Remnant was still strange to Adora. A world whose people didn't just fight the monsters that roamed every piece of land around them, but also among themselves. A decade-long war that was fought almost 100 years ago and left the world without many people and from which no family escaped unscathed. The Great War. Adora almost hated to think that this could very well be the fate of Etheria at one point in time, when she was no longer alive to stop it.
She sighed, then shook her head. Etheria came out of the war against the Horde more unified than ever. She was sure their people could handle any sort of internal strife like this without another war. And with Entrapta working on new defensive tech reverse-engineered from the Horde Prime's ships, she had no doubt they could handle anything thrown their way. So, to sum that all up into one coherent, easy sentence, there was no reason to fight among each-other.
She sighed, placing the history book she was reading onto the table. She'd come to the classroom alone after hours to read in peace. She'd also found some sort of new TV program of a show about another alien planet in a war very similar, but so different technologically to the Great War itself. It included giant robots, people mind-merging via tech to those giant robots and the likes, though, so that was uh... Far-fetched?
Eh, she didn't know anymore.
Sighing, she stood up, sliding the history book under her arm. Walking out, she locked the classroom behind her, then marched down the halls as the orange light of a setting sun broke through the windows. After a few steps, though, she started hearing a voice. It was solemn, sad, beautiful. The voice, of a young woman's no less, sang. She sang beautifully...
It was coming from another classroom. She stepped up to said classroom and leaned her ear next to the door. The voice. It sounded like...
Adora propped the door open ever so slightly, peeking through the crack at the snow-white dress and jacket that bore a snowflake on its back, as well as the ponytail and tiara. Adora hummed "Weiss..." as she listened to the lyrics of the song only grow sadder while Weiss sang them. The young teacher felt her heart sing just as Weiss got to the last verse. And then, Adora well and nearly lost it.
"Mirror, what's this thing I see? Who is staring back at me? A stranger to my heart has filled my mind... Mirror, tell me? Who am I?"
And at that, Adora opened the door fully and started clapping. Weiss swiveled about, yelping in surprise and drawing her weapon, a rapier with a revolving cylinder that had six vials of different colors inside. The blonde raised her hands defensively, then said "Weiss, it's just me!"
The young Heiresse winced, then said "Sorry, miss Spinner, you... Surprised me."
"I'm sorry too, I know I probably shouldn't have eavesdropped, but... That singing was beautiful." Adora said, shutting the door behind her. Weiss blushed, averting her gaze and feeling for her elbow all of a sudden. The blonde approached her, then placed a hand on her shoulder, offering a comforting smile to the distraught girl. She offered Weiss a seat at one of the desks and she sat down next to her, before asking "Did you write that song?"
"I... Yes." Weiss nodded, embarrassed.
"No need to be shy, Weiss. It's a beautiful song, if a bit haunting." Adora offered awkwardly, then inquired "Are you okay, Weiss?" both happy and... Worried, it seemed.
Weiss jumped, surprised at the question, then said "I'm fine, miss Spinner." fairly convinced of herself "It's just a song, after all."
Adora could see right through that act, responding snarkly "Sure. I'll believe that." before leaning on the desk and looking at the white-haired girl. She offered a curt smile, then said "Weiss, listen. I know we may not know each-other well enough, but I do believe I'm the kind of teacher you can open up to. Songs are, if I recall correctly, a way for one to express their feelings. And if your feelings are the way your song is describing, then... It definitely sounds like you need someone to talk to."
Weiss frowned and sighed "Miss Spinner, it's... Not exactly that easy."
"Oh, I know. Feels talk is a pain. It was hard enough to get Catra to come out of her shell with our group of friends." Adora smirked "But when we did..." and then she winced, remembering Catra's crying fits, when she was being comforted by Glimmer and Bow, before chuckling and adding "Let's just say we all became just a bit more close. So, maybe you don't wanna talk to a teacher... How about your team?"
"It's why I'm here... I... Don't think they'd understand, miss Spinner." Weiss sighed, looking at the floor and fiddling with the belt around her waist.
Adora actually burst out laughing at that, then said "Do they need to?"
"Yes!" Weiss backed off, staring at Adora with a look of pure shock.
"Then, they will." Adora quipped, pulling at a piece of paper stuck under the desk. She winced, then pulled her hand away and wiped it on a tissue she had in her pocket, before continuing to talk to the now-confused Schnee "Weiss, look, I don't know your story. And your team does not know your whole story. You're supposed to be closer with your team than you are with anyone else here, teachers included."
