? (2) POV (Continued)
I rise from my mat quickly as I realize what time it was, 'Well, if I didn't have a death wish already.' I threw on the clothes hidden in the depths of my closet. I opened my door and checked the perimeter. All clear. I smirked and ran off into the night.
'Ready or not, here I come.'
3rd Person POV
Kane left his mother in the medical bay in search of Cyborg, per his mother's orders. While searching blindly through the halls, Kane could have sworn that he saw Nightwing moving about in the dark. He shrugged it off and continued on his journey.
Nightwing had in fact, been moving around in the dark. In fact, he was leaving the Tower as quietly as he could. After all, no one could know of his secret meetings with an informant that hopefully could bring Slade down. Nightwing silently grabbed his bike and pushed it far enough from the Tower that no one could hear him start it up. After a medium-length ride, he arrived at the warehouse where he usually met with his informant.
He parked his bike outside and tapped a series of knocks on the door, before letting himself in after he heard the locks unlock. He looked at his informant and observed slight movement in the shadows behind her.
"It's good to see you again, old friend," she started, allowing herself to relax as she feels the vibration of her "shadow" arriving.
Nightwing nodded curtly, "It's nice to see you as well..." There once again was movement in the shadows, and he launched a throwing blade into the dark, "It seems we have company." She shot her head to the shadows, looking worried; but of what, Nightwing couldn't tell.
A chuckle came from the shadows, the voice distorted from a voice changer, "I never knew that the Boy Wonder had such a keen eye," the blade that he threw slid across the floor, "But he's such a crappy shot." Another chuckle. Nightwing was in defense mode, automatically thinking of every attack he would use against his unseen foe. He placed himself into an attack stance, but before he could react his stance was obstructed by the earth rumbling underneath him.
"ENOUGH!" Terra screamed, not wanting her ally and her old friend to fight. Her eyes stopped glowing yellow and she sighed loudly. She didn't have time for this childish nonsense.
The female informant and former Titan sighed, "Come out into the light, Renegade."
A huff came from the shadows, "You never let me have any fun." Nightwing tensed as he watched a figure slowly emerge from the dark. This "Renegade", whomever they were, was wearing a black hoodie. Under the dark hood laid a dark bandana that covered Renegade's mouth and nose. Pieces of tanned skin were shown through the parts of the face that were not covered. The rest of Renegade's outfit was black, but the thing that stood out to Nightwing was his own reflection staring back at him through the reflective sunglasses Renegade was wearing. Renegade stood behind Terra in a protective manner, despite the two being near the same size.
Terra sighed again, "Night, I'd like you to officially meet Renegade, my partner-in-crime," both Renegade and Nightwing nodded toward each other, "I need you both to play nice from now on." Renegade and Nightwing nodded silently again, both eyeing the other wearily.
Terra nodded in finality, "Good, now back to business. Slade is planning on a transport of some kind of "package", but I don't know what it is or why he's transporting, all I know is it's supposed to be super important because he's basically setting everyone on his payroll into standby, including me and Renegade."
Nightwing's eyes snapped towards his female counterpart, "Renegade?" He turned to her protector, "You work for Slade?"
Renegade snickered, before their distorted voice rung in Nightwing's ears,"I wouldn't be a renegade if I didn't have something to betray and leave behind. Any idiot with a basic understanding of logic can figure that one out." Terra slapped her ally gently in the chest, mumbling a 'be nice', before looking back at Nightwing.
Terra continued, "The only other information I have is the transport date is that it's happening in 3 days." She glances to her counterpart, "Renegade plans to infiltrate the transport and take it as our own."
Nightwing's eyes narrowed, 'Why would Renegade…'
He was unable to finish his thought when Renegade's distorted voice answered, "He's expecting you." He looked at Renegade, confused. He turned to Terra, a silent question hanging in the air. Terra smirked, and glanced back to Renegade. The terra-kinetic shrugged nonchalantly.
And that's when Nightwing heard it, a voice rang inside his mind, "Never underestimate your opponent, Mr. Grayson." A chill ran down his spine, not at the words, but at the name. Whoever the Renegade was, they knew his name. His body tensed and he couldn't help feeling helpless in front of someone who knew his every thought. He had dealt with mind-readers before, but this was different. The telepaths he had experience with always felt cold, intrusive, like an ice cube on your back during a hot summer day. This felt warm, calm, almost euphoric. He probably wouldn't have known that Renegade was in his head had they not said anything. He felt a small twinge and suddenly he felt calm.
It was a long pause before he spoke, "You're a telepath."
Renegade laughed, almost mockingly, "I have the ability of telepathy, yes. But no, I am not a telepath."
Terra slapped her ally in the chest again, before speaking for the first time since the reveal, "Renegade has powers that are still being unlocked, so to speak. The powers that we are aware of so far are telepathy and empathy," Nightwing opened his mouth to reply, but Terra continued, "However, we must use the uttermost discretion about Renegade's powers. No one can know but the people in this room. Are we clear?" A nod. "Good. Now, it's been a very long night. I'll contact you with any details I can find. Other than that...Good night, old friend." Nightwing nodded and exited the warehouse without another word.
Terra pushed her ally away from her in a glare, "Where were you? I specifically told you to get here early!"
Renegade's put their hands up in surrender, "My bad. I was… busy."
Terra crossed her arms, "With what?"
"Raven." With that one name, all the anger left Terra's body.
Her eyes softened, "Is she okay?" A nod. Terra then proceeded to punch Renegade as hard as she possibly could in the arm, causing Renegade to flinch and rub their now sore arm.
"Next time, tell me." Another nod. A sigh, "Let's go. We have work to do." Terra exited the warehouse, Renegade following close behind.
What they didn't notice was Nightwing looking through one of the windows, a frown on his face.
