It was hard to believe all of the things that had changed in his life. How he had a family now. How his brother spends time together with him again just like when they were children. Before his mother and father forced things on him his brother became a rebel.
Regulus Arcturus Black slowly drifted into consciousness as he heard a knock on his door, he couldn't help but think back to when his son had woken him up years ago on that fateful night.
"Father? Father?" Archer cut him out of his thoughts. "You said we can visit mother," he added, knocking on the door once more. Regulus smiled at his son's words, but that night still crept in his mind.
"I'll be right there, Arch," Regulus called as he slid out of bed and began to pull on clothes. "Then we can eat and go visit your mother," he told his son as he opened the door to see his son rocking on his feet and playing with his hands. Even though Regulus could not see his face because he was looking down he knew that his son was smiling.
"Good morning, Father," he said in a low whisper. "Did…..did you sleep well?" Archer asked voice still quiet.
Regulus smiled at him and ruffled his red sandy hair. "Yes, I did. Thank you, son. Now, who is hungry?" Regulus asked with a small smile.
Archer looked up for a moment and nodded slowly. "Then we can see mother and I'm sorry I slept in. I know that we get up at seven but I had a weird dream," Regulus added as he and Archer walked down the stairs.
"What…..What was your dream about?" Archer asked as they walked into the dining room. Archer then sat down at the table and fiddled with his hands. Regulus smiled and looked at him however he did not say anything for he was thinking about a lie to tell him. However, this led him to think about that night.
Cold water filled his lungs as he was dragged down. He was happy about going down because if he was going down then he was going down as a hero, not as some Death Eater. Even though that will always be with him, but he will die. He wished that he could say sorry to his brother before he goes but things can't be that way. Regulus had no thoughts at all, nothing to think about other than him dying and his brother. Soon he could not breathe. Soon everything would be black, and he would be alive no one.
"Father?" Archer cut Regulus out of the memory. "You're hurting the food," he said playing with his hands again and rocking. Regulus looked at him and smiled. "Were you thinking about your dream?" Archer asked looking down at the table when Regulus brought the food over and set it down in front of his son.
"Yeah, I was. Arch?" Regulus asked sitting down next to him looking at the paper in front of him.
"Yes, father?" Archer asked as he started to eat the eggs that were set in front of him.
"Um, do you want to see Uncle Sirius this weekend?" Regulus asked but this was not the question he wanted to ask. Archer smiled and nodded bouncing up and down in his chair. Regulus smiled at his son and looked down at the paper.
"Father? Um, are you going to eat too? I don't think mother would like it if you didn't eat. She hates it when you don't eat," Archer said with a smirk on his face. Regulus laughed a little at this. He knew that Archer didn't understand that his mother is not alive. However, Regulus humored him.
"Well, your mother would not like that would she. She is always saving me and you, right?" Regulus said standing up to get some food for himself with the last thing he said running through his mind.
"Sir? Sir? Can you hear me?" Regulus heard a voice, but he did not go to it for it could just be someone in hell with him. "Sir? I'm going to take care of you. the voice said again but again Regulus did not go to it. Why would he? "My name is Elizabeth you are going to be just fine," her voice was kind and Regulus liked it, but he could not find a way to get to it. Even though he should try. "Okay, he's stable,"
"Do we have a name yet?" another voice asked but this one was fuzzy because he did not want to hear the voice. That beautiful voice. Oh, Merlin, he was dead, and this is what an angel sounds like. "And you found him in a cave half-drowned?" the voice of a man asked. This is when Regulus opened his gray eyes. He coughed. It was a wet and ruffed sound.
"Regulus… My name is..." Regulus attempted but hadn't managed to finish the sentence before he passed out.
Regulus and Archer arrived at the graveyard where his wife was buried. It was quiet that Sunday morning. Not that Regulus cared, and he might think that Archer might not care either. "Father, can I go find her?" Archer asked looking down to the ground. Regulus smiled at his five-year-old. He then ran away from him and Regulus flowed him.
"Don't go too far, son!" Regulus called looking around him with a sad smile on his face. His wife had saved him. She saved him from himself and he was glad of that but what if she was still here? What if she didn't save him? Would he still be a heartless Death Eater who only cared about he-who-must-not-be-named. Regulus sighed and ran a hand over his black hair and smiled when his son called out to him.
"Father! I found her. Mum is here!" Archer called. Regulus and Archer did this every Sunday at 8:09 in the morning. That is the time that Elizabeth died, and Archer insisted that they visit her at this time and day. Regulus could not say no to him about this. "Are you coming, father?" Archer called out through the fog that started to form. Regulus smiled to himself again and walked over to his wife's grave.
Regulus woke with a start and beeping. Was he in a hospital? He made it; he was not dead. Confused, Regulus opened his eyes and looked over to see a woman. She was wearing muggle clothes and had red-brown hair. her eyes shined in the light and she had a smile on her face. "Oh, thank goodness you are awake. I was getting worried. Do you remember me?" she asked Regulus who raised an eyebrow.
"You…..you were worried about me? Why I'm a…" Regulus coughed and stopped talking. The woman nodded and smiled a little and walked closer to Regulus's bed and sat down in the chair nearby.
"Yes. I was. Now, what were you doing in that cave? What were those creatures?" she asked Regulus who smacked himself in the face. Regulus realized that he was talking with a muggle and he was brought to a muggle hospital. If his parents found out, they'd murder him. Regulus smiled a little. His parents, his parents work for…..for he-who-must-not-be-named. The man that he was trying to help to destroy. Regulus was not going back but could he change? Could he... "Sir?" the woman cut him off of his thoughts.
"It doesn't matter. I should be dead. I should be dead," he repeated as he hung his head low.
"Well, it matters that you are alive. Now, are you hungry?" Regulus nodded and smiled but he was confused by her kindness. "I'll go get you some food then," she added before she left the room.
Regulus looked down at his wife's grave and then to his son who was playing with his shirt again. He was also rocking on the balls of his feet. "Hello, mother. Father did not eat much," Archer said running his hand over the gravestone. Regulus smiled and got down to his knees.
"Hi, hun. Archer is here too as you can see. Thank you. You saved me and made me see how kind a muggle could be. Thank you so much, Elizabeth," Regulus said putting his hand on the gravestone.
