Chuck and Sarah were sitting on the Malibu beach, they were sharing a kiss and all Chuck could think about was how his heart was pounding because it felt so good to kiss Sarah again, in that moment the feelings between them hadn't changed; her lips felt the same, the electricity he felt was still there and most importantly Sarah's touch sent fireworks all over Chuck's body. He could continue to kiss her forever, the longer they kissed, the longer he could forget about Quinn and the reality that he faced. In this moment Sarah was just Chuck's Sarah.

As their lips part, Sarah pulls her hand from Chuck's cheek, he could feel that something has changed. He was brought back to the reality of his wife no longer remembering him. Sarah turns to the ocean and whispers avoiding contact with his eyes, "I'm sorry, Chuck. I don't remember anything. I don't know if I will ever remember anything. This is useless, I have to go." Sarah squeezes Chuck's shoulder as she stands and makes her way to her car. Chuck drops his head in his hands and his brain almost laughs at his heart's hope. His hope that one kiss could fix everything. How naïve. Chuck runs halfway up the beach to meet Sarah, he says unapologetically, "Sarah, I know you don't remember me, but I think your heart does. I will always be here for you no matter what. And one day, I know that you will come back to me because you are my Sarah and nothing will ever change that." Chuck notices that people are starting to stare at him while taking in all of the surroundings he notices that Sarah is continuing the walk to her car. He doesn't want to come on too strong and decides to let her go.

Chuck knew that she would remember. He knew that Sarah felt what he felt, he knew that she loved him. He had never felt this way about anyone, he had never loved anyone this much, she was everything to him and he knew that this feeling doesn't happen to everyone. It's special if you are lucky it happens once in your life and he couldn't just let her walk away and take his heart with her. Even though she didn't remember and could not remember all of the things they had been through, he was certain that her heart couldn't forget these feelings. These were all the thoughts that were swirling around in Chuck's head as they left the beach. He was sitting in his Nerd Herder looking at the Malibu beach playing the last few moments in his head over and over. He was trying to be rational and think what the chances are that she would remember and he was giving himself the same pep talk to prevent him from spiralling out of control.

Before Chuck realises the time, the sun dropped below the horizon and it's time for him to go home. As he enters the door to their home, he is hit with all the photographs of Sarah and him, photos of them in love, photos of their life and their adventures. He makes his way to the Johnny Walker bottle that he keeps when he has had a really bad day and starts pouring the liquid down his throat. He makes his way to their bedroom and lies on their bed while smelling Sarah's pillow, at least it is a reminder of her and manages to drift to sleep.

While Sarah is driving away from the beach, her heart sinks, she so badly wanted to remember and be important to someone. She can't help but feel like Chuck isn't like anyone else, he isn't a spy at heart, he is just a normal guy that always wants to do the right thing. She drives back to the hotel room that Quinn booked for her. Once inside the hotel room, she collapses on the bed realising how empty she feels. Is this because her memories are gone or because she normally feels nothing? Thoughts are circling in her head and before she knows it she is scrolling through her contacts looking for Chuck's name. It's almost habitual for her, to speak to Chuck when, on a rare occasion, things become too much. Instead of calling Chuck, she scrolls through the pictures on her phone seeing faces that she doesn't recognise and stories she has no recollection of. She mumbles to herself, "Come on Sarah, someone must be familiar here. I need to remember something." After scrolling through several photos she puts her phone down and sits in a chair looking over the city. She almost becomes angrier than she has ever before. There was this man that seems to love her, a good man. And she felt something on that beach when he kissed her, it was like butterflies and she can't help but acknowledge that maybe she did have a life, a life with him. Maybe she wasn't just a spy that lived for missions. Maybe she had a family that she had always dreamed about. Her untrusting nature overcame her thoughts and stopped her ramblings. She picked up her phone again and called someone that she knew, someone that she could trust. "Carina, it's me. Do you need some help on a mission?"

"Great, I will be on the next flight to Washington."