"I see." Weiss sighed "Miss Spinner... I'm going to ask you something. Depending on how you answer this, I'll... Stop being so reticent about your extra-Remnant upbringing."
Adora shrugged "Sure... I mean, why not." Weren't they told that the kids believed them? Well, Weiss was... Weiss.
"Have you ever heard of the Schnee Dust Company?" Weiss inquired, calm and collected... And by the look of pure confusion on Adora's face, she had never even heard any of those terms. Weiss seemed surprised as she leaned in and asked "Nothing?" before getting a shake of the head from Adora, who was slowly putting two and two together regarding Weiss and the name 'Schnee Dust Company'.
"... Okay, first, why does a big company have your family name? I know what Companies are because I started reading books on economics... For my own sake," Adora asked as her mind slowly started to process things "And second... What's Dust?"
"Miss Spinner..."Weiss started You're joking, right? Dust is literally the resource we, as Huntsmen, use to fight the Grimm. It's the single most sought-after type of mineral in the world. I would've expected the Headmaster to hire someone who knows about this-oh my Gods you're actually aliens." and the realization finally struck like a hammer did a nail, right on her head. She blinked twice, then said "Any person who lives on Remnant would know what Dust is. It's also not just our defenses, our ammunition and even our most powerful weapon, but it powers every bit of our technology."
"Aha... And you're part of this company?" Adora asked, slowly starting to unravel more things.
"Yes! My father owns it! He inherited it from my grandfather, when he married into our family." Weiss seemed almost scornful of mentioning her father. And Adora started to piece it all together now. The white-haired girl sighed, then mumbled to herself "How could I be so blind? Names, lack of knowledge, the fact you two hauled more books than any teacher would in the halls... Of course, you'd be aliens trying to learn of our home."
"And how to best help it?" Adora added, a small smile on her face "... So, the song is about your dad?"
Weiss jumped again, then asked "That's what you got from my monologue, miss Spinner?! Seriously!? You've got Ruby's attention span!" before she noticed Adora was still smiling and was now stifling a chuckle. With a sigh, Weiss nodded "Yes... Let's just say my relationship is not the best with him and leave it at that."
"Good enough for me, Weiss." Adora nodded, then sighed "Sorry."
"It's..." Weiss sighed too, then answered "It's fine, miss Spinner, it's just... I still can't believe you're actually an alien... Ma'am seemed more likely..."
"Weiss." Adora glared at her "Give Catra a break. She's been asked by damn near everyone about her 'extra traits'... We read up on the Faunus."
"And? Anything similar to her in any book on their anatomy?" Weiss asked curiously. And as Adora shook her head, Weiss gasped... "So she's a different species altogether?" and she slowly started to realize the implications of their CQC teacher being an entirely different species to the Faunus. It was interesting, almost amazing research to look into, but... She figured it best not to try and go after any sort of research. Lest she be beaten down like Cardin.
... Then again, miss Clawdeen seemed okay out of class.
"We believe so." Adora shrugged, then added absentmindedly "She's cute as a button, though." as she stared at the ceiling.
"Eh...?" Weiss blushed "Not what I asked, but..."
"Oh, I know, Weiss. I was just playing with you." Adora smiled "Anyways... I'll repeat what I said to everyone else. If you feel the need to talk to someone, my door and Catra's are always open. Catra may seem mean in class, but she's a good girl. You can rely on us if you wanna talk to anyone but your team about your uh... Issues? And it'll stay between us unless we feel it's really important."
"... Thank you, miss Spinner." Weiss gave a faint smile "I'll keep that in mind. Oh, and if you and miss Clawdeen need someone to talk to about Dust, you can either come to me, or professor Peach."
"Professor Peach?" Adora raised a brow.
"Yes! Quite possibly one of the finest researchers in the science of Dust creation and utility, as well as biological research and information on Remnant's flora and fauna. I have to admit, even I, as Heiress to the SDC's major stake in worldwide Dust trade, lack the knowledge that professor Peach brings to the table. I would love to hire her at some point when I take over." She smiled. Wow, why did Weiss feel like a bit of a Teacher's Pet just now?
Adora smiled awkwardly "I'll keep that in mind for when I and Catra finally decide to visit the Staff Room... We really should get to that. Been here for long enough..." She tapped her chin, looking thoughtfully. "Hey, Weiss, do you think miss Peach would mind us attending one of her classes? We may need to learn how Dust works if we wanna survive out there."
