I remember liking Green Lantern back when Justice League was airing. I remember reading and loving Geoff Johns' run on the comics. And now I have hope for the HBO Max show. I really hope it's good.
This is an idea that popped into my head and refuses to leave, so I figured I might as well try this out.
I do not own Oregairu or Green Lantern. They are the properties of their respective owners.
Enjoy!
Hachiman gasped as his eyes shot open. He forced himself upward. Only to realize that he wasn't in his bed. His bed was never this also didn't have what looked like clouds all around it.
Rubbing his eyes, Hachiman tried to better discern where he was. And what he saw shocked him.
He wasn't in his house, that was for sure. It was far too sleek, with a sort of shiny metal design. The chair he had been sitting on looked more like some sort of high decor furniture than anything his parents could afford. There were also now walls, so he could see the cloudless sky clearly.
Hadn't it been cloudy?
"What is this place?" Hachiman wondered as he looked around. His eyes stopped when he looked towards a mirror. And saw himself.
Hachiman's eyes widened when he looked in the mirror. That was not the outfit he last had on. He distantly remembered having on a pair of jeans and an orange t-shirt. Nothing fashionable, and nothing that would draw attention to him. Just the way he liked.
This outfit was nothing like that. It was a skintight black suit with a lot of green. Gloves, boots, a belt, and the entire chest were all colored emerald. There was even a small green domino mask on his face, for some reason. The only thing that wasn't black or green was the large white circle in the middle of his chest. It was completely blank.
And on his right hand, he had on a green ring for some reason.
"Have you concluded admiring yourself?"
Hachiman abruptly stopped flexing in the mirror and turned to the speaker. He almost choked on the air when he saw who it was.
Or more specifically, what it was.
It wasn't a human. It stood upright on two legs like a human. It even had four limbs like one. But this thing had only four fingers. And it had scales in the place of skin. It had a beaked face. And a large fin on its head in the place of hair.
It looked like a talking fish-man.
"Uh, yes?" Hachiman didn't really know what to say.
"Well, that is good then," the fish creature said as if nothing strange was happening. It was a little much for Hachiman to handle.
"You're a talking fish?" Hachiman said that aloud before he could stop himself.
"Actually, my race is Xudarian. Although we do bear a resemblance to one of the species of your planet."
"Xudarian? Wait, wait," Hachiman muttered as he shook his head. This wasn't making any sense. "Are you... an alien?"
The fish-man (Xudarian) pursed his lips. "I suppose I would be to you. I am a member of a species far from yours. Though by that logic, you would also be an alien to me."
"Oh. I guess that makes sense," Hachiman said as he rubbed his face. He thought doing so would help clear his mind just a bit. But instead, he just noticed a different problem. He didn't feel anything on his face.
"The mask appears only when you feel the need to protect your identity. There's no need for it here."
"Oh."
"Perhaps we should start again with introductions," the fish-man said as he stepped closer. "My name is Tomar-Re. I am the Green Lantern of Sector 2813. And you are?"
"Hikigaya Hachiman." Hachiman had no intention to say anything aside from his name. But he suddenly felt words enter his mind and spill from his mouth. "Green Lantern of Sector 2814. Comprised of over nine-thousand galaxies, housing nearly 2.5 million species."
Hachiman shook his head. "How do I know that?"
"The Induction process. When a new recruit's mind is augmented and filled with the necessary information," Tomar-Re explained. "In truth we were curious. The process has never been attempted on a species as young as humans."
Young? Hachiman had never thought much about space or given any thought to aliens. But now he was talking to one.
"Still, it seems that the process was successful. You are here after all."
Hachiman remembered something he had been wondering.
"Where is here?"
In response, Tomar-Re turned and motioned for Hachiman to follow him. Not knowing what else to do, Hachiman walked behind him. They both walked to the edge of the structure they were standing on. Tomar-Re motioned out to the distance, and what Hachiman saw put him at a loss for words.
It was a city built to reach the sky. The structure that Hachiman and Tomar-Re stood on was able to see the clouds vividly. And the structures themselves were incredible. Sleek, silver, and more advanced than anything Hachiman had ever seen. But the thing that caught Hachiman's attention the most was the green lights.
All of the skies and structures, green lights continued to fly everywhere. And if Hachiman looked closely, he could see that there were people in these lights. Or aliens.
Noting Hachiman's amazement, Tomar-Re continued to speak.
"This is Oa. Homeworld of the Guardians of the Universe. The center of the universe itself, seated in Sector 0000," Tomar-Re stated. His voice carried a sense of majesty and pride that Hachiman could not deny.
But he did have one major question.
"Why am I here?"
"You are here because of the ring on your hand."
Hachiman immediately looked down at his right arm. The same green ring was still there.
"It is that ring that chose you to stand among us.
"Us?"
"The ring chose you to become a Green Lantern. One of the protectors of the universe, safeguarding it from evils of all sorts."
Hachiman's mind was at its limit. He could only muster one response.
"What?"
This is more of a preview for a story I could write. If I do decide to make this into a story, I will explain how Hachiman got the ring. And who he got it from.
For now, this is just a one-shot. But I may expand it, depending on the reaction.
Anyway, please leave reviews, tell me what you think, and I will see you all next time.
Bye!
