Chapter Three: Interrogations and Friendships
After the disappearance of the troll corpse, the teachers were worried about the students and so started questioning the students to determine what happened. The headmaster and snape started in Slytherin, using questions about where they were that night and if they had any way to prove that they were where they said they were. When it came to Corvus, they started asking the routine questions but about halfway through he felt pressure on his mental barriers and subtly guides them to see the memory of him going to bed without the headmaster noticing what he is up to. Dumbledore doesn't notice and accepts that memory as fact. Snape suddenly shouts "QUESTION HIM AGAIN. HE MUST BE LYING!"
"Severus calm down." Dumbledore quickly replies. "Corvus would you mind giving me the memory of last night, so I can confirm that you were where you said?"
"No sir I don't mind, but how do I do that?" Corvus replies "also is there any repercussions to this?" He asks
"No" Dumbledore calmly states, "there are two ways to do this, either I take the original memory out and put it back in after we are finished, or I can create a copy, take it out and keep it for closer inspection later. Which would you like me to do?" Dumbledore asks Corvus.
Corvus thinks for a minute and says "could you create a copy, sir? I am quite possessive about things that I consider mine."
"Aren't we all? Now I would like you to think about the memory you will be giving me. I will put my wand against your temple, create a copy and draw it out. We will then put into my pensive and watch what happened last night."
"Ok sir, I understand," Corvus says, he closes his eyes for a second and thinks about him going to bed that night and cuts off the memory before it gets to him getting up in the middle of the night. "Ok sir I'm ready" he states with his eyes still closed with focus.
Dumbledore puts his wand against Corvus' head, copies the memory and pulls it out. "Thank you, Corvus. This will be of great help." He then turns around and places the memory in a stone basin covered in strange symbols. "Come here, Corvus. I want you to watch this memory with us" he gestures to Corvus and Snape to move over to the Pensieve.
Once they all put their heads in the Pensieve, the white most swirls around to create the night before. They watch as Corvus goes to the Slytherin common room after talking with McGonagall. As he enters the common room, he gets bombarded with question after question. After about a minute he simply states "all who are wondering what happened to the troll, you will find out tomorrow morning, I am going to sleep now" he walks up to his room and quietly goes to sleep.
After watching Corvus sleep for another half hour, Dumbledore is convinced and turns to Snape and says "Is this enough evidence for you to be satisfied?"
Snape turns pale and states "yes headmaster, sorry for doubting your judgement" he turns to Corvus to see him smirking back at him and mouthing the words "I won this round".
They leave the memory, and Corvus gets asked to leave so the next person could be questioned. As he is leaving, he feels the death glare coming from snape and smirks to himself again.
The rest of the day all people were talking about was "Corvus: The Great Slytherin Troll Slayer". He didn't care much for the publicity and ignored people who asked questions until they left. So by the time he went to bed he was a bit fed up with people.
The next day as he was eating breakfast and was being harassed by two Ravenclaws, two redhead boys who looked to be twins approached Corvus. As they approached one of them tripped and spilt a bit of pink liquid on Corvus. He quickly pulls the boy up from the floor and says "you should be more careful when you're walking."
The boy replies by saying "thanks for helping me up. I'm Fred."
"And I'm George," says the other twin.
"I'm Corvus Nice to meet you, now might I ask what was spilt on me?" Corvus asks threateningly.
"Well, my dear friend, it's quite simple" Fred starts.
"It's a potion that is supposed to turn you into a chicken" George ends.
Just as he says that Corvus starts to cluck and grow feathers, he then starts to shrink and morph into the form of a chicken in the middle of the Great Hall.
"It looks to be working well Forge" states Fred.
"That it does, my brother Gred" states George.
"When do you suppose it will end?" Fred asks
"Anywhere between now and the next five minutes" George answers cheerfully.
Fred looks at the chicken Corvus and sees that it's about to turn back, he then looks at the teachers' table and watches as Snape walks over to them.
"Do you know what grave mistake you have just made?" Snape says darkly. "That boy single-handedly defeated a troll, and you just played a prank on him, what do you think he will do to you?"
The twins look at each other with the realisation that this could be the last prank they ever played. They then start to hear laughing from behind them. They turn around to see Corvus laughing his ass off. "Well played boys, that was a good one, not many people are brave to do that." He stands upon the table and shouts to the whole hall "this is the only prank that will happen to me, next time I won't be so forgiving." He gets off of the table and speaks to the twins again "So did you create that potion, or is this a potion you can buy?"
The twins look shocked but reply in sync "we made it, it's a difficult process but a good result. We've been experimenting since we got to Hogwarts this year."
"Ahh, nice. I look forward to your future work. Might I ask that I request your favours now and again?"