"Oh, I don't think she'll mind! She'll enjoy the company, in fact." Weiss nodded, before standing up. She smiled to Adora, then said "I appreciate what you've been trying to do, miss Spinner. It has gotten me into a better mood, I'll admit."
"Yeah, well, no problem." Adora shrugged, then smirked smugly "It's just what we do."
"Heh." Weiss snorted "Of course."
"Oh, Weiss, a couple more things before we go our separate ways." The blonde added, crossing her arms "First, outside of classes, me and Catra go by our first names, so stop it with the 'miss' this and 'Ma'am' that. Makes me feel old..." She quipped, getting a chuckle out of both herself and Weiss, then continued "And second, try to talk to your teammates about this stuff too, like I said. I mean, they're your friends for the next for years. It wouldn't hurt for you to at least try and chat with them about it... Without arguing?"
Weiss winced slightly at that, breathing in through her teeth and asking "You heard about me and Ruby?"
"Catra mentioned it. And it has kinda been the talk of the class." Adora nodded "Seriously."
"I'll consider that as well." Weiss nodded back "But for now, I really must be going. They are waiting for me."
"Sure. Have a nice rest of your day, Weiss." Adora smiled, then stood up too. Weiss smiled back, before stepping out of the classroom. She was a good girl, but Adora saw the weight pressing down on the girl's shoulders. And when Weiss mentioned she was meant to be the heiress to the SDC, there was that extra tidbit. She'd need to go on the Remnant Internet(a thing she now knew about!) to read up on the SDC. And she'd hit up the library with Catra, too, after they went to the Staff Room
... Speaking of, where was Catra?
Catra walked through Beacon's courtyards, almost as if she was on patrol, but in fact, she was relaxing. She watched the Students do their thing outside the halls of the dorms. Benches were occupied, pairs and even teams of students talked and walked or enjoyed snacks they must've bought in Vale. Heh, she had to admit, it was nice to see people just relaxing in a normal setting after what she and Adora had been through.
Taking a side road, the woman went deeper into the Beacon gardens. The bright colors of flowers interspersed with the emerald green tint of the grass and the tall, growing trees reminded her of Perfuma and her kingdom. She wondered how they were doing back home, without them, then remembered it was the Princess Alliance she was thinking about. The 'Best Friends Squad'. She snorted, giggling to herself as a memory of Bow and Glimmer being... Bow and Glimmer... Came to her. That one time during an outpost search back on Etheria, when they nearly broke one of Entrapta's new toys.
Speaking of Entrapta, Ruby reminded her of the techie princess in her wits and know-how, since, apparently, she'd built her giant scythe all on her own. Nora, meanwhile, reminded Catra of Entrapta for a whole different reason:The hype train she was. Nora was fun and she packed a mean punch and a meaner hammer. She'd been reading up on her students and was actually quite proud of how teaching them was going.
She grew fond of several of the students, really. Even if she'd been here for, what, less than a couple months?
Speaking of, grunts and roars of strain and focus respectively came to Catra as she walked by a portion of the Garden, walled-off by tall, flower-laden hedges. She recognized the voice as Yang's and as she strolled in, she watched the blonde practicing guard-breaking kicks and what she assumed to be a form of fisticuffs. She wore large headphones on her ears as she practiced and bore her usual, bog-standard Xiao-Long smile. Proud, rough and tomboyish.
Catra leaned onto one of the hedge walls, watching with a grin as Yang continued to train, failing to notice her. Her form was bog-standard and very good, but she rushed into attacks against her imaginary foe. That led to a few situations where the girl left her guard open and would have been easy to knock down or outright kill. She remembered her and Adora's first little clash with the blonde in She-Ra form.
No time to reminisce about the frenemy days, now, she thought to herself, chuckling. She walked up to Yang, placed a hand on her shoulder and tilted her head to the left, dodging an elbow thrown her way by the new blonde of the gang. She smirked, watching Yang's face morph into shock and fear. She staggered back and started apologizing rapidly to Catra, who, in turn, gave a thumbs up and pointed at her ears.
Yang took a moment, before realizing "Aw, shucks, right!" and taking off her headphones "Sorry, really sorry, ma'am."
"Okay, first, no problem, second, it's Catra out of class... God, I'm gonna have to say this to everyone, won't I?" She sighed, then smirked "And third, quit making a fuss out of it, Xiao-Long. You got good form."
