The Little Girl and the Ottomans

Chapter 14

Kaibaverse:

Everyone besides Jenny is inside the vehicle, heading back towards the mountains they appeared out of. Speaking of the robot, her stretchy arms kept the van close to her. Finally, after hours of just sitting around in this universe, they can get back to their own. They had learned that the effect that the realm gave them before had all vanished from this universe, so there was no need for the devices that kept them sane and in the realms of normal physics.

Jenny noticed the cliff that she and Owen had fallen off while in search of the gang. Her boosters powered down as she gently landed the vehicle. It was cold up here, but nothing that they couldn't handle. Bell seemed worse off than them, but Splat kept her health in check by turning himself into some sort of heater. it was only a matter of time that the guys back home will get the portal up and running, so they can all go back.

Owen was getting impatient, for he worried about Val's safety. Is she doing alright? He hoped he can answer that question soon enough.

Normality:

The gang watched as the engineers and scientists were working as hard as they could to get the portal up and running. They had not anticipated the burst of energy that came from the portal when Soldier pressed the button. Over an hour passes, and the team made little progress. They had forgotten how advanced this portal technology really was. Val was getting worried about her friends, especially her uncle. Them being in another universe makes it impossible for her to track them.

"I don't know why we're still standing here. Don't we have magic that can fix this damn machine!?" Dark interjected from the silence. Everyone gave a look of annoyance at the realization that they could've fixed it the moment that Jenny and Owen flew into the portal. Angel and Val looked at each other and nodded. They approached the machine and placed their hands upon its cold metal. Magic coursed through them as they could hear the wires and metal machinery in the portal begin to repair themselves. The scientists and engineers stared in awe as Val and Angel removed their gaze from the machine and back at them.

"Turn it on," Angel ordered. One of the scientists pressed the big red button that activated the portal and, sure enough, it sprung to life in an instant. The scientists would've questioned it, but decided not to.

Everyone waited patiently, ready for Owen and the rest of the gang to return.

Kaibaverse:

As Jenny listened to some tunes in her head, her sensitive antennae picked up energy waves coming from a few feet away. Everyone else, besides Owen, could feel it as well. She got suspicious as to how the scientists managed to fix the vortex machine but she's glad nonetheless. Everyone grabbed their weapons as the portal opened.

"Finally!" Scout shouted. Jenny smiled as she put Bell on her shoulders. Owen breathed a sigh of relief but felt something was off. This portal isn't the only thing they were expecting today, it seems.

"You feel that?" he asked Jenny. She shook her head no, unaware of what could be coming to them. Was it part of this universe? Or is it...something else? The others could feel it too and held their weapons up as tensions filled the air. Jenny soon joined them, unfolding a large hammer from her wrist that she held on to with her hand. Bell and Splat hid inside the vehicle, hoping it's just them being tense and not the people after her.

A loud, demonic roar proved to her that whatever they were tense about was not one of those fat cats in the upper class. From the sky descended a creature that she did not recognize, but the others knew the instant it touched down.

"A dragon?"

"Not just any dragon, mortals. I am Prevailing Nightmare!" the monster roared. Everyone pointed their weapons at it, to which he smirked at.

"Why are you here!?" Jenny questioned the dragon.

"I'm not here to fight...maybe. I've simply come here because...I need something, and I believe that you are in possession of what I need," Prevailing Nightmare growled.

"We don't got nuthin', yah here?" Engi told him.

"Oh, you do! You just...don't know it yet!" he turned back towards the vehicle. Bell hid under the window as Prevailing Nightmare scanned the vehicle for anything inside. Jenny knew what he wanted instantly, and charged at him. He turned just in time to feel the face of her giant hammer slam into his jaw, sending him into the air.

"YOU'RE NOT TOUCHING HER! NOT ON MY WATCH!?" Jenny screamed. However, the dragon simply shook his head.

"You fail to realize what you're up against, robot. If you wish for your life, I suggest giving that girl to me," he warned her.

"My duty is to protect all the innocent lives on my planet! Even those from other universe are under my protection. If you think I'm just gonna hand her over to you, then your going to regret it," Jenny told him, tightening the grip around her hammer. He let out a puff of smoke as something began to well up inside his throat.

"So be it." In a moment's notice, a torrent of acid bursts from his mouth, heading straight towards her. She boosted down and crashed into the vehicle. Her extendo-arms pulled Bell out of it and she flew out of the acid's way. The acid smothered the vehicle and melted it to the point that it wasn't even there anymore. There was no fixing her if she got caught in the acid, that's for sure.

"ATTACK!" Soldier yelled an order. Everyone began to fire their weapons at the dragon. He dodged with ease, despite his body being as large as the vehicle he just melted. As Jenny fired blasts from her hands, she noticed that nobody else was firing. She looked to her right, only to see everyone having bouts of PTSD. This has never happened to them before. She looked back at the dragon, who had a smirk on his face. He can control memories?

"Everyone, get to the portal, now!" Jenny ordered. Despite the pain, everyone inched their way to the portal while Jenny provided cover fire. Despite her fast reflexes, the dragon proved much faster. She looked down to see everyone had finally gone into the portal. Thinking they were safe, she was about to fly in, but the dragon grabbed her with his tail and threw her to the ground with enough force to cause a crater. She shook her head and stood up, but saw that he was about to let loose another wave of bright yellow acid at her. She prepared to fly away to dodge, but then she noticed orange globs being fired from a few feet away.

