Chapter 2

Meetings

"New Mobotropolis?" Miles asked. He had never heard of this city before.

"Mobotropolis used to be the the capital of the Acorn Empire, but then Robotnik took over, so we eventually relocated here." Sally explained.

"Wait… he took over? As in, he had complete control over the empire?" Miles asked.

"Yeah, me and my friends barely made it out alive…" Sally said. "Worst of all was our Tails…"

This made Miles very curious. "What happened to your Tails?"

"Well… Robotnik's takeover pretty much started the day he was born… and his parents were the first victims of his roboticizer…"

"Roboticizer?" Miles asked.

"Wow, your world is really different from ours… it basically turns Mobians into robots." Sally explained. "I… experienced that first hand for a while…"

"Oh, I'm sorry if I brought back some bad memories." Miles said.

"It's fine… it's all in the past now. Back to our Tails though… it took us years to find his parents, he was eleven at the time." Sally explained.

"Eleven?!" Miles asked. "How old is he now?"

"He turned twelve over half a year ago. Why?" Sally asked.

"Ok… We got the year right at least…"

'Oh… he was making sure the time machine worked.'

"Aren't you surprised that he went so long without his parents?" Sally asked.

"Well, I still haven't really met my parents, so no, not really." Miles responded.

"Wait, really? What happened to them?" Sally asked.

"Who knows? Maybe they were killed, maybe they abandoned me when they saw that I had two tails. I honestly don't care." He lied. He knew perfectly well what the truth was. "Since I met Sonic though, I have had all the family I ever needed." Miles explained.

"Oh, well at least you are as close to your Sonic as our Tails is to our Sonic." Sally said.

"Yeah…" Miles said.

It didn't take long for Sally to realize that Miles still missed his Sonic.

"Hey, you'll see our Sonic soon enough, right? I am sure he will be happy to hear all about what you have done in your timeline." Sally said. "Also, we just sent him and our Tails to check out a similar energy signature to what you created when you came here, so maybe he's with your family already!"

"Yeah… oh gosh they would probably flip when they meet Skye…" Miles said with a laugh.

"You're probably right." Sally said, joining in. "Anyways, we should probably head inside."

As the two walked up to the wall surrounding the city, a lynx suddenly appears before them, much to Miles' surprise.

"Welcome back Sally and… Tails?" Nicole said, confused about Tails' presence and appearance.

"Hey Nicole, I'll explain later. Can you call everyone so we can have a meeting?" Sally asked Nicole.

"Sure Sally, I will do that right away." Nicole said before opening the way into the city and disappearing.

"So… who was that?" Miles asked.

"Nicole, she's one of my closest friends." Sally explained.

"Ok… but what about the whole disappearing and re-appearing thing?" Miles asked.

"Oh, that's because she's an AI… though, nowadays I would say she's more Mobian than computer." Sally explained.

"Really now? Must be some really advanced tech!" Miles said, excited to learn all about the technology in this timeline.

"Well, she does pretty much control everything in this city." Sally explained. "Speaking of, come on, I will show you around."

Meanwhile, Sonic and Tails were getting to know a bit more about Skye.

"So, what is your mom's name anyways?" Tails asked, legitimately curious.

"Mommy." Skye responded.

"Of course it is…" Tails sighed as Sonic chuckled.

"Sorry bud, guess you're not going to find out who your future wife is that easily." Sonic said as he pat Tails' shoulder. "But speaking of…"

"You want to know if you end up marrying Sally… don't you?" Tails asked.

"Oh come on! Don't tell me you're not curious!" Sonic said.

"Uh… Who's Sally?" Skye asked.

This caught the two off guard. How did he not know who Sally is?

"Say, did your father ever mention something about the Freedom Fighters?" Sonic asked.

"Freedom… Fighters?… Oh! Daddy did mention something about something called 'The Resistance.'" Skye said.

"Close enough." Sonic said. "Well, Sally is the leader of The Resistance."

"No she isn't, Mr. Knuckles was the leader, then Ms. Amy took over after the war." Skye said.

As soon as those words left Skye's mouth, Sonic couldn't help himself, as he fell to the floor laughing hysterically.

"KNUCKLES?! LEADING?! Oh man! That's a good one! Tails, you really tell your kid some good jokes in the future!" Sonic said as he wiped a tear from his eye.

"Uh… Sonic? I don't think that's a joke…" Tails said as he looked at Skye's confused face.

"What makes you say that?" Sonic asked.

"Well, think about it! He doesn't know who Sally is, he got the wrong name for the Freedom Fighters, and now Knuckles is apparently our leader?" Tails said. "It's just a hunch… but maybe he is from a different timeline all together!"

"Hmmm… that would make sense… I think…" Sonic says. "Maybe we should ask Silver when we get back."

"Mr. Silver is here? He helped with the time machine!" Skye said happily.

"Yeah, we should probably ask Silver." Tails concluded.

