A/N: So this is super short BUT. This is really important for the future chapters :) Read and Review!

"Laurens!" Martha Manning called.

"Oh, hey," I said as I rolled my eyes.

"Laurens? Are you over your phase yet?" Martha asked innocently.

"Martha. We dated in South Carolina for a while, I know. We broke up because I'm gay. This isn't a phase! Just leave me alone, Martha."

"No! This is just a phase and I told you that I would be here for you when you got over it," she crossed her arms.

"Yes, I remember that. Give up, already! I am gay and you can't change that," I said when an idea popped into my head. I pulled my phone out and started to text Alex.

TurtleBoi: Lexi I need your help

NonStopHamMan: with what

TurtleBoi: can you come to the courtyard?

NonStopHamMan: sure?

TurtleBoi: can you get here quickly? I need your help rn

NonStopHamMan: geez fine

TurtleBoi: also please go along with what I say I'll explain later sorry it might be really weird

"Who were you texting?" Martha placed her hands on her hips.

I quickly changed my contact for Alex "Babe" with a couple of hearts around it. "My boyfriend, Martha." I showed her the contact.

"Oh sure, and who is it?"

"Oh look, there he is!" I waved to Alex. He had his computer bag slung over his shoulder, hair in his normal ponytail which swayed ever so slightly as he waved back.

"Hey," he said, nodding towards Martha's direction.

"Hey, babe," I said as casually as possible as I wrapped an arm around Alex. He tensed for a second before playing along.

"Hey, yourself," he said as he returned the hug.

"Martha, meet my boyfriend: Alexander Hamilton," I said tightening the hug.

"So you two are dating?" Martha narrowed her eyes, obviously not buying it.

"Yes we are, are you jeaaaaalouuuuuus?" Alex drawled. He was a good actor.

"Oh yeah? I know you guys are only friends. Friends do other friends favors like these all the time. Prove you guys are dating." Martha rolled her wrist to add emphasis.

"Oh, do friends do this?" And with that, Alex placed his lips on mine quickly but lingering there a little longer than I would expect. When he pulled away he said, "Just friends?"

"Whatever. Just remember our deal, Laurens," she said before walking away.

"What deal? And please explain what that was about," Alex demanded, pulling away from the hug as soon as she was out of earshot.

"I'm sorry, she and I dated back in South Carolina three years ago and she isn't over it, I guess… she said she would always be here for me once I come to my senses or something like that. So I needed you to, obviously, pretend to be my boyfriend. Sorry about that," I said as I stared at my feet.

"Listen, as she said, friends do favors for other friends. It's fine," Alex chuckled as he pat my shoulder.

Alex POV

No doubt about it I was mad yet happy at the same time. I felt used just so Laurens could get away from his ex. Although… I did get to kiss him. Wait. "Why did you ask me?" I asked. He tensed.

"You're my closest friend." He said plainly with a shrug. I'M his closest friend?

"Yeah," he said.

Silence.

"I gotta go meet my sister in the library right now, see you later, Lexi," Laurens said.

"I hate you," I said.

"I hate you toooooo!" He said as he walked away in a sing-song voice.