"Oh..." Yang paused, then smiled and felt for the back of her neck, smiling "Thanks, teach!"
"No problem." Catra gave a nod "However, you're leaving openings when you're throwing punches and you're just a tad too brash. One good dodge and a counter and the enemy could knock you flat on your ass."
"Oh." Yang paused "... Right."
"I'll give you an example. Toss a punch my way." She smirked, crossing her arms. Yang actually looked scared for a moment as her DI teacher just asked her to throw a punch right for her. Catra, meanwhile, seemed calm as she spoke "C'mon, Firecracker, it's fine. I've taken worse from Adora when we were sparring... At least I think I did." She chuckled "So don't worry. I'll be fine."
"I... Don't really think it's a good idea, teach." The girl responded, "I'm not really known for pulling punches."
Catra blinked, while Yang let out a giggle that turned into an awkward laugh. Catra asked "Was that a pun, Yang?"
"... Y-Yes?" The blonde wondered if she somehow messed up now. Not a good idea to joke with a teacher who literally decked the school bully on the first day... Right?
"Well, Yang, I must admit." The kitten smirked "I didn't take you for the type. Now, c'mon... Don't leave me..." And her smirk grew into a genuine grin as she took a combat stance "Yangin'."
And at that, Yang's eyes lit up like stars, joy in her heart. She took her stance, one fist forward, one back, one foot straight and perpendicular to the other, legs split. She then surged forward, cocking back her fist and throwing a haymaker. Catra's reflexes kicked in as the girl dodged to the left, grabbed Yang by the wrist, pulled her in and sent a really light knee into the girl's stomach. It wasn't hard enough to be painful, but just enough for Yang to get the point.
Yang was taken aback by the counter, while Catra, arms crossed to her chest, asked "You get the point, Yang?"
"Oh... Yeah..." She nodded quickly "Thanks."
Catra nodded, then said "I can provide lessons to you and your team out of the class... I know it's not generally good for teachers to show preferential treatment, but hey... I don't hafta follow Oz's rules." and she shrugged, a grin on her face as she saw Yang starting to consider it. She added "I can help teach your sister how to actually fight. She can't fight hand-to-hand worth shit."
"I tried to train her." Yang answered to that, grinning back "Just won't listen. 'Oh, Yang, but I have Crescent Rose!', 'Yang, I'm never gonna fight hand-to-hand when I got range!', 'Yang, I'll be fine! It's not like I'm gonna fight a Grimm with my bare hands!'" The blonde imitated her sister, before adding "I love her, but... She's as stubborn as dad, really. She needs to learn."
Catra's smile only grew as she spoke "So... We have a deal?"
"I'll talk to the others and I'll let ya know next lesson. That okay?" Yang asked
"Fine by me, blondie. Now, c'mon... Gotta start our first lesson before we can even think of the next. Oh, by the way..."
"Yeah?" Yang raised a brow. Catra grinned.
"You hesitated when telling your story... Didn't tell us who you were looking for." She said "Let's make a bet:In a week or so, we have a fight. You win, I'll leave ya alone with this. I win... You tell me who you were looking for."
Yang hesitated for a moment "Are you sure?" And Catra extended her hand, determined. Yang sighed, then said "Alright... I won't go easy." and she shook her hand.
Adora walked on down the halls, searching for her catty companion. But instead of finding Catra being herself, another voice echoed from her left. She stopped next to a door, which had a sign that read 'Forge', before she swiveled around toward it. It was halfway-open, so she poked her head inside, to see Ruby herself at one of the many workbenches, a dozen tools surrounding her and her weapon off to the side, in its carry form, folded up.
The blonde had read up on the intricacies of Remnant tech, including form-shifting weapons. Ruby's weapon, Crescent Rose, was the first example that she'd actually seen. A sniper-scythe with high-caliber rounds. And they thought Entrapta was creative with her designs...
Oh, lord, Entrapta and Ruby cooperating on weapons designs. That was an image Adora wanted to see. She felt it'd be fun, since both were bubbly girls with major skill regarding armaments and tech, so she was sure they'd get along. Right now, though, she was pretty sure Ruby was busy and, going by the tools, she had been working for some time. Adora slowly entered the room, trying to make as little noise as possible while she approached the little Rose.
