Helljumper

Cocoa Island Campaign Day 1

Miles spends the next 6 and a half hours meeting the rest of the squad, and catching up on a bit of sleep. In the squad with him there's Helljumper Leader, Oak, the one in charge, Helljumper 2, Fuschia, 2IC and tech specialist, Helljumper 3, Arthur, recon and sniping, Helljumper 4, Stone, heavy weaponry, Helljumper 5, Astro, EVA specialist, Helljumper 6, Scorch, bomb defusal and detonation, Helljumper 7, Fin, underwater specialist, Helljumper 8, Gauge, CQB, and himself, Helljumper 9. After almost 7 hours an air horn sounds in the main room, waking Miles and a few other Helljumpers that had also fallen asleep.

Helljumper Leader - "Deployment imminent! Grab your gear, find your chair, and get set for a combat drop!"

Gauge- "Rise and shine Mr. Freeman."

Arthur - "Yes sir."

Miles, instead of verbally responding, jumps out of bed and heads to the armoury, where the rest of the squad, aside from Arthur and Gauge, are already gearing up. Miles walks over to his own pod and starts suiting up. Once everyone is suited up, they grab their equipment, and start jogging to the flight deck. Soldiers and ship crew clear the halls and salute, clearly showing that the Helljumpers hold a lot of respect among the rank and file. As they reach the flight deck, airborne infantry are sprinting to the transports, and the Helljumpers are no exception. It's not long after they all load up that the transport takes off, VTOLs blazing, blasting to the horizon. It's a quick trip, and Helljumper Leader gets up to give a short briefing, like anyone actually needs it.

Helljumper Leader - "This is it lads, MAF are preparing to engage enemy forces, and we're the tip of the spear. You all know your jobs, secure a beachhead for allied troops, failure is not a possibility, cause you're better than the best, you're Helljumpers."

Whole squad - "OORAH"

Oak takes a look out of the door as the transport starts getting rocked by anti-aircraft fire.

Helljumper 6 - "That's flak fire, probably 88mm, if they had time to set that up, this is gonna be one hell of a drop."

Helljumper 5 - "If you don't think your shields can take it, you're welcome to stay in the plane."

Helljumper Leader - "Stow it and hold on! This is gonna get bumpy!"

After about 15 minutes of sitting there with no sound except the flak hitting the hull of the plane and the burning of one of the thrusters on fire, the signal light turns from red to green.

Helljumper Pilot - "Light's green Helljumpers, go go go!

Starting with Oak, the Helljumpers get up and jump out of the sides of the transport craft, not a single parachute in sight. Miles is a little unnerved by this, but figures it must be because the armour can take the impact. The drop is chaotic, other airborne units are making the jumps, but some parachutes are being plucked right out of the sky, the poor souls attached to them dead before they hit the ground. The squad is plummeting, as explosions go off all round them. Helljumper 8, Gauge, gets one right in front of her, but she keeps falling on through. After a few minutes, Oak comes over the radio and calls out, not only to the squad, but to all friendly units.

Helljumper Leader - "All units, this is Helljumper Leader. Hostile aircraft detected on approach vector, everyone scatter, now!"

The Helljumpers all bank away from each other and start slowing their freefall, as parachutes start to thin out and split off from one another. As the ground starts getting closer fast, the squad start to steady themselves and prepare to fire boosters, and Miles starts to panic a little bit. Hearing aircraft buzz overhead and open fire on the parachuters, he doesn't manage to fire off in time, and hits the ground with a solid thud, even making a small crater from the impact. It takes a few minutes for him to come back around, and wakes to find himself right in the middle of a battlefield, with the squad split into groups. He picks himself up, grabs the rifle and beamer he dropped with, and his radio crackles to life.

Helljumper 3 - "Any friendly units, this is Helljumper 3, I have been engaged by enemy forces and am pinned down by heavy fire, requesting immediate support to my location, over!"

Helljumper 7- "Helljumper 3 this is Helljumper 7, reading you loud and clear, on route."

Helljumper 9 - "Helljumper 3 this is Helljumper 9, I'm on my way, be there soon."

Helljumper 3 - "Make it quick fellas, these birds aren't making it any easier!"

Shaking off the bruises and setting off at a sprint, it isn't long until Miles meets up with 7, Fin, and spot 3's location. Sharing a silent nod between the two of them, they open fire on the attacking Kukku forces, combining their fire with Arthur's, and quickly forcing them back from this location. The trio regroups and reloads, before setting off to the beachhead itself. Once they arrive, they find paratroopers pinned down by all types of weapon fire from enemy bunkers. Before they can do something about it though, the main bunker goes up in smoke, as 6 and 8 step out of the burning bunker. They also spot 5 hijacking an enemy helicopter in midair, something Miles didn't even think was possible. As the rest of the bunkers are cleared, Scorch gets a radio comm from Helljumper Leader.

Helljumper 6 - "Loud and clear, go ahead sir. Bunkers being cleared, I have 3, 5, 7, 8, and 9 here with me. Say again, how many of them?! Affirmative, Helljumpers on route."

Helljumper 3 - "Sounds like trouble, where are they?"

Helljumper 6 - "About three and a half klicks north east, 2 and 4 are with him, hostile light armour, hope one of you brought some ordnance."

Helljumper 5 - "Good thing I nicked some transport, mount up people."

Miles makes ready his beam cannon, and Gauge grabs a grenade launcher from one of the paras, and the squad load into the helicopter. It's a short few minutes before they come up on the battlezone, and the squad starts firing out the side of the helicopter. As an enemy light tank comes into view and starts taking aim, Miles charges and fires his beam cannon, taking the armour down in a single glorious blast.

Helljumper 9 - "Now this is a gun!"

The Mobian soldiers on the ground redouble their efforts, after the squad makes a hot drop from the chopper, the Kukku are beaten back once again. The Helljumpers make a full regroup.

Helljumper Leader - "Nice going everybody, we've got a beachhead secured, and more paras are dropping in to secure the surrounding area, and we've got a target of opportunity already. Apparently there's an enemy research facility a few hours north that GUN wants their hands on. They aren't sending up any support in this conflict or anything, but that won't stop them demanding it, and as long as they supply our ammo, we might as well oblige them.

Helljumper 2 - "And how long until they stop supplying our ammo?"

Helljumper Leader - "We burn that bridge when we get to it, get some rest, we move in out in an hour."

As the squad disperses, some of them, including Miles, take off their helmets for some fresh air, and a pair of Kukku snipers watches from the far treeline.

Kukku Sniper 1 - "High value targets spotted, transmitting visuals, you seeing this command?"

Kukku Command - "Affirmative, squad identified as Helljumpers, this could be a problem."

Kukku Sniper 2 - "Wait, that one on the far left, in the black armour. I've seen that one before. Bloody hell it's the fox, the fox is here!"

Kukku Command - "Fall back! Alerting all forces, get out of there!"