At that moment, Sonic's communicator began ringing. He quickly answered it.

"Nicole? What's up?" Sonic asked.

"Hey Sonic, Sally just returned and asked me to call everyone for a meeting. Just so you know when you return." Nicole explained.

"Yeah… if this meeting is about what I think it is, then we should probably be there…" Sonic said.

"By the way… is Tails there with you?" Nicole asked.

"Yeah… Why?" Sonic asked.

"That's weird, Sally just came back with him, yet he's with you… which means…" Nicole began connecting the dots… but Sonic was sure they were the wrong dots.

"Say Nicole, did this Tails seem… taller to you by any chance?" Sonic asked.

"Now that you mention it… yeah, he did. Why do you ask?" Nicole asked.

"Ok, you're going to have to trust me on this, but that is actually Tails… just, not how you know him. Just hang tight, and we will explain everything when we get home." Sonic said.

"Very well. Does this have something to do with the energy signals that you three were tracking?" Nicole asked.

"It has everything do do with it…" Sonic said.

"Very well then. I will await your arrival." Nicole said before hanging up.

"So good news, your dad is with our friend, Skye." Sonic said.

This news made the smaller fox really giddy, as he began bouncing in place.

"We better hurry then." Tails said as the trio began walking again.

"You know, we could go quicker if you two would start flying." Sonic said.

"Oh yeah, then we would be able to keep up with you a bit, huh?" Tails said.

"Uh… I can't fly yet…" Skye said.

"Really? Why not?" Sonic asked.

"Daddy didn't teach me yet… he wanted me to get good at the other tail thing first." Skye explained.

"Other tail thing? And that is…?" Sonic asked.

Skye then started looking around, eventually, he spotted an apple in a nearby tree.

Suddenly, one of his tails stretched out tremendously, and, instead of grabbing the apple, it collided with the tree trunk and broke it.

"WHOA!" Sonic shouted.

"Daddy says I got it from mommy… I'm still not as good at it as her though." Skye explained.

"Yeah, your aim was a little off… but that power…" Tails said, marveling at the sheer power that this little kid had.

Skye just smiled. "I knocked out the bad bald man one time. Daddy and Uncle Sonic were proud of me!"

"Wait… you don't mean Eggman, do you?" Sonic asked, trying to hold back his laughter.

"Yeah! That's his name!" Skye said.

And so, Sonic and Tails both began laughing hysterically, much to Skye's confusion.

Back with Sally and Miles, the two went to Freedom HQ, and were currently filling in the rest of the freedom fighters on what was happening.

"So, this Tails here is from the future, and an alternate timeline, and he just needs to find his family before he can go home?" The half bunny, half robot, aptly named Bunnie, asked.

"That about sums it up, yeah." Miles responded. "And please, just call me Miles, it will avoid a lot of confusion…"

"Sacré bleu…" Said the Coyote named Antoine.

"So… how are we going to explain this to Tails?" Asked the familiar voice of Silver.

"Well, if my hunch is correct, we won't have to. I'm hoping that the other energy signal we sent him and Sonic to investigate was the rest of his family." Sally explained.

"Oh great… if he meets this Tails'… I mean, Miles' wife, that could be trouble…" Silver said.

"What do you mean?" Miles asked.

"Well, it could completely alter history!" Silver explained.

"You mean like you were trying to do?" Sally asked.

"Hey, I had really good reason to do that…" Silver explained. "Eeeeven if I messed it up… a lot… but hey! I ended up right in the end… right?"

"Yeah, yeah, I owe you a lot Silver, thanks." Sally said.

"Anyways… back to the topic at hand, it probably wouldn't of changed much if you went where you were planning on going, since it was still kinda your past, but this is a completely different timeline, with completely different people." Silver explained. "If Tails were to meet your wife, it could possibly make him hook up with someone completely different from who he is supposed to in this timeline."

"Right… and I don't even see Tangle around here, so she might not even exist in this timeline…" Miles said.

"So Tangle's her name?" Bunnie asked.

"Yeah, but maybe we should keep that a secret from your Tails after all…" Miles said.

"Well, bad news is that when I talked to Sonic earlier, he seemed to know what was happening… so it might be too late already…" Nicole explained.

"Welp, there goes that…" Silver said.

"There goes what?" Asked a voice from the doorway.

"Oh! There you are So-" Sally started.

"DADDY!" Said another voice as Skye began charging towards Miles.

"Hey! There you are, thank goodness you're safe." Miles said as he pulled his son into a hug. After a moment, he took a look around and noticed that something… or rather, someone was missing. "Wait… where's your mom?"

And Skye froze. Then he began crying.

"Well… I hate to be the bearer of bad news… but we think Eggman has her."

Sorry this took so long to come out, next chapter will still come Saturday :)

And so, everyone is finally together… well, almost everyone.

TBH, I am probs gonna stop describing what happens in the chapters from now on… kinda feels redundant now…