The twins, still stunned, say "yeah just give us the word, and we'll have something set up as fast as possible."Corvus says his thanks and walks out of the hall to have his first lesson of the day which, by sheer coincidence, was potions.
The next few days, Corvus played a few pranks with the twins until one day he asked: "Hey, how do you guys know all of the secret passages and where people are?"
"Well, we have this map which allows us to see all of these things, wanna see it?" Fred answers.
"Hell yeah, I do" Corvus practically shouts.
Fred pulls out a piece of old parchment and taps his wand onto it whilst saying "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good". He passes it to Corvus who quickly reads it and says "Hey do you mind if I make another one?"
"YOU CAN DO THAT!?" Fred shouts.
"Yeah just give me a piece of parchment the same size, and I'll make another one."
Fred pulls out a piece of parchment and gives it to Corvus whilst watching intently. Corvus touches both pieces of parchment at the same time; first, the map glows and fades, then they both glowed at the same time. Corvus takes his hands off of the parchments and passes the map back to Fred.
"So, did it work?" Fred asks inquisitively.
"Probably, but let's find out" Corvus then pulls out his wand, taps the parchment and says "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good" from where his wand tapped words began to form. The only two differences between the two maps were the names on the front. Instead of four names it just had one which was the reaper, and instead of the marauders' map, it instead said the reaper's map.
"Hey, why did it do that?" Fred asked
"I don't know, but I think it's to do with what my nickname used to be" Corvus replies.
"Why were you called that?" Asked Fred
"Because wherever I went people would get hurt, it just kinda stuck around" Corvus replied. "Can we keep this a secret between us I don't like the reputation that comes with that name?" Corvus asked.
"Yeah sure just try to keep my family out of trouble" Fred responded.
"Of course," said Corvus.
It was the first quidditch match of the year, Slytherin vs Gryffindor, tensions were high, and according to Draco, the Gryffindor team had a secret weapon that they have been hiding. The students went out to the pitch after breakfast to watch the first match of the year. When they arrived at the stands, they watch as the players entered into the field, when it was announced that Harry Potter was the Gryffindor seeker the students were surprised that a first-year was allowed to play.
The two captains shook hands, and then players flew up into the sky. After a while of playing Corvus sees that Harry's broom started to jerk in random directions, he pointed this out to the Slytherins nearby and then looked for the source of the apparent tampering. He quickly rules out the four houses and so looks at the teachers' box where he sees two of them mouthing words and keeping a focus on harry. He quickly runs to the box to try to distract them to make the curse stop. On the way he runs into Hermione who has the same plan, she wants to set fire to snape's robes, but instead, Corvus suggests she does it to Quirrel's turban as he is the one casing the curse and snape is casting a counter. She agrees but is wary of accidentally hurting the teacher, Corvus says "If you don't want to just leave it to me."
Hermione replies with "fine, you do it, but when you get into trouble, it won't be my obligation to save you."
Corvus angrily replies with "I never said it was, now leave."
He gets to the box and quietly casts a small incendio at Quirrell's turban which creates panic and forces him to run back to Hogwarts holding the remnants of his turban which wasn't on fire. After Harry stopped being cursed, he caught the snitch and won the game for the Gryffindors.
After the match, Harry gets carried back to the Gryffindor common room, where there was a huge party already waiting for him. Everyone was drinking, cheering and having a fun time. Harry goes up to the twins and says "how did you organise all of this in such a short time?"
The twins look at each other and reply by saying "A wizard never reveals their secret" and walk off to enjoy the drinks and food.
On the opposite side of the castle, a furious snape is shouting at the Slytherin team about the constant breaking of the rules and how they would have to work five times as hard on training before their next match so that the same mistakes won't happen again. He then walks out of the common room, leaving the team stunned. Corvus goes to bed and looks at his map before he sleeps. On the map he sees two weird things, one being professor Quirrel having another name attached to his saying Tom Riddle, the other is a person by the name of Peter Pettigrew sharing a bed with Ron Weasley. He thinks to himself that he will have to ask Ron about that when he next saw him. He closes the map, puts it away in a safe place, gets changed and goes to bed for the night. As Corvus wakes up, he hears Draco shout about how unfair it is that a mudblood is the official face and prince of Slytherin and he is going to try and take Corvus down. Corvus walks up behind him with his arms crossed and says "Will you now? Come on then. I dare you."
Draco quickly spins around and tries to pull his wand out. Corvus sees this, grabs Draco's arm and throws him across the room. Draco gets up and tries again when he sees Corvus run at him faster than he can react and punches him in the gut, takes his wand and throws him across the room again. He says to Draco "if you ever try that again, good luck finding and using your wand. Now leave!" He throws Draco's wand back at him. Draco defeated and humiliated, picks up his wand, walks past Corvus and as he leaves the room he shouts "MY FATHER WILL HEAR ABOUT THIS!"
