"So….this is awkward," Sirius said, trying to look anywhere but at the little boy standing in his and Remus's room's doorway clutching his stuffed teddy bear.

"Daddy," Teddy said, looking at Sirius and his rather risque outfit that he was somewhat wearing, "what is Dadfoot wearing to bed?"

"Uh….um…." Remus searched for the right words to explain what was going on. Sirius could tell that he wasn't exactly itching to have the talk with his son at four years old.

"It's part of a costume," Sirius said, winking at Remus causing him to turn an attractive shade of pink. "See I was just showing the costume to your father. It's a Santa Claus costume. I was hoping to surprise you and the other children on Christmas morning. So you see, you can't tell anyone about the costume or it won't be a surprise, now will it?"

Teddy looked deep in thought for a moment and then shook his head.

"So you won't tell anyone about this, will you?" Sirius asked, pulling a robe around himself and kneeling to Teddy's level. "We don't want to ruin their Christmas because they think that Santa isn't real, do we?"

"He is real?" Teddy asked, clutching his teddy bear closer to himself. "I thought that Daddy was the one who put the presents under the tree."

"No," Sirius said, putting on his most serious face. "Your daddy doesn't put the presents under the tree. He allows Santa in and he puts them under the tree."

"But the story always has him coming in through the chimney," Teddy said, raising an eyebrow as he watching Sirius. "Are you calling the stories lies, Dadfoot?"

"No," Sirius said, laughter clear in his voice. "The stories aren't lies. They are true. But the year before last year Santa tracked soot all over the place and your father and I spent all that night cleaning it up. We wrote Santa a letter asking that he use the front door instead. He ruined your grandmother's antique carpet."

"Oh," Teddy said as though this was the answer to the question that he'd been expecting all along. He looked at his teddy and then back at Sirius. "Teddy wants to know if no one is supposed to see Santa, why are parents allowed to?"

"Uh…."

Remus stepped forward kneeling beside Sirius so that they were both on the same level as Teddy was now. He smiled and held out his arms for his son, pulling him in for a hug.

"Parents are allowed to see Santa because they've done more magic than little children," Remus replied. "They know enough about magic that they can sense when someone with as much magic in them as Santa is around. They sometimes even help Santa with what to get the kids."

"Like when I asked for Teddy last year?" Teddy asked, hugging his stuffed teddy bear close to him as the breeze blew the bare branches against the window.

"Exactly like that," Remus said, smiling and placing a kiss on the top of Teddy's head.

"Will I be able to see Santa when I get older too, Daddy, Dadfoot?" Teddy asked, looking between his two fathers with admiration and a hint of questioning behind his eyes. "Or will I always just have to take your word for it?"

"One of these days when you're old enough to have a child of your own, you'll be able to see Santa Claus every year," Sirius said, winking at Remus again.

"Really, Dadfoot?"

"Yes. Really."

Teddy looked over at his father in question. Only to find his father nodding his head. Teddy seemed to want to ask more questions about Christmas and Santa, and the whole Santa costume but he couldn't stifle the yawn that escaped him.

"Let's get you back to bed, little one," Sirius said, smiling as Teddy tried to argue but only came out with another yawn.

"But I've got more questions," Teddy whined as Remus and Sirius carried him back to his bed. Pulling the baby blue blanket that Molly had knitted Teddy for his birthday down and putting the little boy in bed. "Can I ask one last question?"

"Yes," Remus said, placing a kiss on Teddy's forehead as he pulled the blankets up to Teddy's chin. "But that's all until tomorrow, alright?"

"Yes, daddy," Teddy said, holding his teddy bear close to him nice and warm under the blankets. "Did Santa make you and Dadfoot get together?"

"Did you ask him to do that?" Sirius asked, raising an eyebrow at his stepson.

Teddy nodded. "Good night, daddy, Dadfoot," he said, snuggling into the pillows and blankets and falling quickly to sleep.

"Good night, Teddy," Sirius whispered, kissing the boy's forehead gently so as not to wake him once more. "You're a good kid."

As they back out of Teddy's room, Sirius turned towards Remus with a smirk while wriggling his eyebrows. "Where were we before we were interrupted?" he asked, taking Remus's hand and leading him back down the hall.
