TYREESE WILLIAMS

The first time I met Tyreese, he was shooting at me. But a surprising number of people I care about, or have cared about, have spent time on the other side. It didn't take me long after really meeting him to decide he was a good guy. A good man. I think Tyreese had Rick Grimes convinced, or at least halfway convinced, to bring a woman named LC back to the prison before we knew LC was actually Leah Cartwright. He took a chance on her, a woman he knew had mental problems, because he felt, in his heart, it was right. That was Tyreese, ultimately. Big guy, big heart. When we were all separated, after the attack on the prison, he took care of Judith Grimes with Carol Peletier until we were all together again. Even since then, since this place called Terminus, he's been there for Judith. But really, he's been there for all of us. He would have died for any of us, I think.

The beautiful thing about Tyreese – what I think is the beautiful thing – is that he had the power to be ruthless and cruel. I don't just mean physical power – he was smart, he could lead. And had he been like that, ruthless and cruel, he might still be alive. But he might also be like a man named Philip Blake. Instead, Tyreese chose to be good. He lived good, and he died good. I think that's the best any of us can hope for. That, and to live and die loved. Tyreese, he had all of that. We all loved him.

He was killed by a walker while trying to help one of our group find his family, and maybe find a safe place for us all to stay. His sister, Sasha, is still alive and with us. That would mean the world to him, because she meant the world to him. He was a great big brother.

He was just great, all around. And it seems that we keep losing the really great ones.

RIP, Tyreese.
