"After I was transformed, I never visited Earth again. I married a high ranking warrior, and was assigned to my original profession as a paleontologist. I was able to dissect and analyze alien species from all over the galaxy. At first, they didn't take me seriously, but they grew to trust me. Once I had that trust, they listened to everything I had to say," Kate said.
"You never went back to Earth? Why?" Lex asked.
"I wanted to cut ties. I could never go back to being human, and I wasn't going to hunt humans as trophies. I just left everything behind. The last moments of my humanity, I experienced distrust, paranoia, and stupidity. I was invited to inspect a sample they found in Antarctica. We brought it to the Norwegian camp, and Dr. Halversen didn't want to follow quarantine procedure. He wanted to be the first to analyze the alien, but none of his findings ever made it back to civilization. He wasn't even the first species to know about it; the Yautja knew about this Thing for thousands of years, and now he's dead. As soon as the creature broke out of the ice, it started to copy us. Everyone started arguing with each other, fighting each other, and wouldn't cooperate with simple instructions. Now, things are a lot simpler. If anyone doesn't do as I say they die," Kate said bitterly.
"Then I found out that the Thing had escaped as a dog into an American camp. The same thing happened there too. They turned on each other, lacked coordination, and they all died," Kate continued.
"The same thing happened to me. A rich man named Weyland wanted to send out an untrained team onto the ice to discover an ancient pyramid. At first I refused, because I didn't want to be liable for anyone getting hurt," Lex said.
"What made you change your mind?" Kate asked.
"They were going on the ice with or without me. I figured, it would be better if I was there. Maybe I could prevent someone from getting killed, but as soon as we got out there I was ignored by men with guns," Lex said.
"They didn't take us females seriously," Kate observed.
"I was born in 1955. I got my bachelor's and my PHD in my twenties, but during the 70s and 80s I wasn't respected. Men were more interested in my looks than my intellect. So, when Dr. Halversen came out to meet me he said he needed me for an expedition. I thought then I would be taken seriously," Kate said.
"Things are better now for women than the 80s. Some progress has been made," Lex said.
"That's good. It's nice to know the world wasn't destroyed in a nuclear war. Tell me what happened since 1982," Kate asked.
"Well, the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, and then Soviet Union fell apart in 1991," Lex mentioned.
"Really? Without a fight?" Kate asked skeptically.
"Their economic system didn't work, and they collapsed. All of the Eastern European countries became free and democratic. Then in the 90s we got the Internet," Lex said.
"What's the Internet?" Kate asked.
"It's like the hard drive on your computer can access the hard drives of many other computers on a server. It grants access to all of the information that exists in the world from your computer," Lex tried to explain.
"In 1982, the computers were ancient. When I became one of Yautja, I had access to their computers. It took me months to figure it all out. I was used to inputing a simple command, and then the computer would give me some data. The Yautja computers allowed me access to every world within the empire," Kate said.
Lex knew what she was talking about. She had used Yautja computers on occasion, and was overwhelmed with the information provided. "Then in 2001, a terrorist group destroyed the Twin Towers in New York, and hit the Pentagon using hijacked jetliners. Three thousand people died that day," Lex said.
"What was the response?" Kate asked.
"We went to war in Afghanistan but the terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden escaped. We still don't know where he is," Lex said.
"I remember the Soviets entering Afghanistan. It didn't work so well for them," Kate recalled.
"The same thing is happening to us. Then in 2003, we invaded Iraq again, and that war is ongoing," Lex added.
"Perhaps I will visit Earth someday. It's been twenty-five Earth years by now I think," Kate said uncertain. "What year is it now?"
"I think its 2005 or 2006," Lex said unsure.
"That makes me fifty, and yet I still feel great," Kate said pleased. Kate then switched the subject. "I have to know one thing. How did Star Wars end?"
"You want me to spoil it for you?" Lex asked amused.
"I'm not going to watch it," Kate pressed.
"The Emperor shows up, there's a second Death Star, its revealed that Luke and Leia are siblings, and Darth Vader redeems himself by killing the Emperor. The Death Star is destroyed and the Empire collapses," Lex summarized.
Kate nodded thoughtfully. "Tell me about movies and music during the 80s and beyond," Kate requested.
The two talked for hours on everything related to Earth events over the last twenty-five years. Lex had been born roughly the same time Kate had disappeared, so there were events that Lex only knew academically. As they talked they had drinks, and weren't disturbed by the males. The Nobleman and the Prince were in other room discussing their latest hunting trips.
Finally, Kate brought up a sensitive subject. "Why did you marry the Prince?" she asked.
"I did it to save Earth. That's what he wanted for him saving the planet from the under water Xenomorphs. He's the only Yautja that has ever kept watch on me. I am not sure what I would be doing if not for him," Lex said.