She stopped just behind Ruby and peeked over her shoulder, to see her working on what looked like a combination between a tube and a rotating cylinder. Huh. She smiled, then leaned in beside Ruby and looked right at the girl, noticing her eyes were, indeed, silver. And so focused on her work, she had tunnel vision. The blonde's smile grew as she watched little Ruby Rose working on filing down something at the top and far front of the strange tube, which was a barrel, Adora realized.
She rolled her eyes, then poked Ruby in the cheek. The little red cape-wearer jumped with a cry of surprise, before tumbling backward and off her little stool. Adora gasped, then went to help Ruby up, rapidly apologizing to the little red girl as she helped her to her feet..
"Hey, miss Spinner..." Ruby groaned and felt the back of her head for bumps. She was okay for now, so she looked to Adora and asked "What's up?"
"I was actually looking for Catra when I passed by. Heard you mumbling to yourself." Adora explained, patting the dust off of Ruby's cape. She then turned toward the work desk and saw that the strange item had a wooden grip attached to it. She looked to it, confused, then she looked to a blushing, surprised Ruby. Ruby immediately dashed up, leaving a trail of petals behind her as she stood in front of the desk, smiling fearfully. A bead of sweat fell down from her chin.
"I see! Well, miss Spinner, she's not here!" Ruby started "There's definitely nothing important here!' and she chuckled, uncomfortable.
Adora raised a brow, then asked "Ruby. You do realize I saw you working on... Whatever that is. You can talk to me about it."
"Actually..." Ruby looked right at Adora "It's... Kind of a surprise."
"Oh?" Adora smirked "Hoping it's not a prank or something."
"No, no! That's Yang's thing." Ruby protested, then said "It's a surprise for you and ma'am, miss."
Adora smiled "Aww. Thanks, Ruby. Also... What did we say?"
"To call you by your names when we're out of class?" Ruby asked, a raised brow. Adora gave a nod and Ruby once again said "Right, sorry. It's just, you're teachers and... I didn't even call my uncle 'Uncle Qrow' at Signal. I called him mister Branwen." before lowering the arms she'd been holding up for so long, to use her cape as a shield. She looked to Adora, then continued "Can we keep it a surprise, please? At least from Catra?'
"Oh, Catra won't find out anything." Adora shrugged "You can tell me, though."
Ruby sighed again, bowing her head. She gave up, then stepped aside and picked up the unfinished item and started "I was... Making this for you. Blake told us how much your powers meant to you after your talk with Catra and I figured... If your powers are how you fight and they aren't working right now, I could make you something to fight with until you get them back..."
Adora blinked, then blushed and smiled "Aww my god. You have to be the most thoughtful... Scythe wielder... Out there" She winced for a sec, before stepping up to and patting Ruby on the head. She took a knee, then beamed at the little red girl and added "I appreciate it, Ruby. I really do..." then she paused and realized, chuckling "Wait, is this why you asked me and Catra those questions?"
"Yep..." Ruby admitted, averting her gaze awkwardly.
"Okay... So you made me... What's this?" Adora seemed confused
"A revolver firing 500 Magnum." Ruby smirked, spinning the cylinder... Before it tilted off to the side. She chuckled, embarrassed, then said "I didn't properly tighten the screw holding the cylinder in place yet... But it moves in a sideways position because it allows you to reload it. It's basically point and shoot, with the bullet doing the rest of the work."
"Huh... Different type of ammunition to Crescent Rose?" Adora asked
"Yup, a somewhat smaller caliber... But the gun itself is missing a few things... A personal touch and a name being two of them." She smiled, then started counting out "And a hammer, firing pin and spring to bring the hammer back into firing position after the shot. Cylinder holds 6 rounds too and I can't make it hold more because it's a revolver... Anyways." She shook off the explanation of the weapon, then said "Want to help me?"
"Name the revolver?" Adora smiled "Sure... Just give me some time to think about the name."
"I'll bring it to you and we can name it then. It's not finished... Any sort of details you want on the grips?" Ruby asked on, checking the pin that was to hold the cylinder into place. She tightened it, then slid the revolver's cylinder back in. It locked into place with a satisfying click, while Adora thought about it. Ruby added "I'm making it with plastic grips, though, so... I mean, you could send it to an engraver after it's done so they can do the detailing, plus maybe new grips."
The blonde chuckled.
"What?" Ruby asked "You don't like it?" and she seemed almost saddened.
Adora still smiled on, though, as she answered "I love it. You've really thought this through." and ruffled Ruby's hair.
