Light
Natsu was not as oblivious as people may think. Well, he was, but he was selective what he was oblivious about. Natsu liked to play dumb and he liked to leave people stumped, speechless, or otherwise shocked by him. Humans were funny when they were flustered.
This had backfired, though. Spectacularly.
When Natsu met Lucy, she'd been an interesting and above all else amusing new kinda project. She wanted into Fairy Tail, so he took her along. Then he formed a team with her. That wasn't smart. At all.
He hadn't counted on Lucy being so… so… so Lucy. That was his biggest mistake. Lucy was so damned smart, so freaking intuitive and so different that she wormed her way under his skin before he knew what hit him. Pretty much, one day he'd been laughing at her silly antics, and the next he was throwing himself between her and any possible danger.
She undid him, plain and simple. All she had to do was look at him with those shining golden-brown eyes and he was ready to lasso the moon for her if she as much as asked. Not that she ever did. For someone born with a silver spoon, Lucy asked for very little. Actually, she never really asked for anything but jobs. Everything else she did on her own.
She had carved a place for herself in the guild that could never be filled with anyone else. Everyone loved her, she was Fairy Tail's brightest light and their sweetheart. Needless to say, she was also the light of his life, the highlight of his day, every day.
If he didn't see her for more than twenty-four hours, he grew restless. Lately, it's gotten worse, he needed to be around her all the time, addicted to her scent, to her presence. He wasn't stupid, contrary to popular belief. He knew very well what was going on. He'd always been attracted to Lucy, that wasn't much of a surprise, Lucy was a beautiful girl, not to notice her, not to be attracted to her, one would have to be asexual. But this was different, this was something else.
This was him falling ass over teakettle in love with his partner.
That complicated things, a lot. It threw him for a loop and made him question everything. He didn't have any grand goals or big aspirations, he just wanted to be the best Dragon Slayer there was and before his dreams got shot to hell, he wanted to find Igneel.
Well, he won't be finding Igneel anymore, he'd found and lost him on the same day. He'd also lost his way that day too. He'd packed up and left and wandered with Happy and never felt so alone and desolate in his life. But he'd managed to get through the crippling grief of knowing that no matter what he did, he was not going to see Igneel again. He hated it with the passion of a thousand burning suns, but he accepted it. Igneel was gone, but his father wouldn't want him to waste his life grieving for him. So, Natsu figured it was time to move on, and to do that he had to go back.
Back to Magnolia. Back to Fairy Tail. But most of all, back to Lucy.
Then Happy had come with a stupid magazine that had some article on Lucy where it said she lived in Crocus. Thing was stupid, he'd said, why would Luce live in Crocus? It made no sense. But Crocus was closer than Magnolia and on the off chance that he really would find her there, off to Crocus they went.
First place he looked, he found her. But he'd already known he'd find her there. Happy had found another magazine and she was covering a story on the Grand Magic Games. His Luce, writing a story on the Grand Magic Games instead of participating? It made no sense at all. Yet there she was, stunned, but by no means scared of the scorching heat of his flames, smiling at him, his partner, his best friend, the person worth killing and dying for.
Having found her he realized he had some more accepting to do. Focused on his own grief, he'd completely ignored Lucy and had effectively broken her heart. Not that she blamed him, his Luce simply wouldn't. But he blamed himself. He'd been selfish and frankly, she should be angry, she should hit him, scream, shout, get it all out. But she was just glad that he was back. It humbled him, made him want to cry and beg for forgiveness. She wouldn't want that, though. So, he did what he knew she expected. He put everything back together.
Well, she put Fairy Tail back together. He just helped, by putting her back together.
That year alone had taught him a lot. About the world and the people, but mostly about himself. It had put things into perspective and made him realize what was important in life. And to him, Lucy was important. The most important person in his life.
So, yeah, here he was in love with the beacon of light that shone just for him, and he had no idea what to do about it. Just knowing you loved someone and actually telling then were two entirely different matters. Natsu was by no means a coward. But to be fair, Lucy had always scared him just a little bit. And now, well now, she scared the shit out of him.
AN: Nothing much to say about this one. Just a drabble, wanted to try my hand on writing in Natsu POV. What do you guys think? Did I butcher him? Your opinions are always appreciated and valued.
