Mystic Trio: Chapter 0

All stories have a. . .

(Norrisville)

„Niiiiiiiinja-KICK!" A figure clad in a black onesie with pairs of red stripes along the wrist and feet kicked their foot trough a flamethrower wielding, robotic Gorilla. Their face was masked, red lines going from the back of their mask across the sides and finishing right below the eyes, nearly giving the combatant a viper-like look. A long, red scarf attached to his neck flew dramatically in the wind.

This was none other than Randy Cunningham, aka the Ninja of Norrisville. Running late for school again, on a FRIDAY of all days!

„Ever since I defeated the Sorcerer, McFist still hasn´t stopped throwing robots at me! HIYAH!"

Randy dodged another mechanical ape barely, groaning as he landed behind it. He had missed his chance to attack! Was he getting sloppy?

Well, maybe it´s because you broke his deal thing he had with the Sorcerer?" Howard Weinerman, ever trusted friend and abbf(absolute best biffer forever) suggested.

Randy stopped his movement for a second. „Hold on, did you just have a moment of GENIUS?!"

Nnnnnnnnno, he literally mentioned it a couple times whenever I visited my dads workplace. Yeesh, guy likes to chat a lot… so annoying."

„WHAT THE JUICE? And you didn't, like, feel like TELLING me?! NINJA-RING!"

What are you so mad about, Wonk-ingham? You kicked the Sorcerers butt and gave a thumbs up to an 800 year old, super scooped THANK YOU MAY I REMIND YOU?!"

Randy ignored Howard for a moment, slicing through another robot with his new sword.

It wasn´t that much different from his first one. His first… second one. The only difference now being that Mr. Smith reinforced his blade, in return making it a bit thinner than before: Rather than making it thick, he had used a different kind of 'Magic Material' Randy and Howard had to retrieve from a faraway mountain…

What a wonk adventure that was.

But this blade felt good. Like… something Randy had totally missed. Since it was thinner, he was able to move faster- something Randy made up mostly for his lack in strength and size.

Helloooooooo, you still have your best friend on the liiiine! C´mon and hurry up, I don´t wanna wait if you get in detention on the last day of school!"

Randy would look upon a sea… n-no, more a… pond. Small mountain? Of destroyed robot apes.

„Ababab-! Hold it Howard! …smmmokebomb."

And with a loud PUFF, the Ninja vanished in a thick cloud of red clouds… which smelled like a horrid case of WORDS TOO GROSS TO BE USED.

Unbeknowst to the Ninja however, he was being watched… by whom?

(New York)

„YO, Trixie, Spud!" None other than Jake Long, fresh full of energy this morning, came skating down the sidewalk away from their school in midtown Manhattan, wearing a red T-shirt, displaying a green dragon on the back and some shorts.

Subtle for this teenager, as he is indeed half dragon! Jake ran his hand through his dark hair, which ends were colored green.

Trixie and Spud reacted to his held-out fist with a fist bump of their own.

„So, who´s ready and up for 3 months summer time with no school?!"

Instead of the hyped reaction he was waiting for, Jake was instead met with two confused gazes. „What?"

„Uuuuuuuh… we kinda thought you were going with Rose." Spud nonchalantly said, scratching the top of his head. Trixie just nodded. „You guys in datin´ troubles or somethin´?" The girl asked. Jake shook his head. „Nah, ´s all cool, don´t worry! We´ve just been hanging out so often after she got her memories back, we kinda agreed to spend some time with our families this summer! So she´s off on a cruise ship with her parents. Anyway, what do you say guys? Skatepark, Arcade or a scoop of-"

„Can´t. I mean… it sounds cool and all that you´re taking time for us Jake, but we kinda…"

„Had some plans too." Trixie finished. Jake just cocked his head to the side.

„Their families are going on a cross country roadtrip?" Fu Dog, Jakes only companion at this moment asked as Jake came into the Electronics store somewhat defeated.

Apparently most of his summer plans just took a belly flop into the ocean of disappointment.

Not that Fu Dog would ever say this out loud to Jake… but it was an entertaining metaphor still.

„Yup…" Jake sighed, leaning his head against the wall. „I just thought after ´Dragon Up´-ing the whole schoolyear we could finally get down to three months of normal teen stuff! maybe protect the mythical creatures on the side, sure." He didn´t forget his responsibilities either… his grandfather would´ve chewed him up about it later and for the first time his dad had high expectations of him too.

That was something new he had to get used to.

Jake was ripped out of his thoughts as the door to the store opened, signified with the sound of bells just above the door.

„Uhm… Hi."

It was another teen, one Jake didn´t immediately recognized. The teen had raven black hair, and a lot of it too. Sideburns accompanied a kind grin as the… Jake could almost swear they changed from gold to purple to black in the time he entered.

He was wearing a darkish purple track jacket, which displayed the face of a monkey grinning with sharp teeth, a mix between evil and smug.