The only thing that Sarah knew was that she was a spy and that's what she would do until she could figure out what to do about Chuck.

Chuck didn't sleep much the night and awoke to a breakfast of Cheese Puffs. He makes his way to the couch when he hears someone knocking at the door. Chuck shouts to the unknown visitor, "No one's home, go away."

He hears a bearded fellow respond, "Come on, Chuck. We know you are in there just let us in."

"She doesn't remember okay? I kissed her and the fairy tale kiss didn't work. It was a stupid idea and I have to give her space. So, I'm going to sit and eat my puffs until I can think of another plan."

"Bartowski, come on, I thought we were passed the phase of eating Cheese puffs to drown your feelings. Beckman has a mission for us. We got to get to Castle now." Casey responds in a stern voice.

"Casey, I'm not a spy right now. I'm too emotional and my partner is missing…"

Chuck hears footsteps leaving his door and making their way to the road. Chuck finds the photo from their engagement shoot, the one where Sarah is on his back and he is looking up at her. He places the frame in front of him and just stares in awe. He thinks about that day, where they thought that nothing could come between them because they loved each other. He replays the entire day in his head again and retrieves the bottle of whiskey from his bedroom. Today is a day of day drinking.

Casey makes his way to Castle, grabs his cup of bitter coffee and sits down in the briefing room as General Beckman opens the line of communication. "Colonel, we need to find out if Quinn was working with anyone. He has made the CIA look like a fool and frankly we need to bring this agency back together. Colonel, you are reinstated; the agency wants you and your team to follow all of the leads to Quinn – make sure everyone who knew about him and his plan is terminated. I need my best team on this: where are the others?"

"General, it's just me, I don't know where Sarah is and Chuck is probably in a Cheese ball coma by now."

"Well, find Walker and then we can take it from there."

"Roger that."

Casey makes his way over to the collection of guns in Castle and finds his favourite gun, he safely tucks it into the waist of his pants and clicks his knuckles into place. "If Walker doesn't remember anything then I have to be the old Casey to bring her in."

"Damn straight, Sir!" Morgan chimes in, Casey obviously looks a bit annoyed thinking to himself why this bearded buffoon is still around.

"I don't need you, Grimes, go help Chuck lick his wounds."

"But as you said, the old Walker can be unpredictable, don't you need some backup? I will sit in the van…"

"No, idiot I don't need you, I am going to speak to Walker like she is my partner and bring her to her senses." Morgan is heading out the door when Casey starts to feel a once of remorse, maybe he is hard on Grimes but Morgan needs to be better for Alex. And obviously, no one can know how Casey really feels about anyone, except Gertrude at least. Casey thinks to himself that he will make it up to Grimes eventually when everything is back to normal. He heads over to one of his computers and tracks Sarah's phone. At least this way he will be able to find her. He notices the signal is coming from the hotel room that Sarah lived in before she and Chuck became a couple. Under his breath, Casey mutters, "I'm coming partner."

Back in Echo Park, Ellie is on her way to Chuck's apartment. Ellie and Devon decided to remain in Burbank until everything was settled between Chuck and Sarah. They weren't just staying for Chuck, but more Sarah, she was their family and needed to make sure that she would be okay. Ellie was in two minds about bringing some sandwiches to her brother but figured he wouldn't want to eat. In the courtyard, she takes a deep breath and looks to the sky for some courage, "Please let him be okay. He needs to be okay." After taking a moment to collect her thoughts and brace herself for what she might find, she knocks on Chuck's door. "Chuck, it's me, are you okay?" There is no response, and she decides to enter the apartment. She notices how everything is neat and tidy – not what she was expecting. She was thinking there would be alcohol bottles everywhere and an indication that her brother has gone off of the edge. After searching the apartment and not finding Chuck, she heads back to her own apartment. An unsettling calm feeling washes over her. This isn't what she was expecting but she wasn't sure that it was any better. "Devon?"

