If Somebody Hurts You

Summary: interlude of my stalker!Dev series. Set just after Implosion. Trina goes to see Josslyn at her father's. Joss confesses what has been going on.

A/N: Title taken from the song, Flying Solo in Julie and the Phantoms(excellent show. Definitely watch it).

Josslyn was sitting back on her bed, dressed up in a pair of her leggings and a long, plaid shirt when she heard a knock on her door. "Come in." She called out, thinking it must be her father, checking on how she was doing.

Trina walked into the room instead, curious expression on her lovely face. "Joss?" She asked softly, immediately going over to the bed to sit down, curling her legs under her. "Cam told me that you were here. He said that I should probably ask you about it."

The blonde flipped her gold hair and nodded. "I'm sorry I didn't call and tell you that I was here." She replied, playing with a loose thread on her comforter. "Staying here this weekend was kind of...sudden."

Her brow furrowed at that. "Does it have to be about Dev?" She wondered. "Cam briefly mentioned him. He sounded...angry."

Josslyn gave her an almost imperceptible nod, tucking some loose strands of hair behind her ear. "Yeah." She admitted. "It does."

Trina noted the other girl's solemn tone and the haunted expression in her pretty, blue eyes. She moved closer, squeezing her best friend's hand. "Whatever it is, you can tell me."

The other girl's eyes met hers, taking in her reassuring smile. "I know." She said. "It's just...hard."

"Well then start wherever you feel comfortable. I'll just listen."

Josslyn let out a breath. "Okay. You've noticed the tension between Cam and I, right?" At the nod she received, she continued. "Well, we found out yesterday that Dev had been manipulating us. We kissed during the homecoming dance. I didn't regret it, but I felt conflicted because I knew that you liked him. I think Cam felt the same. That's where I was before I met up with you on The Haunted Star. And then I had to go to my grandpa's funeral and the reception and didn't really have time to talk with him about what happened between us. Especially not when you needed help with proving your dad's innocence. I did bring it up to my mother, though and that was when I guess he overheard me talking about putting my journal away in my memory box. Dev stole it and wrote a fake entry about me regretting the kiss. He showed it to Cam and embarrassed and hurt him. And of course I was a whole mix of emotions. Hurt, angry, confused. I couldn't understand why he was ignoring me. That's why I was snarky with him during Halloween. But I got tired of being angry and I wanted my friend back. That's why I went to talk to Cam yesterday, when you were home sick. He told me about what happened and so we knew we needed proof. That's what we were doing today. And that's why I'm staying here until I confront Dev tomorrow. I didn't feel comfortable being in the same home as him."

"Something tells me that Dev did more than steal your journal. I mean, that's definitely awful. But if it was just that, you'd have already confronted him. You would've given him hell. You wouldn't be scared to be near him."

Joss gave a bitter laugh. "Yeah, well, it turns out Dev was taking inappropriate pictures of me. Cam found them when he searched his room last night. He's also been trying to manipulate me by asking me to do things with him that Oscar and I used to do together. I realized that yesterday."

"That little prick!" Trina exclaimed, voice filled with outrage. In this moment, she wanted nothing more to go see Dev herself and show him what nightmares were made of. "After everything you've been through and how you've been there for him. You've even lied for him."

"You and Cam have lied for him, too." The other girl pointed out with a shrug.

"I mean, yeah. That's true. But you did it for longer. You lived with Dev. Cam and I didn't. And I know how much you don't like to lie."

Josslyn pulled her legs up, wrapping her arms around them and resting her chin on her knees. "I don't. But that isn't what bothers me the most. Even his photos of me aren't what bothers me the most. It's the fact that he read the journal I used to let out my feelings about losing Oscar. It's the fact that he tried to get me to do things with him that I used to do with Oscar. Things he's never showed an interest in in the year that he's been here. He's been trying to be like Oscar to manipulate me, too."

Trina threw herself at Josslyn then, hugging her tightly. "We aren't going to let him get away with it, Joss." Trina promised. "Cam and I will be there when you confront Dev tomorrow."

A giggle escaped Josslyn's lips. "I'm so lucky to have you as a friend, Trina. Thank you."

A bright grin was sent her way. "I know, I'm awesome!" She joked, flipping her braids over a slim shoulder before she began to laugh as well. Calming down, she grabbed Josslyn's remote and turned her tv onto Netflix. "I know what we need. A Julie and the Phantoms rewatch!"

The two girls curled up together on the bed, Joss' head falling to rest on Trina's shoulder as they started the first episode, their legs tangled together.

For at least right now, Joss wasn't thinking of what was happening tomorrow or about all that Dev had done. All she knew was that she couldn't be anymore grateful for her best friend.