And that got Ruby to finally smile too "I'm happy to hear... I've also been working on something for Catra."
"Well then, let's see what my catty cat gets." Adora smirked. Ruby pulled out a set of blueprints, before unfurling them to reveal a fairly-detailed design. Adora whistled, looking over the details, then said "God, Ruby, you and Entrapta would be good friends." in a murmur. Hell, Bow himself would be impressed about this... "How'd you even come up with this?"
"Well, claws, upper body strength... Eh." Ruby shrugged, smiling still. "Do you think she'll like it?"
"Oh, she'll love it. I can tell you that much." Adora answered promptly. She then realized "I do still have to go find her and talk... You gonna be alright, Ruby?"
"I'll be just fine, Adora." Ruby affirmed, smiling "I'll bring your gear to you when it's done... Can't promise it'll go fast for Catra's thing, though."
"Well, take all the time you need and don't overwork yourself. And Ruby?"
"Yeah?" Ruby quirked a brow up.
"Thanks a lot. It's nice to see smart kids like you at work. Tell us if you ever need anything." She gave another warm smile to Ruby, before stepping out of the workshop and closing the door. Back to walking, Adora went, down the halls of Beacon and hunted for her kitten. She had to be somewhere, right? She couldn't have gotten very far. She was probably with someone known to them.
Catra stretched her arms and neck, trying to ease the tension in her body now that her training with Yang had finished. Footsteps came from the right and the two girls turned toward the way into the little hedge room, to see Blake coming in. The kitten of the teacher duo gave a quick salute to Blake, while looking to a surprised Yang. She smirked, then stood up and said "I'll leave you two alone."
She stepped off, giving a wink and a nod to Blake before disappearing behind the hedges. The blonde and the girl in black looked on, confused. Meanwhile, the cat aired herself out, since she'd gotten somewhat sweaty in the training bid. She fanned herself with the collar of her jacket, walking toward the dorms. She needed a shower and to rest after that bout of training. And just in time, too, seemingly, since the sun was setting already.
As she climbed the stairs, the young teacher soon found herself face-to-face with a dejected Pyrrha, who seemed almost surprised to see her.
"... Shit, these're the student dorms, right?" She asked, with Pyrrha giving an awkward nod to her. The catgirl rolled her eyes, then noticed Pyrrha's demeanor and asked "You alright there? You look more than a little off."
"How did..." Pyrrha started, then sighed "It is that obvious, isn't it?"
"Yup. Wanna talk about it?" Catra smirked "I need something to think about."
"I am not sure if it's something I should be talking about with a teacher..." Pyrrha awkwardly rubbed her arm. Catra shrugged.
"I'm not a teacher right now, kiddo." The Catgirl smirked, slinging her coat over her shoulders. "So go ahead, tell ol' Catra what's on your mind."
Pyrrha sighed, then said "It's about Jaune."
"Oh, boy, what's blondie three done?" She sighed.
Pyrrha looked confused ""Three'? Who're one and two?"
"Oh, come on, Nikos. Number two is Yang and number one is Adora." The catgirl quipped, grinning "Anyways, let's go find a place to sit and you can tell me." and they indeed went to find a resting area, with couches, just near the dorms themselves. The two sat themselves down, with Catra preparing herself to hear out what Pyrrha had to say. If she had to imagine Arc had done anything bad, it was probably being too stupid for his own sake, like several other times in the past.
"I... Still don't think I should tell you, ma'am. It's Jaune's secret." Pyrrha returned "And while we had an argument a mere few minutes ago, I... Don't feel comfortable giving away his secret."
Catra hummed, raising a brow at Pyrrha, then sighed and said "So I see. Well, that's fine then, but... Why did you two argue, beside the thing you can't tell me about?"
"I..." The redhead shook her head "I offered him my help in the form of training him for combat..."
"Yeah..." Catra winced "He kinda is sub-par, even in my class... Hell, he's just a bit worse than Ruby and that's saying something... And lemme guess, he turned ya down?"
"He reacted quite... Poorly, yes." Pyrrha nodded "What can I do?"
It would take an idiot of epic proportions(or the densest people alive, one of which currently seemed to be Jaune) to not see what Pyrrha was trying to do. Catra knew the girl was into Jaune since day one but didn't say anything, since she did figure it was pretty freaking obvious. Not to blondes, apparently. Did it really take a brick wall hitting them in the face or a direct confession for them to get it?
