Yes, yes, I know, Halloween has gone by, but I couldn't resist writing a fanfic for my favourite celebration! Soo yeah you can expect at least another autumnal fanfiction coming from me most likely, depends how busy I'll be, but until then I hope you'll enjoy this one!
The sound of laughter was echoing through the lively hallways of Cherryton Academy as students in various fancy costumes traversed them. Some dressed in a more common and unoriginal way while others decided to put a little more effort and spice into theirs. Halloween was a pretty big and important celebration here. On this day students didn't actually come to school to study but instead there were various events that were held with rewards which, you guessed it, consisted of sweets!
However just because this wasn't a regular school day, this didn't mean that it wasn't a school day, so there was no missing out in case you didn't want to go to school! Oh and of course everyone had to be disguised! Didn't matter how much effort you put into it, but you needed to have some sort of costume! Other than that, there weren't many rules that everyone needed to follow. You could walk around freely and participate in the various events. The different clubs sometimes held events, among the participants of the clubs, and the drama club was certainly no exception.
Their event was pumpkin carving!
But not simply that, everyone needed to write their name on a sheet of paper and put it into a basket, that was shaped like a pumpkin! (to make everything a little more festive). However, the judge of it all pulled two names at a time and the names of those two, formed the couple that needed to work together on the pumpkin carving.
Jack and I were still making our rounds in the hallways, I was supposed to go to the gym for the pumpkin carving contest at 11 and I knew I needed to because even if I really didn't want to Jack would have forced me. It wasn't that I didn't like the other club members or anything like that! I just didn't want to mess it up and make my partner lose. I've always been rather clumsy. Just look at my costume! I was supposed to look like a cool mummified wolf, but I just look like I fell into the biggest toilet ever.
Or at least that's what I told myself, but Jack seemed to like it, especially because I even put some contact lenses in to make my eyes completely white and look even more lifeless and I even had an amulet with a golden scarab! I suppose my costume wasn't that bad after all...I did put quite some effort into making it.
Jacks was even cooler though! He was disguised as a zombie dog! I did help him with making some prosthetics that he could use to make it look like he had some really deep wounds with blood dripping from them and some dried-up blood all around. It must be a pain to get everything off of his fur later (no, literally that will probably hurt a lot). But he decided to take it even a step further, he painted his fur greenish with different shades of green, I had to help him with this one too to get it to cover everything.
I was really proud of our work, but I certainly wasn't jealous. I was already feeling uncomfortable watching him as he was stumbling across the school. The thing is, I wasn't sure if he was trying to imitate a zombie or if that was just the way he was forced to walk right now.
As we went on, we saw events including witchery with students brewing wicked potions, spectres attempting to scare students in spooky classrooms and vampires chugging down huge amounts of scarlet red blood, which was raspberry juice but that's not important.
We had quite some fun and I admit it, I probably wouldn't have participated in most activities, if I had been by myself, even if I wanted to, Jack gave me courage. We'd been together ever since I can remember, and he had always been the one who motivate me to do fun activities. I was really grateful to have him by my side.
He was the one I usually didn't feel embarrassed around, I could be myself without him looking at me in a staggering way.
I was quite sad that we weren't in the drama club together at times, sure I didn't want to cling onto him or anything but I just felt very at ease around him and I didn't feel like my presence really bothered him too much either. We had been friends for a long time after all and Jack is probably honestly the sweetest animal I know.
I shook my head finally breaking out of my daze and interrupting my thought process, realizing I had been smiling like the biggest goof when I heard the sound of the school bell ringing in my ears. I looked up at the clock and saw that I was…
"Oh no! Shit! Jack I gotta run to the gym catch ya later!"
I ran as fast as my legs could carry me through masses of people, pushing some by accident and shouting apologies left and right, my lungs felt like they were going to burst and I was nearly sent flying down the stairs, but I managed to get there in the end, just in time to see my partner awaiting my arrival expectantly.
"Oh, congrats Legoshi, now if you don't mind helping me cut this pumpkin open."
It took me a second to realize that Louis was in fact talking to me because I was his partner for this and I could tell that he was, maybe just a little annoyed, maybe because I got here late, or maybe he just didn't want to work with me.
Oh well wasn't important we just needed to carve a pumpkin together, that's all! So why could I feel sweat running down my forehead? Oh yeah! Maybe because I was teamed up with the certain future Beastar. Most would kill to be in my position right now.
I even looked back to see the other pairings. The one pairing that stuck out to me, maybe simply because Juno had been waving so much at me, was Juno and Zoe. I waved back at her and saw that the other groups were already really getting into their pumpkins and to remind that I should do the same, Louis grabbed my hand with a bit of force and got me to stare right into his hazel eyes.
"Listen Legoshi, I hate to admit it, but I'm a terrible loser and I would very much appreciate you actually trying to help me with the pumpkin here since we are in a group together. I've seen some of the stuff you can craft and make, so I'm sure you can come up with a cool idea for us to win this!"
