Authors note: Hey guys, this is my first fanfiction. Hope you enjoy it. This is an AU where the Winx and Specialists are normal teenagers with no magical powers.

Chapter 1: System Overload
"Stupid shoelaces!" Timmy cursed as he tripped and fell on his feet. "I'll be damned", he spoke to no one in particular as he quickly got up and resumed running towards the teachers chambers. Timmy was your regular nerdy geeky guy, with straight A s, top of his class. So far he had tried to be the ideal student, and same was expected from him by his teachers and friends. So, today double be especially humiliating - he was late, his clothes were dusty, and he was limping with a bleeding knee.
Ten pair of eyes turned to him as he reached the assigned class room.
"Timster, where were you?" Riven asked clearly annoyed.
"Your knee! Are you alright?" Flora enquired, concern evident on her face.
Well no surprises there, she was the most kind and caring one of the group.
"I'm f-fine." Timmy said catching his breath while simultaneously scanning the room. The air was thick with tension and hostility. One could say there was a giant invisible wall in the middle of the room, as the girls and guys were seated at the opposite end of the spacious room, leaving empty rows in between. Such a shame, he thought. Just a few weeks ago, these same brooding teenagers were walking hand in hand and whispering sweet nothing to their significant others. Yes, you read it right and that's when they took this research assignment together. To quote Stella, 'The power of love can conquer monsters and demons, this is just a stupid assignment'. Skip to the present, the same blonde hadn't worked one bit on the 'stupid' assignment, let alone conquer it. Timmy doubted if she even knew what the assignment was exactly about, but he kept that thought to himself.
"Timmy, are you there?" The question broke Timmy's train of thoughts and snapped him back to realty, where he realised, he was blankly staring at his friends for the past 10 mins.
"Ahh, yes.." He replied sheepishly to Tecna, looking straight in her inquisitive eyes. Those beautiful teal eyes…. they were his kryptonite. But more about that later.
"Ahh yes, I'm alright, I mean I'm there, there meaning here that is." He rambled, fishing out a silver steel thumb drive from his jeans pocket.
"Sir, this is the roadmap we have planned for completion of the assignment"
Tecna began explaining as she connected the thumb drive on her laptop and projector screened the presentation. Her tone was sincere as she walked the professor through the presentation, taking a leadership position. Not that anyone else was seemed interested anyway. Musa was busy listening to the music blasting through her headphones which she had successfully managed to camouflage in her darkblue hair. Helia was scribbling in his pocket note book which may have been another one of his drawings or poems. Every once a while, he did steal a glance towards Flora who was flushing red with embarrassment and anxiety just for the reason of being in the same room as Helia. Stella did notice her friend's predicament but decided to focus on her manicured nails instead. The teacher was contented by Tecna's explanation but didn't miss the lack of interest exhibited by the rest of the group sparring Timmy, who jumped in a couple of times in to explain something but ended up complicating it instead.
"This seems fine for now but you kids need to pick up pace. I expect this assignment to be completed in the next 2 weeks, with equal participation from everyone." He announced, stressing on the last four words.
"Whatever" Stella murmured under her breath.
"Miss Solaria is there a problem?" The bell rang just in time saving Stella from answering the now offended teacher.
"We'll deal with this next class". The professor said sternly as he eyed Stella and left the room.
Flora was the first one to storm out of the room, followed by Bloom who too made a beeline for their shared dorm room, her fiery red hair floating in the wind. Helia was hurriedly packing his stationery when he saw Flora rush past him, her eyes focused on the ground and hands tightly clutching books to her chest. Not again he sighed internally. She had been behaving like this for the past week which puzzled him. One by one all the teens left the room silently, leaving one teal eyed girl and brown-orange (let's call it orange for now) haired boy alone.
"Are you alright Timmy? Your clothes look like you've been in to war and your knee is bleeding" Tecna enquired. "And your hair, it's dishevelled"
Timmy could sense the concern in her voice. Before he could respond, Tecna rose from her seat and stood in front of him, close enough to maintain the acceptable social distance but also to render him at loss of words. Her pale hands reached out towards his head, gently running through his orange hair tossing them in order. He was overwhelmed at their sudden proximity, his heart beating rapidly on contact with her soft skin, the fragrance of her lavender perfume flooding his senses.
"There you go, it seems fine now." She said pressing the last rouge strand of hair in order, a self-satisfying smile forming on her face. She never liked things to be out of place or out of order. He took a moment to recover from that gentle assault on his senses, pushed his red glasses on his nose and took a deep breath before he started answering all her questions one by one.
"I could hardly catch any sleep last night. Was working on the presentation, the step plan, making a list of tasks and assignment of role and responsibility. I can't recollect till what time I was awake or when I fell asleep on my desk, but I remember seeing your message at around 3 am. As a consequence, I woke up late, so I was practically running to reach class on time when one of my shoe laces got untied and I tripped. On my fall, some sharp object hit my knee and hence this." He explained referring to his knee.
"Why were you up till 3? Riven was supposed to help you, did he ditch you again?"
He nodded in response. "He was out clubbing with Darcy or someone he's seeing and didn't return till morning." He continued.
"I should know that, because Musa was busy checking her Chatapp, Magixgram, Friendsbook, Reelschat to find about Riven and Darcy's whereabouts instead of helping me shortlist the cafes we need to visit for the assignment like she was supposed to."
Tecna complained as she crossed her arms. "And after finding out where they were, she stated cursing Riven and claiming how he was a dog and playboy and how Darcy was just using him and he 'doesn't matter'.
She got seated comfortably on the table opposite to Timmy's chair, her legs dangling in the air and her hands were clutching the table for support.
"And when I pointed out that it does not make sense to stalk him if he 'doesn't matter', she just frowned and dashed out of the room murmuring something about how I will never get it."
"That's strange"
"And highly illogical. This has to stop Timmy. All our friends are having trouble their relationship. They can hardly stay in the same room. They used to be like opposite poles of the magnet and now it feels like one of the magnets flipped and they are repulsing. Every day when I return to the dorm I see Flora telling her plants all the things she should be telling Helia, Bloom gobbling tubs of ice cream like tic-tacks, Stella constantly whining how Brandon 'cheated' her and Musa, honestly she is the worst – She keeps telling everyone how she is over Riven yet she keeps tracking his every move which some people may describe as 'like a creepy stalker.' Also, this is not efficient. You and I are the only people working on this assignment. It is not possible for 2 people to complete an assignment requiring the involvement of 10 people, that too along with other schoolwork. I don't want to compromise on my grade just because my friends cannot get over their ex-boyfriends and I certainly do not want to see our friends fighting or avoiding each other. We have to do something about this."
"They say they will help us but they are either too busy making their ex jealous (like Riven and Brandon) or mopey (like Sky) or too distracted to work productively (like Helia)."
"There is a 99% chance I will lose my calm if this continues any longer. Timmy, we have to take the matter in our hands." She said. Her eyes were filled with a determination. "Let's do it the Stella way." She smirked.
Timmy had a bad feeling about this, but he trusted Tecna enough to ignore his instincts for a while.
"Let's meet at your dorm room in after an hour. Just you and me, no roommates around." He liked where this was going. A slight blush creeping his cheek.
"Why? What is the plan Tecna?" His hazel eyes looked at her in excitement and anticipation.
"Project Caffeine Connect."