Catra sighed "Well, for now, nothing. Sorry, Pyrrha, I know this probably ain't something you wanna hear, but you may not wanna rush this."
"... Any piece of advice aside from that?" The redhead asked, almost pleading with her eyes. Catra winced, her thoughts quickly devolving into 'you could make him your mortal enemy and confess when you're both about to die' before she shook her head and suppressed a blush. That only worked for Catra because of several factors that more than likely couldn't be repeated.
Catra sighed "Nope. Can't help ya with that. It's gonna take something monumental for blondes to figure out someone likes them. Either gather up your guts and confess to him or... I dunno." She shrugged "Hit him in the head hard enough to-" She paused as she saw Pyrrha, wide-eyed and blushing. The catgirl chuckled, then said "Oh, come on, you thought I didn't see you? How you sneaked a peak at Jaune every so often when we were in class, or when you asked him to be your par-"
"Sorryma'amgottago!" Pyrrha yelped, interrupting Catra, then dashed off to their dorms. Catra burst into laughter, then stood up and started toward their room. Pyrrha was adorably naive to think that Catra didn't notice all the signs. Although, Arc... Hmm, she needed to figure that boy out. Eh, maybe tomorrow. Right now, she needed a hot shower and some time to relax. Maybe with Adora, if she could find the girl.
She paused, though, upon hearing laughter. Moving to the exit out to the rooftop, she took cover behind a wall. She listened in...
"We're friends now, Jauney-boy! And the way I see it, as long as you're there for me when I need you, we'll be friends for a long time..." And she could hear him walk away. That being said, I don't have the time to do those extra readings dr Oobleck gave us today... Think you could... Take care of that for me?" And he didn't even let the poor boy answer, before adding "That's what I thought! Don't worry, Jaune. Your secret's safe with me."
... If Cardin didn't make Catra's blood boil, she didn't know...
But she couldn't intervene. Not until she had some sort of evidence. Maybe she could get him suspended for a time, or... Get him clear proof that he can be tossed out. She grinned maliciously, then stepped away, off to find Adora. She didn't need to learn of Catra's little crusade. A crusade that had just begun in earnest, to fix Cardin's shit, or have him out of Beacon by next month... Because this was just a bit too much for Catra to forgive so easily.
Adora walked down through Beacon's gardens, trying to find Catra and take her back to the dorms. It was getting late and the sun set an hour or so ago, replaced by the moon as the one who stood high above all. Adora wondered where the catgirl could've gone, since it didn't usually take her this long to find her. She sighed, sitting herself down on one of the benches.
"Where'd you go, Catra?" She murmured to herself, rubbing her eyes to try and push away the tiredness she felt.
God, it took too long to find her. For all she knew, Catra was already sat somewhere nice and warm and she was on a wild goose chase. She sighed, shaking her head and leaning onto the bench, staring up at the sky now that the sun wasn't there to burn her retinas off. Had she even seen Catra today aside from them waking up and meeting at lunch?
"Adora?"
The girl perked up, leaning her head back enough that she saw Catra standing above her, upside-down. She smiled, jumped to her feet, then called out "Catra! You're here! I missed you!" as she wrapped her arms around the girl. Catra chuckled, hugging Adora back.
"Adora, c'mon, you're acting like you haven't seen me in weeks! We met at lunch!" She giggled, then sighed, purring as she leaned into the hug "I missed you too..."
Adora looked up, then started "Sooo... I may've just found out that we have an app on our Holo-TV with movies. It's a paid subscription service, but it seems Beacon likes tossing things like that teachers' and students' way, from what I read... And it's not pay-by-watch." And saw Catra grin. The blonde then hummed, then smiled again and asked "Sooo... Movie night?"
"Movie night!" Catra approved.
"Yes~!" Adora cheered silently "I'll prep the popcorn! C'mon!"
And the blonde took her kitten by the hand and started dragging her along, the two giggling like back during their youth days in the Horde. Catra looked to the right as she felt a gaze locked onto her. Blake and Yang poked their heads out from behind cover, with Yang giving a thumbs up to her, while Blake rolled her eyes, smiling. Catra raised a brow, then chuckled.
Back in the room, Adora quickly set up everything for the popcorn while Catra went to the couch, took the remote and started figuring out how to activate the App. She smirked, seeing a massive red 'R' as its icon. Tapping a button, she let the app start up... Before she nearly jumped out of her skin as she heard pops like those of energy weapons sound off. She jumped behind the couch with a yelp, then she hissed at the microwave and Adora. The blonde looked to her, surprised and tried to stifle a laugh.
