Chapter 1:

Unfamiliar Faces

New Mobotropolis, half an hour ago

"Yo Sal! You said there was something you wanted to talk to us about?" Sonic said as he and Tails walked into the new Freedom HQ.

The chipmunk in the center of the room, Sally Acorn, turned around and smiled at the hedgehog and fox.

"Yes, perhaps Nicole should explain though." Sally said.

"Well Sonic," The Lynx, named Nicole, said. "I picked up some really weird energy signals recently."

"Ok…? And this is important because?" Sonic asked.

"We don't know if it is important quite yet." Sally explained. "That is what I want to find out."

"We want the two of you to go and investigate the one that is further away, while Sally investigates the closer one." Nicole explained.

"Ok, and the reason we can't go after both?" Sonic asked.

"The one farther away is pretty close to Eggman's base…" Sally explained.

"Gotcha, you want us to find out whatever this is and get out before he finds it." Sonic deduced.

"That shouldn't be too much trouble." Tails said.

"Right, get to it you two!" Sally said. "Also, your top priority is information. Please try to not get into any fights. We can't afford to take any risks over what could very well be nothing."

"Got it, go in, find out what it is, possibly grab it, and get out." Sonic said. "Piece of cake!"

"See you soon Sally!" Tails said as the two left the room.

"Right, and I should probably get going too." Sally said.

"Good luck Sally." Nicole said with a wave as Sally left as well.

Current time

"Tails? Is that you?" Sally asked the suddenly much larger, and not with Sonic, Tails.

"Uh… yeah? Have we met before?" Tails asked.

"What…? What happened to you?!" She asked.

"Hold on, how do you know me?" Tails asked. "And who are you anyways?"

"It's me, Sally! You know, leader of the Freedom Fighters… helped raise you when you parents disappeared…?"

"Wait what? Freedom Fighters? What are you talking about? There isn't anyone called that in… oh… ok, I think I may of messed up a bit…" Tails said while rubbing his temples.

"What do you mean?" Sally asked.

"Well, I created a time machine that was supposed to take me back in time about fifteen years, and even to a different timeline… but I guess I went to the wrong timeline…" Tails explained. "So sorry about the confusion, I'll just take my family and…"

That was when he noticed what, or rather, who, was missing.

"Skye? Tangle?" Tails said, growing increasingly worried. "Uh… you wouldn't of happened to see another two tailed fox and a lemur around here, would you?"

Sally, still trying to get a grasp of what was happening, took a moment to respond.

"Uh, well, a two tailed fox, yeah… but that would be well… you, I guess." Sally said. "I'm sorry, but I have no idea where, or even who, the two you are looking for are."

"Great… we must of gotten split up… probably since Skye disconnected our hands…" Tails said.

"Who…?"

"My wife and son."

"W-W-W-W-W-W" Sally stuttered out, which caused Tails to laugh.

"You know, last time I saw Sonic, he had the same reaction." Tails said.

"L-Last time you saw him? What are you…?"

"I'll explain later if you want, but right now, I need to find my family." Tails said.

"Ok… well why don't you come with me? We can get the whole team on it. Including our Sonic and Tails." Sally said.

After a moment of thought, Tails gave his answer. "Yeah, that's probably a good idea, the more people looking, the better."

"On the way, we can fill each other in on what is different about our worlds." Sally said. "I have to admit, I am really curious."

"Of course, now, lead the way!" Tails said before Sally began leading him.

Meanwhile

Tangle and Skye were currently asleep on the ground. That is, until Tangle was woken up by the sound of footsteps.

"Ugh… Tails… is that you?" Tangle asked. When she opened her eyes, she did not like what she was seeing.

Robots, and lots of them. All armed, and looking like they were ready to kill.

"Uh oh…" Tangle said before she quickly leapt at Skye, grabbing him, and running into the nearby greenery as the robots began to shoot at them.

"Hmmm… Mommy?" Skye said as he began to wake up.

