Prologue

The Machine

Two years After Sonic left the future

After Sonic had left Tails' time, nothing had changed. As such, everyone had concluded that he had created a new timeline when he had left.

This fact had fascinated Tails to no end. This and the revelation that Chaos Control could be used to travel through time in the first place.

As such, he was now working on a time machine, one that would allow him to not only go to the past, but also go to other timelines.

This project was taking up a lot of his time, and would be difficult to complete on his own, as such, he was having Knuckles help, with the use of energy from the Master Emerald, the time stones, as well as Silver's knowledge of time travel.

So here they were, the three of them, along with Tangle and Skye, as Tails was putting the finishing touches onto the machine.

"Aaaaand… THERE!" Tails said. "That should just about do it!"

"You really think this will work?" Tangle asked. "I mean, time travel is one thing, but choosing a specific timeline…"

"Well, it will probably take some trial and error, but we should get the right timeline at some point." Tails said.

"If it was just this timeline, it would be easy. I've done it plenty of times." Silver said. "But picking out another one… some trial and error is going to be an understatement."

"Well, it's a good thing that we are going to test this first." Tails said.

"Right, and if something goes wrong, we just have to take these things off, right?" Tangle asked, holding a bracelet in her hand. "And we will just come home?"

"Pretty much. Of course, you have to be close to mine for the lock to be disengaged, and for mine you need to be either nearby, or already came back here, but that's the gist of it!" Tails said.

"Ok… and that is because?" Tangle asked.

"In case we get separated, so we know if one of us comes back without the other." Tails explained. "We should be fine though, it's not like we can't handle Eggman when we are together."

"True."

"Where are they going?" Skye asked Knuckles.

"Well, if it all goes well, they are going to go and see your Uncle!" Knuckles responded.

"REALLY?!" Skye said a little too excitingly.

He then did something Knuckles didn't count on, and grabbed one of the spare bracelets before running towards his parents.

"So… you ready?" Tails asked.

"Ready!" Tangle said as she put the bracelet on her arm and took Tails' hand.

Just as the two were about to step into the time machine, they felt something disconnect their linked hands. Looking down, Tails saw Skye grinning up at him.

"Wha-" Tails said as everything faded to white.

"… That can't be good…"

"Hey! Are you alright?" Said a voice that Tails didn't recognize.

"Ugh… anyone get the number of that truck?" Tails mumbled to himself.

"Can you hear me? What happened to you?" The voice said again.

"Hold on… give me a second." Tails said as he picked himself up and rubbed his head.

Eventually, his vision cleared enough for him to get a good look around.

"A forest huh? Don't think I recognize it…" Tails said to himself.

"Uh… right… Are you alright?" The voice said.

"Oh, right, sorry. Yeah, I should be fine Ms…" Tails said as he turned around and got a good look at the owner of the voice… and he had absolutely no idea who she was.

"…Tails? Is that you?"

End of Prologue

And so it begins… time travel is fun, right?

Don't worry, I will try to not make this too confusing.

Anyways, just who is this mysterious person that seems to know Tails? Where is Tails anyways? When is he? And what happened to Tangle and Skye? All of this will be answered in the next chapter… though I am willing to bet you can figure out just who this is if you think about it hard enough. I did try to keep it a mystery, so who knows.

So, I want to talk about how posting this story, as well as the Post Game to Reconnecting With the Team is going to go. I am going to post one chapter of either story each week on Saturdays, this way I can have plenty of time to get chapters written out without long gaps between them. Which story will be updated, I don't know, but I will try to go back and forth each week. If I feel comfortable enough though, I may bump it up to updating each story once a week, one on Saturday and one on Sunday, or I might do daily updates when I finish writing one of them, which this story is getting there at this point, only two chapters left to draft out. The reason I want to do both stories at once is because they are closely connected to each other… obviously. So, that's how it is gonna go.
