the blonde's statement caused Christina to put down the last bite of her sandwich and stare at her friend "I'm sorry, what?"

"I have a girlfriend"

"Ok, now I know you're pulling my leg"

"I'm serious, Yang"

"Arizona Robbins doesn't do girlfriends. Especially not 'I've known you for three days' girlfriends"

"Try fourteen years"

Realisation dawned on Christina "Hang on, is this that girl from back home? The one that made you such a commitment-phobe in the first place?"

"She didn't make me a commitment-phobe as such, but yes, it's her"

"Fucking hell"

"Yep" Arizona grinned.

"Ok, now I'm interested. Because the last time I checked you hadn't spoken in years, and you were only back in Newport a couple of days. What kind of sorceress are you?"

"I'm afraid the answer to that is going to have to wait til later, I have surgery" Arizona stood up, dumping the remnants of her salad in the bin.

"You're such a tease Robbins"

"So I've been told" the blonde winked.

"Eww I totally didn't need to hear that"

"You won't be able to unhear it now"

"Thanks for that. Good job I have a heart valve replacement this afternoon to stop me wanting to vomit"

"Do you realise how fucked up that is?"

Christina shrugged "That's who I am"

The blonde laughed "I'll catch you later"

"You can count on it"

With a smile on her face, Arizona headed up to the surgical floor and got ready to scrub in for her first surgery, a fairly routine appendectomy.

...

Meanwhile, Callie was sat on her bed in her hotel room, surrounded by pieces of paper with scribbled notes and lots of angry looking crossing out. She was desperately trying to construct some kind of logical idea that had enough depth to actually be worthy of a pitch to the New York Times. She knew that she had to write about something personal to herself, something that she actually cared about, otherwise the whole thing would just come across flat. But the trouble was, all that she seemed to care about right now was Arizona.

Once the blonde was back on her mind again (not that she ever seemed to be out of it for long), she picked up her phone to see if she'd had a reply to the message she'd sent earlier saying that she hoped her first day was going well.

Seeing that she did indeed have a reply, as well as a missed call from Mark, she ignored the call and went to read her message.

A: So far, so good! Just about to go into surgery hope you've had a good morning x

Callie laughed and shook her head. She could never get her head round the fact that surgery was something that warranted a smiley face. But obviously, it was what Arizona loved, so she just went along with it.

C: Go kick some surgical ass! And I'll see you later x

A: You can count on it. I'll call when I'm done here and we can do dinner? X

C: Can't wait beautiful x

Turning back to her notes, the brunette put two pages in front of her, side by side. One was filled with notes about growing up as a first generation American, born to immigrant parents. It was topical, and she figured it could be quite interesting, but it might be somewhat hindered by the fact that she wasn't currently speaking to her parents.

The other page contained some vague ideas about being a newcomer in New York. That one at least didn't need input from anyone she was wasn't talking to, but she supposed it wasn't all that unique, and given the broader audience for the New York Times that extended well beyond the city, she wondered whether it would really have the necessary appeal.

Sighing, she ran her hand through her hair. None of her ideas seemed to excite her. And if she wasn't feeling them, there was no way she was going to be earning that retainer fee.

Her thoughts drifted to Arizona again, wondering whether this evening would count as their fourth date. Should she even be counting dates now that they'd agreed that they were officially a couple? If only the New York Times would pay her to write an opinion piece on the blonde. She was sure that she could wax lyrical for a full novel length article about the way Arizona made her feel.

She noticed her phone flashing out of the corner of her eyes. It was Mark calling, again. She really didn't feel like dealing with him right now, and so ignored it and decided to go for a shower to clear her head.

Emerging from the shower a few minutes later, she felt refreshed at least, but unfortunately she hadn't been overcome by any stroke of genius while washing herself. She rubbed her hair with a towel, glancing back over at her phone as the screen lit up once again. As Mark's name flashed up on the screen again, she frowned, deciding that something must actually be wrong for him to call so many times without waiting for her to respond.

"Hey Mark, what's up?" she answered.

"Torres, thank fuck! Why don't you answer your goddamn phone?"

"Sorry, I was in the shower and…"

"No time. Where's Arizona? Please say she's with you?"

...

Arizona of course was not with Callie, and had in fact just successfully completed a routine appendectomy on a ten year old boy. She returned to the scrub room, removing her gloves and gown and scrubbing herself down, before heading back to the paediatric waiting room to update the parents. Once she'd delivered the good news that their son was on his way to the recovery room and they could see him shortly, she headed into one of the inpatient rooms. She smiled widely and chatted to a young girl named Ellie and her parents. Ellie had been diagnosed with a brain tumour a couple of months previously, and attempts to reduce it in size with radiotherapy had failed. Tomorrow was the big day when Arizona was intending to try and remove the tumour entirely. Understandably, the family were nervous, but having spent a considerable proportion of the last few months at the hospital, they'd come to know and like the blonde doctor, and trusted her with their daughters' care.

Once she'd left Ellie with strict instructions to eat a good dinner before going nil by mouth to prepare for the surgery, Arizona headed to the nurses station to review Ellie's chart, noting the most recent set of vitals that a nurse had recorded. She was distracted from her perusal of the most recent bloodwork by two police officers approaching the desk.

"Excuse me" one of them showed his badge to the staff nurse on duty "I'm looking for Dr Arizona Robbins. I understand from the main reception that she should be out of surgery by now"

"Umm yeah" the nurse frowned, glancing at Arizona "she…"

"Hi" Arizona interrupted, putting back the chart before walking over to the officer "I'm Dr Robbins. How can I help you?"

The second officer stepped forward so that he was shoulder to shoulder with his colleague "We need to ask you some questions, Dr Robbins. Could you come with us please?"

"Is this about a patient?"

"No" the first officer said sternly.

"Ok, in that case I'm kind of in the middle of my shift. I could give you my cell number…"

"I'm afraid we're going to have to insist that you come with us Dr Robbins. This can't wait"

...

"What?" Callie screwed up her face in confusion "No, she's at work, it's her first day back at the hospital"

"Shit" Mark cursed "Can you get hold of her?"

"I can try calling her but…Mark, what the hell is going on?"

"If you can't get through you have to get to the hospital" he insisted.

"Why? What's the urgency?"

"It's Eduardo. He's called the cops on her"

"What do you mean? What the hell for?"

"For abducting you"