"Devon, my brother isn't home, do you think that he is okay?" Devon was cooking dinner, in his cycling shorts without a shirt – a usual in the Woodcomb house. "Yeah babe, I think it's awesome that your brother isn't moping around. Look Sarah is good for him and he needs her but he should be proactive to get her back."

"Honey, where do you think he went?" Ellie was starting to pace, the protective sister trait was starting to show.

"I'm not sure babe, but he will turn up." Devon was starting to worry about Ellie and Chuck but he knew what this family needed from him was to remain Awesome. "I'm going to start a bath for you, it's going to help you chill out before dinner".

Casey arrives at Sarah's hotel room and can feel the cold atmosphere escaping the room into the passageway. He lays two confident knocks on the door and calls out for Sarah, "Walker, it's Casey, open up." From what Chuck told Sarah about the past few years, Casey is meant to be her partner but Sarah was still on high alert, the only Casey she knew was the ruthless one. Sarah grabs her gun and keeps it in her hand as she opens the door, "Casey, what do you want?"

"What? No small talk anymore? We used to be friends you know."

"I would never be friends with you."

"Me neither, but these past few years have changed us. Bartowski changed us. Beckman wants me to bring you in. She wants us to find the person that is responsible for ruining all of our lives."

"What happens if I don't come with you and who says they ruined my life?"

"I am offering you a chance to be my partner again; If you don't want to come with me and figure all of this out then stay here. It's your choice, Walker. And the one thing I do know is that before all of this, you were happy. You got married, Walker. Spies don't get married and no one can make you do anything against your will. You made this life because you wanted it." Casey started shuffling awkwardly, this was becoming too emotional for his liking. "I'm going to head out, you make your decision – I will give you a day to decide." Casey turned towards the door, heading back to Castle to start the mission.

As Casey was rounding the corner to the passage, Sarah blurted out a question: "Casey, did I love him?"

Casey stopped, took a deep breath and for a moment he sincerely thought. He turned to face Sarah, "More than you could ever love somebody." With that Casey closed the door.

Sarah was in turmoil, she felt something when Chuck kissed her. It might have been the moment on the beach that just took her over, or her brain was playing tricks on her. Or, it was a sign like Casey said that she loved him. Either way, she needed time to figure everything out. Maybe a mission with Carina was exactly what she needed to clear her head. Once the mission was over then she can return to Burbank and see what the future holds for her here. If there is a future here.

Chuck returned to the Malibu beach. He was just sitting and waiting. If someone had asked him what he was waiting for, he would deny waiting for anything. But secretly he was hoping that if he waits on the beach long enough, Sarah would come here for some air. He was hoping that somehow this very special place that meant so much to them had remained with her and he will always be able to find her here. Chuck starts twirling his wedding band on his finger and notices the anxiety that he feels. Normally he would stop at nothing to make sure that Sarah knows how he feels about her but this time was different. Sarah was more closed off than he had ever known her to be; because of this, he would rely on time to bring her back to him.

Chuck was ready to leave, the sunset was beautiful, it was the warmest orange hue he had ever seen. Kind of like the joy that Sarah gave him. "Ugh, that's so cheesy he thought to himself." A half-smile made its way to his face, he was going to write something on the beach for Sarah in case she came to the beach later. He started walking towards the sand that was closer to the ocean, he knows that he can't write anything with a lot of heart but he thought that something specific to them would work. He settles on "Listen to Feeling Good by Nina Simone - Chuck".

He gives himself a metaphorical pat on the back and leaves the beach. His heart is at ease as he drives home. Chuck settles on a plan, a plan that he knows will bring Sarah back to him. He won't pressure her, he won't constantly talk about the past. He will give subtle clues that hopefully will trigger a memory and the rest will be up to her.

Chuck didn't know that Sarah never went back to the beach that night. As the high tide came in, Chuck's message to Sarah disappeared but his hope of getting her back was still feverishly in his heart.