He sounded very forceful and somehow encouraging at the same time, this was just how he was, and he didn't speak in a swollen way because he was probably very stressed right now. He was right I needed to focus, but first and foremost I needed to get this blush that was plastered on my cheeks to disappear.
I was trying to think of a cool concept and grabbed a pen and notebook from my bag that I was carrying with me to write down some ideas and sketch some things. I took a minute to look at his costume properly. He was wearing a vampire count type of costume, with a long silken cape that was black as night on the outside and blood red on the inside. Blood was dripping from the inner corners of his lips and when he opened his jaw, he revealed vampiric fangs. His entire attire looked very expensive and I was honestly mesmerized.
I could see him trying to cut into the pumpkin, but he was...rather clumsy as much as I hate to say it. So, I decided to put my hands around his hand that was holding the knife to try and guide him.
His hand felt cold in mine and I think he could feel the warmth radiating from mine onto his, it felt nice even if a little unusual I suppose. After helping him dig that knife in there and getting the stem off I grabbed a chair and sat down to start writing down some ideas.
POV OF LOUIS:
Hmph, didn't expect him to have such big and warm hands. He seemed to be really good at this, I'd heard that he liked creating things and drawing and it showed, he seemed in his element for once.
I didn't know how to feel when he left my hand there so lonely to sit down and write down some things. After having been embraced by his hand, mine wanted more, as strange as it sounded I did feel lonely sometimes and this unexpected warmth from him that I could feel in that very moment was something I had been missing for a while now.
I dug my hand deep into the guts of the pumpkin and felt the seeds all around my wrist as the scent of pumpkin filled the air. I gazed over at Legoshi for a second and saw that he was working very hard on some ideas we could use for our pumpkin.
I tried pulling out as much of the stuff as possible and I might have pulled out just a little too much, when some of it flew onto Legoshis head. However somehow, he didn't seem to notice, he must have really been focusing on the pumpkin, unlike me, gosh what was wrong with me, was winning not the most important thing anymore?
"Oh, ehh, Legoshi, hold up I got some pumpkin pulp onto you, sorry about that..."
I approached him and literally felt my cheeks flush in deep red as I got the stuff off of him and our eyes met. I couldn't tell anything by looking at him since his entire face was covered in bandages, I just fell into those eyes that were keeping me trapped there, standing still for a second, before regaining control and continuing.
I was ripping out the pulp a bit more carefully now, when I felt something against my cheek, next thing I saw was a bit of pulp with some seeds falling off my cheek onto the table. I looked over to Legoshi who was visibly smiling at me with a smug grin and keeping a hand lifted up with some remains of pumpkin, I was shocked at first.
"Oops."
Then I started laughing and soon enough the atmosphere became much less tense, I actually felt like I was having fun with him, which is something I never expected I could say, not with anyone in the drama club or anyone in this school for that sake and the last person I'd possibly think of in that way had to be Legoshi. But this experience helped me get to know him better and possibly see that he wasn't just any carnivore, there was something hidden pas those fangs that he wouldn't show to anyone and I was intrigued.
He showed me his concept and after we both agreed upon it, he immediately started sculpting it while I cleaned out the inside of the pumpkin. I could hear the room falling silent after they had heard us talking and even laughing so much. I think they were as surprised as we were, with this synergy we had going, but honestly, I couldn't care less about the other right now, this right now was important to me.
I'd never noticed how adorable his smile was until today, or maybe I had just been denying it, thinking of him as nothing more but a carnivore, but I was wrong, now I know that for sure.
There were only five minutes left and I turned around for a second, looking at the others, some of them were just waiting for the time to be over, having long been done with their pumpkin while others were frantically trying their best to finish the pumpkin. I felt panicked myself now, wondering if I should have been working faster or with more precision.
But then I felt him grab my shoulder and he looked me in the eyes.
"Hey, look at me Louis, we are not going to lose this competition, just take a deep breath and trust me. Can you do that for me?"
I was shocked, never had I seen him talk in this way to anyone, he seemed so convincing and confident, where did this come from? I was even more intrigued now and maybe just a little attracted.
This was enough to get me to calm down at least for the time being and focus on the work ahead, there wasn't really that much to do anyways, I just needed to relax, Legoshi was right, we could do this together!
TIMESKIP: ( about 5 minutes later now from Legoshi's POV)
"Everyone stop what you are doing, drop your tools! The time is up! Now show us what great creations and designs you've come up with!"
Screamed the judge from the podium, where we needed to carry our pumpkins, I got some of the sweat on my forehead away with the back of my hand and looked over at Louis, who gave me a thumbs up and the most genuine smile I'd ever seen from him.
