"So, what's the problem?" asked Chara as they walked through the door of the lab.
"Well, maybe I should just show you," replied Alphys. She pulled out a book titled Legends of the Monsters. She opened it to a chapter titled The Demon That Comes When People Call Its Name and handed it to Chara, indicating a certain passage she wanted them to read.
"The demon is said to be a creature as old as time itself. No one really knows how it came to exist, just that it is a creature of malice and destruction," read Chara, "It is said the demon used to roam this world in a physical form, and some have even said it was the cause for the war between humans and monsters. No one really knows what happened to the demon, but it has not been seen for many years. The only clue we have to its fate is from the second human that fell into our prison.
'According to the child, they were walking up Mt. Ebott for some much needed fresh air. About halfway up, they noticed several wizards surrounding a creature. The wizards seemed upset at the creature, and they cast a spell on it. However, the creature merely smiled, and swore that it would one day return before vanishing into thin air. The child, who was hiding in the bushes during all of this, waited to see if anything else would happen. Unfortunately, one of the wizards saw them and shouted. Normally, the child would have been patient and waited to see what would happen, but they were startled by the shout and ran without thinking, resulting in them tripping and falling into the Underground.
'Now, while the child couldn't tell us the exact spell used by the wizards, they claimed they at least knew what it did. It was used for only the evilest of criminals. The spell would reduce one to merely a thought, an apparition of their former self. If what the child says is true, then it is very likely the demon now resides in the subconscious, waiting for its chance to return." Chara looked up at Alphys, looking for some sort of explanation.
"Do you really not get it? If it is true that the demon potentially lives in the subconscious, then that must be how it possessed you!"
"But if it doesn't have a physical form, then how are we supposed to defeat it?" asked Chara.
"Well, that's the thing. You can't defeat it, at least not permanently. There's something I want to know first, before I tell you my theory. During your most recent vision with Undyne, did anything out of the ordinary occur?" Chara looked at Flowey before responding.
"Well, unlike the last vision, I didn't faint. I was merely in a sort of trance for a few minutes," they explained. Alphys grinned in response.
"That's perfect," she exclaimed, "Do you realize what this means? It means you're finally gaining more control over your body! I have a feeling that if you keep experiencing the visions, you'll eventually have the power to locate the demon within your mind. And who knows, maybe you'll also gain the ability to reset again."
"Well, that's convenient. So what are we waiting for? We should get to work finding our next pile of dust," snarked Flowey. Chara gave him a look that made him shut up.
"Well, if we're being honest, you probably aren't going to be finding a pile of dust next. Rather, you'll be finding a robot in pieces," replied Alphys.
"So, we're going to find Mettaton?"
"Yep. You should be able to find his remains in the CORE. Then from there, you can go straight to the Judgment Hall since it isn't much farther away. That's where you'll find Sans's dust,"
"Perfect," said Chara. They went to leave with Flowey, but they were stopped by Alphys.
"Chara, I only have one request, since this will probably be the last time we see each other if things go to plan. I just want to say, if you see the opportunity to reset, do it," she said.
"You do realize if I reset, you lose all of your memories, right?" asked Chara.
"I am well aware of this, and I don't care. I don't want to remember this timeline at all. You'll be doing me a favor by resetting and purging my memory of all of this," she replied.
"I see. Well, I just want to say thanks for the help. We wouldn't have been able to figure any of this out without you."
"The best way you can thank me is by resetting and ending this nightmare." Alphys went to walk away before turning around one last time and saying, "Good luck," as she stepped into the elevator.
Author's note: And so, Chara sets off to finally fix this whole mess. Will they succeed? Or will the demon continue to cause more pain and suffering? Find out in the next chapter of Redemption (Coming Soon)