To no one's surprise, she failed.
Catra didn't see what was funny about scaring her. As the blonde rolled on the floor, the catgirl called out "Hey! What the hell was that!?"
"Just..." Adora continued laughing, holding onto her stomach "It was just the popcorn! Ahahahahaha~!"
The kitten sighed, then smiledas she felt something moving below her. She looked to see Melog, whimpering and covering its ears. Catra glared at her, then said "You scared poor ol' Melog, Adora. Feel good?"
"Hey, it's not my fault..." The girl slowly composed herself, wiping away the tears of laughter "It's why it's called popcorn." and watching Catra stand back up, dusting herself off and straightening her tail, while Melog jumped up on the couch and sat itself down on one of the armrests. Catra sat herself down, rolled her eyes at Adora and looked for a movie to watch.
Moments later, the blonde brought a tub of buttery popcorn and two bottles of some local brand fizzy drink. She set the items on the table, sat herself down and pulled a blanket she had on the right toward them, wrapping herself and Catra in it, with Melog now at their feet. Catra struggled, then demanded angrily "What are you doing!?" as Adora took the remote.
"Nuh-huh. I pick the movie first." She smirked "I came up with the idea."
"Oh, like hell! You're gonna pick some sappy love movie or something!" Catra chuckled, making a grab for the remote. Adora tutted, then selected one movie. A horror one. Catra seemed pleasantly surprised at that, looking at her girlfriend. The blonde smirked still, kissed her on the forehead, then grabbed the popcorn off the table and put it in their lap, before cuddling closer to Catra, enough so that the blanket covered both of them.
And with a touch of her scroll, she also shut off the light.
Catra grinned "Oooh! Going full cinema experience, like we read about? Heh, you thought this through. And you didn't even burn the Popcorn."
"Don't I always?" She chuckled, then realized "Think things through, not burn the popcorn."
Catra quipped "Nope. Skimming over your insane plans during the War... You're dating me, remember?"
"I'd say I thought it through." Adora shot back, proudly leaning her head onto Catra's. The catgirl blushed, letting out a happy giggle and purring as they watched the movie. She took a fistful of Popcorn and started munching down on it. The two sat, contently watching the horror movie Adora had selected. At least until the actual scary parts came in...
By that point, Adora and Catra were huddled under the blanket, staring at the screen with expressions that could only be summed up as 'New pants required' levels of fright. Catra murmured "Don't go in there, you idiot, stay with the group..." Before she yelped, covering her face with the blanket as the killer appeared and the screams of the victim echoed. Adora was pretty much staring with disbelief at the fact that that's how much blood a human body had.
She blinked, snapping out of the trance, before she looked down at the cowering Catra. She smiled, then let out a whispered "Awww..." as she saw her covering her ears. Catra peeked up, then scowled. Adora giggled, running her hand through Catra's hair. It was growing slowly, being long enough to reach Catra's shoulders right now. And she was letting it grow, because to hell with what Horde Prime wanted. The kitten pouted, pushing her head up. She smugly smirked, closing her eyes as she pushed her hair into Adora's nose, tickling her and purring.
Adora sneezed, then chuckled, pushing Catra's head down. A bit more time passed and Adora was struggling to keep her eyes open. She blinked, trying to keep the tiredness away, before looking down. On her lap, curled up in her usual sleeping position, Catra snored away peacefully, ears droopy. Beside them, Melog was fast asleep too. The two cats' ears twitched rarely, an adorable sight to behold.
The blonde was content to fall asleep now, leaning back her head and listening to the calming sounds of her kittens. Remnant was a weird place, indeed, but it wasn't horrible. The girls were teachers. They had a place to stay, food to eat and warmth, so they were set for the time until their friends would come to get them... And even then, would it have been bad to stick around?
Adora figured that was a question best answered when the moment came. She and Catra could handle things here and with what Ruby was preparing for them? Well, aside from the expedition they were gonna undertake into the Emerald Forest, nothing much else could cause problems to them. Aside from rowdy students, the Grimm and whatever Ozpin's deal was. She wanted to trust him, but something felt off. Miss Goodwitch and his allies seemed kind enough, though, so maybe that was just Adora's paranoia talking...
She'd see to figuring things out tomorrow, she thought as she drifted off to sleep...
AN:I know, I know, I'm early. Please, enjoy!