"Hold on Skye! Mommy is getting you out of here!" Tangle said.

"Where's daddy?"

"Don't know!" Tangle said.

At this point, she ran out of forest, and she didn't like what she saw.

Once again, there was an army of robots, and they seemed to be looking for them.

"Great… what do we do here…?"

Normally, Tangle would be all for a good scrap with an army of robots, but with Skye there, she didn't want to take any risks. As such, she came to a decision.

Putting Skye down, she began to whisper.

"Listen Skye, mommy is going to get these robots away from here. When the coast is clear, I want you to run. Find some help, someone that can find any of our friends… hopefully the machine worked and your Uncle is here. Say you want to find him, Ok?"

"Ok Mommy." Skye said while nodding his head.

Tangle then pulled her son into a hug. "I love you."

"I love you too mommy, see you soon!" Skye said before hiding in a nearby bush.

Tangle smiled, before leaping out into the open.

"HEY BOLTS FOR BRAINS! LOOKING FOR ME?!" Tangle shouted before running back into the forest, with the robots following.

When the coast was clear, Skye ran out as he was told. It wasn't long though before he heard the sounds of a fight coming from the forest. He may of been young, but he knew what that meant.

They caught her.

His eyes tearing up, he did the one thing he could think of, and ran.

Slightly earlier, nearby

"Ok, so Eggman clearly noticed it too…" Sonic said as he observed the Swat Bots searching the area.

"Whatever that energy reading was, Eggman obviously wants to find it… but what was it?" Tails asked.

"Well, we aren't going to find out by just sitting here. So let's take a look around." Sonic said before the two of them began sneaking around.

After a while, the two began to hear signs of a fight, and all of the robots began running towards the noise.

"Great, sounds like they found it…" Sonic said. "We should go and help!"

"Hold on Sonic, you remember what Sally said, we should try and get some information first before we jump in. Besides, I don't think we can take this many robots on our own…" Tails said.

Sonic sighed. His brother was right. Normally he would be fine with taking out a bunch of Swat Bots, but this many while potentially having to protect someone? That would not go well at all.

"As much as I hate to say it… you're probably right." Sonic said. "I just hope whoever they are fighting is going to be alright."

"Well, let's head over there, maybe we can do something without fighting… but we need to be careful and stay hidden."

"Got it, let's move." Sonic said before they began moving.

After a while, they arrived at the battleground, however, it seemed that they were too late, as all the robots, and whatever they were fighting, were gone.

Accepting their failure, the two quickly made their way out of the forest back to the city.

"I hope Sally had better luck…" Tails said.

"I'm sure she did. What I am hoping is that whatever she found will explain what we were supposed to find…" Sonic said.

"Yeah, that would be great." Tails said.

Suddenly Sonic stopped. "Still… whatever it is that we were supposed to find, Eggman has it now…" Sonic said.

"… You want to try and rescue it, right?" Tails asked.

"Well duh! Of course I do!" Sonic said.

"Well, we should get home and come up with a plan before anything." Tails said.

"Right, let's get mo-" Sonic started.

Suddenly, the two felt something hugging them from behind.

"DADDY! UNCLE SONIC!"

The two of them turned around to see what was hugging them, and they could not believe what they were seeing.

A small, yellow, two tailed fox, that looked almost exactly like Tails when he was younger…

Wait, what did this kid call them?!

"Uhhhhhhh…" The two of them said in unison.

Skye just tilted his head, looking very confused by his family's reaction.

"WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

Back with Sally and the older Tails

"Ok, so in your world, Sonic disappeared because he time traveled, and you decided to try and travel to the timeline that he created when he went back?" Sally asked.

"Yeah, that about sums it up." Tails said.

"And in those fifteen years that Sonic was gone, you got married to a girl named Tangle, and had a son named Skye." Sally continued.

"Yup, cute little guy." Tails said.