I was really satisfied with what we came up with together and I don't think I've ever worked so well with someone, not even Jack. Maybe I needed to get to know other people better, not just Jack.
I discovered a completely different side of Louis today and I was really happy that he allowed me to see it and him in full bloom, it was really beautiful and didn't know how to act, I could feel his scent just lingering in my nose, not wanting to leave. I didn't want it to leave, I didn't want him to leave, I wanted him all for myself.
But I knew this wasn't possible, there were so many people admiring him and adoring him who were probably much closer to him than I could ever be, we were just working together during the event, I was just one among many who had fallen for his charm and would never get to taste those delicious lips of his.
But I still smiled back, hiding my feelings as I usually did and running away from them. This was what I knew and what I felt comfortable with. So, I just decided that dreaming and imagining him in my grasp would suffice.
We carried the pumpkin together on a platter, covered by a veil as we were told to do, to keep our creations a surprise to be revealed. The judges would only look at them in private and reveal the results to us later today in the courtyard, where the winners of each event were announced and asked to step onto the main stage to receive their rewards.
So, for now we were asked to leave the gym and wait until 1 pm. We could go participate in other events meanwhile or buy ourselves some of the Halloween themed snacks some students had prepared on purpose and I couldn't deny that getting one of those poison apples was rather tempting.
However...
"Hey Legoshi, where did you wanna go? Mind if I join you?"
I looked back at Louis who was standing there expectantly, seeing as his cheeks soon became tainted in pink, I just smiled at him and gestured for him to join me. I was blushing a lot myself, but even if I he couldn't see that, I'm sure my waggling tail was a pretty solid giveaway.
JACKS POV:
"Hm, I wonder where he is, he said he'd be here later..."
I looked at the clock, he was ten minutes late already, usually he tried to be pretty punctual, simply because he felt embarrassed if he didn't, but I guess it happens to everyone and maybe the competition just lasted a little longer than he predicted.
So, I just sat down in the courtyard for a bit watching everyone pass by in their costumes and laughing. After waiting for about 20 more minutes all by myself I decided that I should probably go have some fun myself, so when I saw some of my friends I joined them and we hung out until the prizes were given away to the winners of the competitions.
The courtyard was filled with students of all classes and they were all expectantly awaiting the announcement of the winners.
"Good day students of Cherryton Academy and Happy Halloween everyone!"
Clapping and laughing students flooded the area and candy and chocolate bars were thrown into the yard, the taller students gave some of it to the shorter ones who couldn't reach it and it was all in all just a very nice and festive atmosphere.
"Ok ok, now before I let you go, we need to announce the winners of each event and call them onto the stage and a big applause to everyone who participated and made this event so great!"
I was excited but at the same time I felt, well, worried, I hadn't seen Legoshi since he left to go pumpkin carving. He didn't even text me or call me, warning me that he wouldn't be there, it was just so unusual for him to do such a thing.
While I was drowning in thoughts and worries the first winners of the categories were called onto the stage, soon enough she would reveal the winners of the pumpkin carving event.
"Now at last, the winners of the event organized by the drama club, the pumpkin carving event! The first prize goes too….Legoshi and Louis pumpkin!"
I was taken out of my daze and started cheering immediately! It wasn't that I was surprised that Legoshi could win a competition like this, but him and Louis? They were complete opposites, for them to work so well together! I was surprised!
However, the crowd soon became silent when no one walked onto the stage, neither Louis nor Legoshi were here. But where were they then!?
"It seems that Legoshi and Louis aren't here unfortunately, so we call the second place to join us on the stage! Juno and Zoe! Congratulations! Thank you everyone for joining us here today and happy Halloween!"
I walked up onto the stage once most had left and tried to talk to the judge and Juno to see if they knew where Louis and Legoshi could possibly be, but they didn't seem to know anything themselves, not even Juno who was without a doubt madly in love with Legoshi and stalked him on any occasion she had.
The judge just gave me the prize and asked me to deliver it to them when I saw them since we were close and in the same dorm after all.
I left the area to go somewhere more quiet and I called Legoshi right away to see if he would at least respond, I was just so worried and respond he did.
"Oh, hey Jack, Ehm sorry for not joining you as I promised, let's say something kept me from it."
"Oh, so now I'm an object?"
"Well you are mine now, you can bet on that."
I could hear some strange, muffled sounds and clearly the voices of Legoshi and Louis who seemed to be panting quite a lot, I didn't even know what to say.
"I'll call you later Jack oh and happy Halloween."
"Eh, yeah happy Halloween..."
I decided not to ask any further questions when he arrived that night with torn up bandages not needing to know the details of what precisely occurred on Halloween Eve.
This was probably the longest one shot I've ever written, and I hope it didn't get boring or anything! Loved writing it and yes, I know Halloween is over, but I had to! Hope you enjoyed it nevertheless and reviews are always very appreciated and welcome! Wish you a great day!
