WARNING: Underage alcohol consumption


John POV

I snuck out to Alex's house to go to the Schuyler new year's Eve party.

"Laurens! Hop in the car!" Martha said, joyfully.

"Hey, Laurens," Alex said. He never mentioned our kiss from Christmas Eve or when we cuddled together that night.

"Hi, Alex." Alex is trustworthy enough for this. I'm going to tell him I'm gay. I'm going to tell him... Tonight.

We drove to the Schuylers house again and went through the same thing that happened at Christmastime. This time… Martha Manning brought something.

I saw her put that something in the special punch. No doubt about it that it was alcohol. I grabbed water instead.

I turned around and almost ran into Alex. "Oh! Sorry, Alex!" I said, maneuvering my way around him.

"No, it's fine!" He called. That was too fricken awkward. I thought. I covered my flushed face in my hands.

I watched on their flat-screen TV the ten seconds being counted down. Peggy started to count down when everyone else joined in. "10… 9… 8… 7… 6… 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… HAPPY NEW YEAR!" We all shouted, laughing at once. Everyone started to find a partner to kiss for the new year. I frantically avoided being kissed, because the only person I wanted to kiss avoided kissing me under the mistletoe.

Alex POV

I watched as Maria and Eliza looked at each other, blushing as they pecked each other on the lips. Peggy and Laf ran around hugging everyone. Thomas and James gave each other a peck on the cheek (I still think they have a secret relationship). Aaron and Theodosia kissed each other on the lips. Finally, I thought. I saw Angelica talking with the adults in the kitchen. Seems about right for her. Besides, she is asexual.

I turned and saw Laurens hugging Peggy. As he turned around to face me, I felt someone bump into me and I fell on Laurens, somehow locking lips with him as he broke my fall. I stared at him wide-eyed as I broke the kiss, blushing profusely. He blushed profusely with me, eyes also wide. I turned around and saw Eliza next to me. She gave me a look saying, "You know you'll thank me for this," as I glared at her.

John POV

Alex kissed me. On New Year's. My mind is blown. I walked around the place for a bit after that saying "Happy New Year!" to anyone who walked past me. I watched Alex pick up a cup of the spiked punch. Before I could stop him, he had drunk it. Peggy pulled me off to the side to talk. I don't know how many drinks Alex had, but after another half hour, he was obviously drunk like the rest of our friends. Everyone except for me and James were drunk.

I peeked over my shoulder and saw Peggy run out the door carrying her skateboard with Lafayette trailing behind. I shook my head in annoyance. As I looked back up I saw Eliza and Maria in a passionate lip-lock while Aaron and Theodosia cuddling, asleep on the couch. James and I were having a conversation when Alex and Thomas came by, both upset over their argument. Thomas grabbed James's arm and pulled him away from me. Thomas is probably jealous, I thought with a chuckle. That's when Alex sat next to me where James just was. Alex looked at me with puppy dog eyes. Shit. He's too cute, even though he's drunk.

"Laurens?" He asked.

"Yeah?" Just then, Martha pulled us aside.

"Boys, someone had spiked the punch here… oh no, Alex… did you drink the punch?" She looked at a very drunk Alex.

"What *hic* punch?" Alex shrugged, staring at nothing.

"Alex, Laurens, were going to go now," Martha said as George caught up with us, hiccuping on his way. Aaaand he's drunk too. I helped Martha bring Alex and George to the car. Martha drove as I helped Alex not puke. Thank God George had been drunk before and was good at holding his liquor.

We arrived at their house quickly as we brought the two drunks inside. "Can you take care of Alex, please? I will take care of George." Martha said.

"Of course, Martha," I said, holding Alex's arm to help steady him as he tried to walk up the stairs.

I helped Alex sit in his swivel chair as I changed my dress shirt into a plain black hoodie.

I flopped on Alex's bed, taking my phone out.

TurtleBoi: mar I'm helping Martha with Alex and George

TurtleBoi: someone spiked the punch at the party and Alex and George are drunk

Marmar: okay just stay safe

TurtleBoi: thank you

I turned my phone off just in time to see and hear Alex making weird gagging noises. "Aah, Alex…" I said as I helped him stand up as I guided him to his bathroom. He barely made it in there when he dropped to his knees and started puking into the toilet. I stayed by his side, holding his stray hairs back.

"Shh, Alex…" I soothed as he regurgitated some more.

After some time, Alex said that he didn't feel like throwing up anymore. I helped him stand up and brought him to his swivel chair. I set a wastebasket next to him if he needed to empty his stomach again. I flopped on the bed once more and sighed. I closed my eyes and thought about our kiss earlier. That was before Alex got drunk… I felt someone lay down next to me.

"Laurens…" he said softly.

"That's me," I said, looking at his whirling ceiling fan.

"What's your first name?"

I almost choked. Should I tell him? He won't remember anything tomorrow…

"... John."

"John. I like that name. John Laurens." Alex thought aloud. He rolled on top of me, placing his hand on my chest. He set his chin on his hands.

"Uhm, what are you doing?" My face flushed.

"Thinking about how cute you are." He said.

"Uhm, I - what?"

"You're cute."

"You're drunk."

"So? It's true. A drunk man's words are a sober man's thoughts."

"Alex why are you on-" I didn't finish my sentence when I felt a pair of lips on mine. Alex was kissing me. His lips were soft like pillows, and he tasted faint of… alcohol. This wasn't right.

"Alex, get off of me!" I shoved him off. I then regretted it when I saw how hurt he looked. "Alex, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"

"No! I get it. I'm sorry. That wasn't right." He sat on the bed hunched over, his front teeth biting on his lower lip.

"No, Alex, I shouldn't have shoved you," I said, placing a hand on his shoulder. He hugged me this time.

"Is it okay… if I could hug you? At least?" He asked.

"Yeah." I hugged him back.

We stayed like that for the rest of the night.