"Was he the one that changed you?" Kate asked.
"No, they're dead. He found me on a game preserve planet. We fought against the Black Yautja together," Lex said.
"How many wives does he have?"
"I am the seventh," Lex said awkwardly.
"That's really good luck. Normally, royalty have dozens if not hundreds of wives," Kate said.
"Sometimes I prefer him not around," Lex admitted.
"At the lab we always have samples of the Thing. If...the Prince were to be infected, we would have to kill him. Even a Prince can't escape our quarantine. We could make it look like an accident. It would hurt my safety record of course, and there would be an investigation. But they would never be able to prove it," Kate offered.
Lex simply stared at Kate. Kill the Prince? Could she really do it? She hated him of course, but to kill him? This could be her only chance to kill him without anyone knowing. But then what would she do without the Prince? Under Yautja law she would be transferred over to one of the Prince's brothers, and if he divorced her what would she do then? Better to live with the Devil you know. Lex then considered that maybe Kate was testing her. She hadn't been human since 1982. Despite her curiosity in human affairs, this Kate could have become a Yautja loyalist. She was in danger of being exposed.
"No, I can't do that. I'm carrying his child," Lex said lamely.
"Really? You're fertile?" Kate asked surprised.
"Why? You're not?" Lex wondered.
"The serum that changed me was not as advanced as the one that changed you. I am infertile," Kate revealed.
"I'm sorry," Lex said awkwardly.
Kate shook her head. "I don't mind. I can copulate without ever having to worry about having a dozen kids. I'm like an aunt of sort to my husband's other wives," Kate said.
Lex envied Kate's position. She wasn't sure how she would react to being a mother to alien monsters. "Just out of curiosity I would like to analyze the fetus," Kate said.
Kate brought Lex over to a laboratory room, and placed a device over her abdomen. The computer provided an analysis of the growing fetus. "It's in very early development," Kate noted.
"Anything abnormal about it?" Lex asked.
"It's too early to tell. At this stage it barely looks any different from a human fetus," Kate said. She then looked at the screen, as it analyzed the genetic make up of the fetus.
"What I can tell is that it has Yautja and human genetics," Kate revealed.
"What does that mean?" Lex asked.
"It appears it will have hybrid characteristics of Yautja and human. At this point, I can't tell how it will develop. It appears that your immune system isn't attacking the fetus, so that's good," Kate said.
The doors then abruptly opened, and a male worker stepped in. Kate immediately turned off the computer. "What is it?" she asked annoyed.
"The Prince requests your presence," he said.
"I run this facility. The Prince shall come to me when I decide," Kate said displeased.
"I shall inform him," the male said gruffly.
Kate walked over to the male worker. "How's that scar healing?" she asked.
"I wear it with pride," he said.
"It was the other side," Kate said, and then immediately slashed him through the lower jaw into his skull.
Kate quickly took off her bloody arm blade, and aimed her left hand at the corpse. Lex walked over to Kate wondering what was going on. "Stay back!" Kate ordered her.
The male Yautja became alive again hissing and growling at Kate. Its chest suddenly exploded revealing a large mouth with several rows of teeth. The mouth and the tentacles from it were green in color like the Yautja's blood. Kate fired at the creature with a concentrated laser from her left hand. The creature shrieked in pain, and then burst into flames. Kate stayed a good distance from the Thing as it crawled around. Kate continued to fire on the creature until only chard remains were left.
Kate then went over to the computer terminal, and activated the alarm system. The Prince and the Nobleman paused from their conversation as the alarms went off. Kate then went over to Lex, and took a blood sample. She then quickly took her own blood sample. She placed the tubes in a machine, and watched as test tubes glowed red. The green blood sizzled and then turned black.
"We're clear," Kate said to Lex.
Kate then opened a compartment filled with plasma cannons. "Take two," Kate said giving her the weapons. Lex placed the plasma cannons on her shoulders while Kate took a plasma rifle. "It will try to get to your face, so it can take over the brain. Put your mask on," Kate told her.
Kate and Lex placed their masks on, and exited the room. The two made their way towards the Prince and the Nobleman while keeping an eye out for any hostile presence. Kate inputted her security code, and entered the room. She immediately aimed her weapon at the Prince and her husband. The two males remained sitting unconcerned.
"Stay seated," Kate ordered them.
The two waited patiently as Kate took a blood sample from them both, and then placed it in the same machine that was in the other room. As she turned her back to the two males, Lex kept her plasma cannons on them. She would not hesitate to fire on either of them if they suddenly made a hostile move. Kate placed the tubes into the machine, and then watched as it started to glow red.
