Chara and Flowey walked through the empty roads of New Home. Chara still could not get over how they had killed everyone, and they desperately wanted answers. After taking several elevators through the CORE and Hotland, they finally reached where Flowey had said there would be help. The doors opened and the duo stepped inside the lab, which was practically abandoned.
"Um, you know what? You should probably wait here," said Flowey.
"Why?" asked Chara.
"Because you've killed almost everyone in the Underground! If you enter the hideout, everyone will either flee in terror without listening to you or they'll kill you without a second thought! And since you can't load your save, your death would be permanent!" he exclaimed.
"Fair point," replied Chara, "Well, I'll wait here while you go find her." At this Flowey popped Underground, leaving Chara alone with their thoughts. They had travelled through the Underground countless times with Frisk as their host. It was a mutual relationship, with Chara describing things to Frisk while Frisk led them through the Underground, which was helpful since Chara couldn't travel too far away from Frisk. Together, they had achieved the best ending possible by freeing all of the monsters.
And then Frisk reset.
Naturally, Chara was furious. After all they had been through, Frisk just threw it all away, and they never explained why. That was Chara's first clue that something was up. And then there was the dust as monster after monster fell at Frisk's hands. Chara begged them to stop, but Frisk refused. And then, sometime before they reached Toriel's home, their memory was just a blank until they had seen Flowey. They were pondering over this little fact when the 'bathroom' door finally opened as Alphys walked out with Flowey in her arms. She never looked Chara in the eye.
"Is he telling the truth?" she asked. Chara nodded. "I don't believe it for a second," she anarled in an attitude very unlike her. Alphys threw Flowey to the floor as she summoned a Gaster Blaster. "You killed all of my friends, everyone I ever cared for, and expect me to forgive you?!" she exclaimed.
"It wasn't me tho-"
"Save it. I was hoping I would get the chance to kill you myself. You killed the king, queen, Papyrus, Sans, Mettaton, Undyne...and for what? What purpose did it serve?! Now die." The blaster began to charge, but luckily Flowey came to the rescue.
"If you want to kill them, then you'll have to kill me too," he said calmly. Alphys turned to look at him with tears in her eyes.
"I know I created you on accident, and therefore you aren't technically a monster. Why, then, would you defend this...this...creature?!" she asked.
"Because they're my sister," he replied. Flowey slowly began to dawn the face of Asriel, causing Alphys to stumble and fall while trying to back away.
"Impossible. You can't be-"
"Yes, I am Asriel Dreemurr, the Prince of the Monsters. And this is Chara Dreemurr, my adopted sister and best friend." He smiled as he looked at Chara, who was also frozen in place. Alphys also began to turn her head, but Flowey continued, "Everyone knows that Chara genuinely cared about monsters, so why would they willingly kill all of them?" Alphys paused for a moment before responding.
"Well, let me get one thing straight. I know how you were resurrected," she said while pointing at Flowey, "but how did they get resurrected?"
"Well, let me explain," said Chara. And they told Alphys everything, from them being awakened when Frisk fell, to being like a guide to Frisk through the Underground, to the monsters being freed, the reset, and ended when Frisk started killing everyone. "I tried to stop them, but nothing would work. Next thing I know, I'm unconscious until meeting Azzy in the throne room."
"I'm going to be honest; I don't know if I fully believe you. All I know is this; everyone deserves a second chance. But why would you come to me?" asked Alphys.
"Well, we need your help. For some reason, Chara can't reset, and we were wondering if you could help us figure out why," explained Flowey.
"Alright, here's what we'll do. You two can stay upstairs, I'm not letting you enter the True Lab for two reasons. One, I still don't entirely trust you, and I'm not letting you go into a crowd of monsters so you can go all knife happy. Two, if I did trust you enough to let you down there, the monsters would tear you to shreds in an instant," explained Alphys, "I'll bring up some equipment so that I can run some tests on your SOUL. Does that sound okay?" Chara and Flowey looked at each other.
"Yeah, that works," said Chara.
"Great. Well, let's get some sleep, and we'll get to work tomorrow." Alphys quickly entered the elevator and returned downstairs while Chara carried Flowey upstairs to where they would be sleeping.
"You know, I think I'm going to stay up and keep an eye out," said Flowey, "I don't want her to come up and try to kill you in the middle of the night."
"Ok Asriel," replied Chara, "Welp, goodnight." And with that, they fell asleep for the first time in forever.
Author's notes:
Yeah, I forgot to do this in the first chapter lol. Anyway, here's Redemption! Now, for those of you wondering why I didn't do the sequel to my previous fic, it's because none of you voted! Because of this, I asked my friend what they wanted, and he wanted this, so this is what you get. Don't worry, I'll do the sequel after I finish this one. And if you have no idea what I'm talking about and this is the first time you're reading one of mine, the go check out The Anomaly under my profile!
Also, some of you will probably get upset because I declared Chara to be female. Look, deal with it, okay? If it makes you feel better, I'll try to continue referring to them with they/them pronouns. And one final thing before I go, it's going to be a while before I update this again because I am going on vacation for fall break. So, with that out of the way, I'll see you in the next chapter!"
