Time Period: A Flashback
Hazel's p.o.v
"What can I do to make him remember me? Augustus wonders while we prepare for Joseph's
arrival. My husband has cancer. He fears he will die before our son is born. "Ouch!" I shriek
clutching my stomach. "It must be time" excited, Augustus concludes. "The baby is not coming.
It was just a false contraction. I apologize for bursting your bubble" I inform him. "It's ok" he sighs
heavily. There is a small hint of sadness in his eyes. "You will witness Joseph's birth. You will live
long enough to see him grow up" I assure my husband.
Time Period: The Present Reality
"Cancer has already taken the life of one parent. Joseph was two when he lost his father. I fear I
may die soon. What can I do to make him remember me?" I sob in my mother's arms. "Joseph
knows you love him" my mother assures me.
