Lloyd brandished his sword, most of his team behind him. "Zane! Snap out of it!" His hand was shaking. "I don't want to have to fight you."
Zane shook his head, cold and detached. He wiped the corner of his mouth with a handkerchief, and it came away blotched with red. "Fighting will not be necessary. I promise it won't hurt."
"Zane, come on!" Kai pleaded. "What's gotten into you?"
"I found my real potential. The crux of my creation." The ice elemental smiled slowly. "Join me. Cole already has." He looked behind himself, and all the Ninja's eyes followed.
Behind Zane stood Cole, head bowed, thick bangs obscuring his face.
"Cole!" Jay shouted. "You snap out of it too! This isn't funny!"
At the sound of his name, Cole slowly looked up. His eyes were lidded and dark, betraying no recognition. Dark circles rested under his eyes, which were sunken in his face. He looked gaunt and tired, and all he did was stare. For all intents and purposes… he seemed dead.
"Cole!" Jay looked back to Zane, grabbing his nunchucks from his back. "Look, I don't know what you did to him, but undo it! Fix this!"
Zane's smile grew. "I can't do that, Jay."
"Yes you can! Do whatever nindroid magic you can do and change him back!"
"Nothing can stop the transformation to vampirism." Zane smiled toothily at that, unnatural and strange, betraying fangs. "Now… for the rest of you."
He took a step forward, and Cole mimicked him, almost like a puppet. Their former teammates took a step back.
"Come now, don't be shy. It doesn't hurt at all."