She looked over and noticed that Bell had not left! She yelped in surprise and used her boosters to speed to her, grabbing her before Prevailing Nightmare could control her memories, or whatever he did. With Bell in hand, she zipped around in a circle around the dragon and finally entered the portal. Waves of blue and grays flooded her vision as she continued flying through the vortex. She believes that the gang had already made it to the other side, so that's a good thing.

"You're not getting away that easily." She looked up in terror as Prevailing Nightmare was now in front of her, speeding towards her at such a pace only matched by when she was in space. She had no time to react, and he slammed into her. She felt her robotic body go limp, letting go of Bell, as they both went outside the vortex's power. Prevailing Nightmare stopped, somehow not affected by the portal's pull. "Now where did she go to now?"

Normality:

Everyone watched as Scout came out first, followed by Soldier, Demo, Engi, Medic, Sniper, and, finally, Owen. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief as Val jumped into Owen's open arms.

"Are you okay uncle?" Val asked worryingly.

"I'm fine...as much as escaping a dragon that caused the PTSD of me losing you to be much more painful than usual can be, otherwise, I'm fine," Owen responded. Val frowned as Dark escaped from her ring.

"Dragon?"

"It was some sort of dragon, for sure. It was mostly red and black, with white legs that almost made me think of socks, black fire at the end of the tail, and scars covering its body. It said its name was Prevailing Nightmare," Owen explained.

"Why does that name sound familiar?" Rocco asked himself.

"Its' great that you guys got back and all, but where's Jenny?" Quinn asked. The gang looked back at the portal, only to find that it had just closed. Jenny had not returned. Everyone from Val's side of the interdimensional portal gasped in shock, except Dark who only scoffed.

Where is she!?

?:

As her operating systems returned to normal, Jenny found herself in an unfamiliar landscape. It didn't feel like home or even the place they were trying to escape out of for that matter. Bell was beside her, apparently sleeping. She slowly sat up and scanned the area. Instead of a desert or mountains, she found herself in the middle of a forest.

"Bell, get up," Jenny said softly. Bell slowly opened her eyes.

"What...happened?" she asked with a shaky voice.

"I don't know. That dragon must've thrown us out of the portal's reach," Jenny told the girl. Bell got up and stretched as Jenny tried to activate her boosters. They didn't seem to work, which annoyed her greatly. "Dang. Looks like we got to walk from here."

"That's fine. I love a good walk!" Bell told her with a smile. Jenny couldn't help but smile back at her as well. The two began to walk off in a random direction.

"You don't seem scared of this place. I figured you'd be jumping at every little thing," Jenny said to her.

"I've been running all my life. I finally get to rest easy knowing that I'm not hunted anymore," she replied.

"What about that dragon?"

"That's why I got you! You are my best protection mo-" Bell stopped herself in her tracks. She covered her mouth, almost as if she said something that offended Jenny.

"...um...you alright Bell?" Jenny asked as she put a hand on Bell's shoulder. Tears slowly trailed down her cheeks.

"Mom..." Bell felt her legs lose their strength, and she slowly fell to the ground. Jenny suddenly remembered what happened. Bell...she doesn't have parents to come home to. That's why she followed her. Jenny could relate. Her mother was killed by Vexus while her hometown was being destroyed by the Cluster. Jenny got to the same height as her and wrapped her arms around the girl.

"It's okay...you got me now...I'll protect you," the robot said to her, keeping her close. Bell sniffled as Splat emerged to add itself to the hug. The hug was short-lived, however, as the clouds above began to pour rain by the bucketfuls. Jenny knew she had to find shelter quickly, for rust is easier to form on her than most other metals. She grabbed Bell and made a break for a cave nearby. Jenny breathed a sigh of relief. As the rain pelted outside, her scanners suddenly picked up something deeper in the cave.

"Jen?" Bell asked, wondering what was wrong with her.

"Stay here. Make sure Splat knows to protect you," the robot replied. As Splat concealed itself over her, turning the two invisible, Jenny activated her blasters and went deeper into the cave. As she went further down into the cave, her scanners detected a faint glow as well as the sounds of heavy machinery. Something was off, and she continued to head towards the sounds. As she came to the end of the cave, the light had grown larger, similar in intensity to a brightly lit room. She took cover behind a boulder and extended her eyes to get a good look at whatever is producing the light.

What she found shocked her to her very core. A huge cavern had been dug out in this small mountain. Huge lights illuminated the cavern as giant machines scoured the rocks, picking up small crystals and placing them in containers for processing. But what interested her the most are the people inside. Well, they weren't really people. A quick scan showed that they are, in fact, robots. Very advanced robots. Some looked like they had older models while others looked eerily human down to their organs, which seemed to also be made of metal.

Their familiar looks intrigued her. Maybe these people can help her figure out where she and Bell are.

It done now? Alright, good. I hope you enjoyed this chapter. As well, I do not mind if you give me ideas. I already have tons of ideas already, but if you want to see some of your own ideas here, gladly leave it in your review (if you do anyway).

This is a rewrite of the original chapter since I decided that I didn't like its last few paragraphs and wanted to spice things up :)
