I've explained a basic version of what Bonfire Night is within the fic, but you can learn a bit more about it here: bbc co uk / newsround / 15351828
Inspired by the fact I usually watch the should pay to enter local firework display, for free from nearby bridge cos it's a much better view...
Cwtch/Cwtched/Cwtching - It's a Welsh word, here it's meaning a cuddle or hug (but like nicer, cosier and more personal than a hug if that makes any sense?) The word can also mean a small cupboard/cubbyhole
The late autumn night was crisp and cold, just like it should be. The night sky was dark and full of twinkling stars, a sight they rarely saw in Yokohama. But here in the mountains of Wales it was a whole different night. They had been sent on a joint mission to stop and capture a were-dragon, it been a surprisingly quick job, so they'd had a few days to explore Wales and the border towns of England. Chuuya had grumbled when Dazai had dragged them from their nice city hotel and forced them to drive over an hour to a town, almost a village, in the middle of nowhere, to participate in something Dazai had called 'Bonfire Night.'
Dazai had insisted they wrap up warm, so Chuuya was in a wool coat, wearing a scarf, hat and matching gloves that Dazai had knitted for him. Dazai was wearing a similar scarf and pair of gloves, but had chosen a pair of cream fluffy ear muffs instead of a hat.
"So, tell me again what the hell Bonfire Night is all about? Cos so far I'm cold and the air is all smokey" Chuuya whinged
"Says the man who smokes," Dazai laughed
"Oi! I quit smoking, thank you very much."
"Anyway, back in 1605 a man called Guy Fawkes was a part of a plot, the Gunpowder plot, to blow up the houses of Parliament in London, but they were found out before it happened, and they were all executed. So now they celebrate it by building and burning bonfires and setting off fireworks on the fifth of November"
"They celebrate a foiled plot by burning things?" Chuuya asked confused.
Dazai sighed, "This wasn't meant to be a history lesson Chibi, but you always love the fireworks at the festivals, and so many of our best dates have taken place when there were fireworks. The first time we had sex, the first time I said I loved you, the first time you said it back." Dazai smiled, "We'd never get fireworks on our anniversary back in Yokohama and it's nice and quiet here. Once this is over, we can go up the mountain, open the sunroof in the car and turn the heat up really high, and watch the rest of the fireworks all cwtched up and cosy."
"Then why are we on this freezing cold bridge, when we could be in the car?!"
"Because there's a proper display taking place down there, and I've heard this is the best seat."
"The free-est you mean?"
"Hush," Dazai put his arm around Chuuya and pulled him close, "look it's starting."
They watched as the display started, a fizzy gold firework starting the display before exploding in to thousands of tiny stars. Followed by a green and red, almost fountain like explosion in the sky, the following boom made Dazai jump, Chuuya laughed and pulled his boyfriend closer,
"Wuss" Chuuya whispered in his ear, laughing.
"Be glad I left the thermos of hot chocooohhhhlate in the car" Dazai got side-tracked by a pretty firework mid-word. As the night sky filled with a rainbow of colours from both the organised display, and locals setting them off in their own garden Dazai and Chuuya were quiet except for the occasional 'oohs' and 'ahhs'
There was a quiet section as the organisers began preparing for the grand finale, Dazai gave Chuuya a quick kiss, fidgeting out of his grasp.
"This was a really lovely idea Dazai, it's so dark and we can see fireworks from miles around, it's really something special."
"Not as special as you." Dazai smiled, kissing Chuuya.
A whistling bang brought their attention back to the fireworks, in quick succession the whistling bangs flashed green and red up above. Dazai held Chuuya's hand tight, in anticipation of the big finale.
The purple and gold firework exploded in the sky like a giant flower, almost lighting up the surrounding areas. Chuuya turned to kiss Dazai and realised he'd moved.
Dazai was down on one knee, a ring box in hand.
"Marry me?"
Chuuya almost squealed, "Yes."
Two golden fireworks went off behind Chuuya, and Dazai couldn't believe just how beautiful his partner looked, lit up by the fireworks. Chuuya rushed to pull his glove off for Dazai to slip the ring on,
"Ahh cold," Chuuya laughed, as the flat gold band studded with tiny diamonds was slipped onto his finger.
"Thank you for saying yes," Dazai whispered, as Chuuya leant down to kiss him.
"You picked such a beautiful ring, I'm proud of you."
"I'm glad you liked it, I had so many sleepless nights trying to pick that," Dazai laughed.
"Are the fireworks over now?" Chuuya asked, sounding a little disappointed, as he noticed people leaving the display they had been watching.
"They are here, but I was chatting to a local earlier and there's a quiet patch of mountain that we can park up on. We can celebrate our engagement surrounded by the fireworks." Dazai smiled. "Oh and I've got a thermos of hot chocolate and some cookies if you want to warm up first."
"Sounds perfect, love you fiancé," Chuuya placed a light kiss on Dazai's lip,
"Say that again," Dazai smiled
"Fiancé," a kiss, "Fiancé" a kiss, "Fiancé, fiancé, fiancé" Chuuya smiled finishing with a slower kiss, one full of promise, they broke apart.
"Love you to, fiancé." Dazai grinned, taking Chuuya's hand and leading him to the car. The sky still lit up with colourful explosions.
