Chapter 2 – Surprise Arrivals

(Third POV)

"Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts!-" Dumbledore's well prepared speech was interrupted as the doors to the great hall were thrown open and all of the students swivelled in their seats to view the new comers.

At the forefront of the small group was a tall man, his shoulder length black hair reminiscent of their new professor, Sirius Black, though parted by large thick obsidian horns. His black eyes had a red ring surrounding the pupils and fangs could be seen jutting from his mouth, resting on his bottom lip. He wore traditional black duelling robes with blood red stitching, and his hand rested on the wand at his hip as he scanned the room quickly.

To his right, just a step behind, was a beautiful woman. She was tall, with long white hair that hung past her hips and seemed to almost shine in the candle-lit hall, and the tips of her pointy ears could be seen within the strands. The blue and silver dress she wore was almost ethereal, with its glimmering beaded detail, flowing skirt and cinched waist. Her arms hung by her sides, seemingly at ease with all the eyes upon them.

Behind them stood two younger females, fingers entwined between them. Both were average height, slim and pretty, though that is where the similarities ended.

The one to the right had long blood red hair, with a slight wave, hanging just below her hips and her smokey grey eyes could be seen observing the students and staff members. She wore tight high waisted, black leather trousers, and a black, skin tight, lace top. Her tail coat was a mix of blood red and a darker red, and she wore heavy, heeled, lace up ankle boots. Her right hand was clasped around a black wooden cane which was ornately crafted with a beautiful metal dragon, which had its mouth open, as if it was about to breathe fire.

To her left, the other woman had long wavy black hair to her waist, and her eyes were a shocking violet, staring boredly out at into the hall. She wore a leather, high waisted, skater skirt which laced at the top and hung to mid-thigh, with a dark green, skin tight, sheer top over a dark green bra and a body harness encasing her torso. Her own tail coat was a dark forest green and she wore knee high, leather boots with a stiletto heel which laced up the front. Her left hand rested on her waist where another harness sat, filled with small potions vials and what appeared to be a dagger of some kind.

Dumbledore stared, open-mouthed, confused. He recognised the older two of the group but he couldn't put his finger on where from, that is, until he heard Sirius.

"Reg…" The new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher gasped out brokenly.

"Hello Sirius, Hogwarts." The small group strolled through the middle of the halls, the students staring in awe.

Dumbledore looked between Sirius and the newcomers, frowning. "No, you can't be Regulus Black. He was killed sixteen years ago by Voldemort." The students visibly flinched at the name, but the new comers stared back impassively.

"No Dumbledore, my wife and I went into hiding after Xanthia fell pregnant. We protected our daughters from the war." The man, now identified as Regulus Black, explained, then he handed Dumbledore a letter.

"What is this?" Dumbledore held back as much derision as he could, remembering where they were. He opened the envelope without an answer, after seeing the ministry seal holding it closed. His face blanched as he read, and anger flashed in his eye, seen only by the group in front of him. He nodded and then addressed the school as Regulus and the others moved to the side. "Combat Master Regulus Black is to join our teaching staff as a hand-to-hand combat instructor for students in fourth year and above. His wife, Healer Xanthia Black, will join him on staff as a second healer alongside Madame Pomfrey. These are their daughters Ariadnae and Redina Black, whom will be joining us in their fifth year."

The twins nodded towards the staff table before confidently sauntering over to the Slytherin table.

"Sorry Miss's Black, the sorting hat must sort you into a house before you sit." Dumbledore spoke as the girls were about to sit down. They turned as one before speaking for the first time.

"We don't need an inanimate object to sort us. We know where we belong, thank you Headmaster." Redina flicked her long red hair over her shoulder.

"I'm sorry Miss Black but that is not how this works." Dumbledore tried to explain but he was swiftly interrupted by the sorting hat.

"SLYTHERIN!" The hat was met with confused glances. "Please don't put me on their heads."

The girls smirked as they turned back to sit, their mother laughing at the head table as their father smirked.

At the Slytherin table the girls sat, swishing their tailcoats to avoid sitting on them. Around them their fellow Slytherin's watched, they were confused but they were Slytherin's, so their masks remained in place.

"Black, what makes you think you're welcome in Slytherin?" A haughty voice questioned them. Redina and Ariadnae turned to look at him and simultaneously raised an eyebrow.

"I do believe your precious sorting hat just put us here, did it not Malfoy?" Ariadnae pointed out, tucking her black hair behind her ear.

"It didn't even touch your head!" A girl, with an annoying nasally voice, spoke from beside Malfoy.

"And you are?" Redina asked, starting to fill her plate with the food that appeared on the table.

"Pansy Parkinson." The girl replied haughtily, sticking her nose up in the air.

"Maybe we are Slytherin enough that it could tell where we belong from here?" Redina shrugged as she started eating.

Malfoy snorted, before being cut off by another student.

"It's a pleasure to meet you both Miss's Blacks, my name is Blaise Zabini." The boy held out his hand to Redina, placing a kiss upon her own when she accepted the offer.

"The pleasure is all mine, Mr Zabini, I have heard much about you." Zabini's mask flickered for a second before settling into a smirk at Redina's reply.

The rest of the meal passed in relative silence, the whole hall wondering what to make of the new additions to the school.