„I´m looking for the owner of this place? Mr uhm…" The boy pulled out a flyer. „Mr… Luong?"

„What for?"

„A job offering!" The teen excitedly held the flyer outward. Jake attempted to hide his snicker- the flyer was years old!

„Ah, sorry to tell you dude but- well, first of all my grandfather isn´t here at the moment. Second of all, I think you´re a coup-le of centuries too late." Jake finished the sentence with a click of his tongue, looking at the black haired teen as he took a seat on one of the older chairs.

„No worries… I can wait."

„Uhm… I meant you probably won´t get the job."

„Oh, it´s just a summertime job. I´m sure your grandfather will be wise enough to hire me."

Jake raised an eyebrow. Okay. That sentence felt… odd. Odd and Off.

„Jake." He finally decided to introduce himself, skipping over his last name. Didn´t feel right telling this guy more…

„A pleasure to meet you, Jake! I´m Mac. But actually…"

The teen scratched the back of his head, still giving Jake a toothy and wide grin.

„Macaque- is, heh, my full name."

„Like the animal?"

„Yeah… like the animal."

(China. Flower Fruit Mountain.)

„Again."

The sound of grunting and a certain way of feet shuffling could be heard. Several small monkeys had gathered inside the cave, watching as their King, the legendary sage, EQUAL TO HEAVEN, Sun Wukong, was undergoing another training session with his successor.

Your ordinary, minimum wage noodle delivery boy. The young human male wiped the sweat off his forehead and red headband, taking off his orange jacket, which displayed the symbol of the Monkey King grinning wide on the back.

Step into the strike kid! It´s not that hard!"

Monkey King said with a slight smirk, watching his successor, MK, balance on a thin stone path, trying to find his footing.

„Uh- can´t I do this on the ground?!" MK yelled from above, almost slipping off.

Wukong shook his head and let himself fall back into his Jin Dou Yun, lazily eating a peach he brought with himself.

MK looked down, gulping. He barely managed to balance himself with the staff, and now he was supposed to step forth, throw it AND catch it again?

„Okay… focus…" Monkey King perked up as soon as he felt MK´s golden eyes, his true sight re-emerge.

„Patience…" MK moved his foot back slowly in circular motion- then lost his footing.

„Step into the sssTRIHIHI-HIYA-HIKE! WAAAAAAAAH-oompf!"

Monkey King had luckily caught MK in midair.

„Sorry."

„Don´t sweat it kid. You´re making big steps already! Using what I taught you! Just… on harder difficulty."

Monkey King smiled proudly at his student, glad to see his spirits rise up again. „Besides! It´s time I took you on a training trip!"

„Training Trip? …?!" MK gasped with excitement. „OOOOH! IS THIS ONE OF THOSE THINGS WHERE WE TAKE A SUPER LONG JOURNEY TO A SUPER ANCIENT TRAINING PLACE WHILE I HAVE TO CARRY OUR WHOLE LUGGAGE?!"

Monkey King shoved MK´s face away from his own. Shaking his head once more. „Nope! I just need to buy some magic artifacts from overseas! My PC broke when I uh… rejected more emails from my lawyer."

He´d clear his throat, looking away.

"But since you offered…"

It took MK a good hour to convince Pigsy to let him go with his mentor, something the noodle shop owner was absolutely AGAINST.

MK made bargain after bargain, have Mei take over his shift, Mr. Teng, he even tried roping the Gold and Silver / Silver and Gold Demon Brothers into this! It all worked out when he promised to work free overtime for the time he´s away.

"MONKEY KING-! WAITWAITWAIT I MADE IT!"

MK, with heavy luggage on his back collapsed at the feet of his teacher, panting. Wukong chuckled, pulling MK up by his bag pack. "Ya made it! Now following up on what I said a day ago!" Monkey King dropped another bag pack onto MK. "OOF- YUP! Carrying….. my teachers….. stuff! Awesome… TRAINING!"

MK yelled, all fired up now. Sun Wukong shook his head, rolling his eyes while also flashing a big grin. "Hop on kid! We´ve got a short flight ahead of us! Oh and- make sure to hold on, will you?" "Woaaaaaaaaah… Monkey King´s magical cloud..!" MK´s face lit up bright as he made himself comfortable on the cloud.

"I always wanted to ride it…!" "Heh! Really now?" "Uhm… y-yeah! Flying must feel so great..!"

Monkey King turned to the front. "Feel like… this?"

ZOOM!

The magical cloud zipped out of the cave, splashing trough the waterfall.

"WAAAAAHAHAHA-YAHOOOOOOOOOOO!" MK screamed at the top of his lungs- both totally scared and excited.

So much wind flying against his face!

"WATCH OUT!" Monkey King duly noted the warning of his pupil, instead replying with a simple chuckle.

The Flaming Mountains were easy to traverse past, and Sun Wukong greatly enjoyed the up- and down tone of his student screaming as they cleared the lava mountains.

