Courtney, Gwen, Cecily and Heather are at the midnight movie premiere, watching a scene of Screamo Therapy II.
"I feel so stupid." Ava says, holding Alex's hand on the hospital bed. "From the day we met, we both knew that this would happen."
"Ava…" Alex says weakly from his hospital bed, bags in his eyes.
"You warned me that our time was limited. I knew there was only one possible ending to this story." She begins to cry as she speaks. Alex stays calm throughout their conversation.
"What a story it was, though, right?"
"I thought I was smart to keep you at arm's length, that it would protect me from feeling so devastated when you left." She begins to cry harder as she strokes his cheek, though Alex continues to stay calm. "But now that we're here, I know how wrong I was, all the time I wasted, pushing you away…"
The movie cuts to a shadowed silhouette of them, where Ava's arm is stretched out in front of Alex.
"Maybe there was only one ending to this story, but there were a thousand possible middles. I will never forgive myself for the one that I chose." Ava says to him.
Courtney begins to cry real tears, angry and confused as she makes the correlation to the movie and real life.