"I'm sure." Sally said. "I'm sorry, it's just… really hard to believe that you really are Tails… you're just so different from him."

"I can imagine, I AM fifteen years older than your Tails." Tails said. "Still, if it makes things easier for you, you can call me Miles."

"Ok then, Miles, I do have one more question for you." Sally said as she pointed to the bracelet on Miles' arm. "What is that on your arm?"

"This is a Spacial Armband, it basically is what is keeping me anchored in this timeline. If I take it off, it will return me to my own time." Miles said. "Basically, it's there in case something goes wrong, and as a way to get home."

"And… something went wrong." Sally said.

"Yeah."

"So… shouldn't you take it off?" Sally asked.

"Can't. The lock won't disengage unless I am close to the others… and theirs won't disengage unless they are close to mine…" Miles said, realizing that he probably made a big mistake with that idea.

"Can't you just break it?" Sally asked.

"Well, first of all, the only one who is actually strong enough to break it is Knuckles… and second, I would probably be stranding my family here if I did that." Miles explained

"Gotcha." Sally said before stopping. "Well, here we are! Welcome to New Mobotropolis!"

"AAAAAAAAAAT?!"

"Uh… daddy? Uncle Sonic? Are you ok?" Skye asked.

"Hold on! Who are you?! And why are you calling us… that?!" Sonic asked quite frantically.

"It's me, Skye… and I am calling you that cause you're my daddy" He said as he pointed to Tails. "And my Uncle Sonic." He finished as he pointed to Sonic.

"Tails… is there something you aren't telling me?" Sonic asked.

"No! I- I never saw this kid before in my life! I swear!" Tails said quite frantically.

"Wha-" Skye said as his eyes began to water. "What do you mean?"

Realizing that Tails' word choice probably wasn't the best, he decided to try and get the kid to calm down.

"Listen Skye, things are a little confusing to us right now. Can you help us by telling us how you got here?" Tails asked.

"Ok… well… you were making that machine on Angel Island. Mr. Knuckles told me that it would let us see Uncle Sonic again, and you were about to test it with Mommy, but I wanted to come too. So I did. Then, me and Mommy were chased by robots… mommy was going distract them but…" Skye then started crying again. "They… they caught her."

"Hey, hey! Listen kid, you're doing great. You gotta be strong here! Now, what kind of machine was your dad making?" Sonic asked.

"Uh… a time machine." Skye answered between sniffs.

Oh… that explained a lot.

"Ok, so… I guess that would mean that… you're Tails' son from the future?" Sonic asked.

"That would make the most sense…" Tails said, a bit in disbelief. "This might also explain what that energy reading was."

"Yeah, a couple of time travelers." Sonic concluded. "If I were to guess, I would say that the energy reading that Sal went to look at was his father."

"So… we should probably take him home. His father must be worried sick… and he would probably want to know that Eggman has his wife…" Tails said.

"Well then, this is going to be interesting…" Sonic said. "First things first though. Skye was it?"

"Yeah?"

"We are not the Daddy and Uncle Sonic that you know, we are a lot younger than them, so we honestly didn't know you until now." Sonic said. "But don't worry, we have a good idea where your Daddy is, and we will take you to him, ok?"

"Ok…" Skye said before leaping onto Tails' back… which caused the young fox to fall to the ground from the added weight.

"Skye… I am not as strong as your dad." Tails said.

"Oh… sorry." Skye said before getting off Tails' back.

End of Chapter 1

I left you all on a slight cliffhanger last time, so I decided that I will post this chapter this week. Next is going to be a Reconnecting postgame chapter though, so look forward to that!

Anyways, yup, IDW and Archie crossover! Who woulda thought? I will update the important character thing once I get home from work tonight to reflect this, I just didn't want to spoil the surprise.

In case you can't tell by now, the Older Tails is going to be referred to as Miles for the most part from now on, while the younger one is going to stay Tails. This should prevent some confusion.