Next stop: AMERICA!

"N to the Y to the C to the GRAVE PUNCHER CONVENTIOOON!"

"HAHAHAHA!"

"HAHAHAHA!" – Randy and Howard scream-laughed in perfect sync, much to the dismay of Heidi Weinerman, Howard´s older sister.

The Weinermans, along with one Cunningham (who´s basically family at this point) were on their way to New York City, to visit another corner of Howard´s large family.

Randy never really asked Howard how big his family was. He always had some Uncles and Aunts and Cousins to tell stories about. Some were in prison, others farmers, apple farmers, others lived normal lifes.

Total contrast to Randy. He barely knew anything about his own grandparents.

"UGH, could you two zippitle it for a moment?! I´m trying to use this time to update the blog me and Debbie have been working on!"

"Ooooooh you mean that shoobtastic blog about the supernatural and weird? Take a chill pill sis, or else-"

"Not this again Howard! I need to concentrate!" "Kiiiids, settle down a bit. No arguing while I drive!"

Howard groaned at his fathers remark. "Just drive Mort."

Randy leaned over to Howard. He was curious about this blog Heidi was writing… mostly her opinions on the Ninja, if he was included, which he should. Totally.

"Uuuuugh… you really wanna know Cunningham?"

"Kinda do, yeah."

"Like I saaaaid, the blog is for shoob crazos who will believe anything! GAH, Heidi talked so much about it I can count them all off in my head!"

"Which would beeeeeeeeee…?" Howard groaned. Great. Now he had to count them all trough one by one.

"First, let´s start with… this whole situation. There´s the Ninja of Norrisville and world hero sensation Ben-superbruce-10. And that´s it."

Heidi turned around, showing Randy her tablet. "Uh- nuh-uh! There´s way more than that! Dragons in New York, giant mutant turtles and demons in their sewers, teenage spies who´s tracks are covered by the government and even MORE demons having appeared in China! Right now we´re investigating a ghost situation from Amity P-" Then it dawned on Heidi that she was talking to Bandy Runninglamb, Howards best friend. Sporting the same look of doubt as her little brother was.

"UGH!" She just went back on working on her investigation.

"Shoobtastic. Told you."

Randy nodded, snorting. "Yeah. Pfsh, dragons in New York? How likely is that!"

In that moment Randy failed to notice the Ninjanomicon, the book containing all Ninja knowledge, glowing and humming in response to the mentioned dragon.

(New York: Hidden Magical Realm)

As it turned out, Macaque wasn´t your average teenager- he was well versed in magic, as his grandfather had pointed out after the job interview.

Jake couldn't believe he had been assigned babysitter for Mac, going to the Market in the realm of mystical beings. Only his gramps´s warning words that something in his mind tried remembering the name `Macaque` finally got Jake to accompany the strange teenager.

"So. I´m guessing you aren´t ordinary either?" Mac asked as they arrived at their stop. Jake merely shrugged, stuffing his hands in his pockets.

"I´m half dragon." Macaque stopped, taking a look at Jake´s hair- then grinned again.

"OOOOH! The American Dragon! Yeah, I´ve heard tales about you! One after the other rising in heroics. You have a long way of training behind you, right?"

"Well, what can I say, I´m almost a natural!" Jake took the opportunity to gloat for a moment.

"I´m sure you are. Your potential must be great! Do you have any other mentors beside your grandfather?" Jake´s gloat-filled and confidence made smile dropped. That question was… a little very direct.

"…What do you want Mac?"

Macaque chuckled instead, grabbing a fruit from a nearby stand and throwing it in the air. In the time Jake looked up confused, Macaque struck quick with a blow to the abdomen, kicking his legs away too- then catching the fruit.

He offered Jake a hand to get back up and a warm smile.

"I just want to help you Jake. You can never have too many mentors, right? Besides! It´d just be combat training."

Jake was skeptical… then again, this was one of the few times someone kicking him down helped him up again. Jake grabbed onto Mac´s hand, not noticing a small purple veil of energy travelling trough his sleeve, creating a purple dragon on the back, grinning just like the back of Macaque´s jacket.

"Now come on then, buddy. We got a list to tick! For… my… summer job!"

"Yeah… summer job." Jake repeated as he walked deeper into the market with Mac, who´s grin had been swapped for a frown.

("Sun Wukong… Húndàn. And my ex-disciple… well well well.") His eyes would glow purple for a second as the grin returned.

("I can´t wait for the reunion.")

Bonus after credits scene

MK was panting the whole way as he ran up to Monkey King´s temple, one stair after another.

"HHH I CAN´T ANYMORE! No- one more step! HHHHHH but I can´t! JUST ONE MORE STEP! Uuuuugh that´s not enough!"

The camera pans away into the sky.

"WHY DID I BRING SO MUCH LUGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE?!"
