A/N: Howdy! Just a little blip of something to fit in with voting week!
"If to please the people, we offer what we ourselves disapprove, how can we afterwards defend our work?
Let us raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair. The rest is in the hands of God."
~George Washington
A Message from Steve
Steve Rogers faced the crowd before him. Many thousands of faces filled the public square. So many people of every race - all Americans. His fellow Americans. All members of the same country. The same America.
A soft breeze floated about the streets and brushed against the Flag, sending the stars and stripes rippling into the fabric, sending waves of motion through the cloth that held so much history. So much meaning.
Steve had been given one minute to speak - a short moment to tell so many what was in his heart. He looked up at his Flag, and did not hesitate, but called out to the people before him.
"This is the Flag of our country! And this country is our home! Our America! We are all citizens of this nation. And as citizens, we have a duty to our country and to everyone who is a part of it. I know my duty - I'll do my duty. And I know you'll do yours.
"Our first president once said: 'Citizens by birth or choice of a common country, that country has a right to concentrate your affections. The name of American, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism, more than any appellation derived from local discriminations.' I urge you, whatever your political standpoint, be good Americans! Faithful Americans! Love your country and all its citizens.
"Those in the government have been given the power to lead - and we have the power to unite in support of the truth! We are a united nation! Defend the truth, uphold the truth, and we will never lose. We have the power to always be a country to be proud of!"
Captain America gazed up at the star-spangled banner. The Flag was a beautiful symbol of his country; liberty and justice for all.
"In God we trust!"
A/N: Whoever you voted for, this is America. We are its people. We are all Americans.
