The two locked knife blades, each staring the other down. They both knew only one of them would escape alive. The demon threw Chara back, and sliced in their direction, but Chara swiftly dodged.
"You know, I think we should have a change of scenery, don't you?" said the demon.
"Yeah, I do," replied Chara. They watched as their surrounding slowly bended to their will, and grinned at the momentary look of fear on the demon's face as they were transported into the Judgement Hall. "Bring back any happy memories?"
"You really think this will do anything? Well then, if you're going to play that way..." the demon summoned two Gaster Blasters and aimed them at Chara. "Then fine!" Chara barely had enough time to jump out of the way before the blasters fired their beams.
"Say, that reminds me, how are you able to control things in here if this is my mind?" asked Chara.
"Are you serious? I took over your mind! Of course I would be able to summon things in here! I have almost as much power as you do."
"Almost?" and then an idea came to Chara. They thought about how everyone was counting on them, and how this battle would determine the fate of the universe. As they concentrated, Frisk appeared next to them, and the ropes disappeared as well.
"Chara?" muttered Frisk in disbelief.
"Don't mention it. We've got bigger problems right now," they replied.
"Impossible! Now you really must die!" shouted the demon in pure fury. Fortunately, a fireball came in from the right, and Asriel entered the battle.
"Hey guys," he said casually, as if the three of them were meeting up for a playdate or something.
"Wait, how is Asriel here?" asked Frisk.
"Well, he's not really here. It's more like a mental projection. Still, we need all of the help we can get. Here, take this," said Chara as they threw Frisk a Frying Pan. "Also, that reminds me, you said I couldn't die in my mind?"
"What, did you think I was telling the truth? I had full intentions to kill you, I just wanted a nice little chat first," replied the demon. He appeared to assess the situation as he looked at the three children. "Well, this just got interesting. We have an escapee, a cry baby, and a freak. Come on then, do your worst!" Asriel summoned lightning where the demon stood, but they jumped out of the way before it came down. Chara threw several knives in their direction, but the demon dodged those as well. Frisk was attempting to talk to the demon, but to no avail. "I have no use for you, Frisk! Chara is the one I really want..."
"Now, what's so special about me?" asked Chara.
"Do you really not get it? Why do you think we share a name? It was destiny. We were meant to fight each other from the moment you were born. This has to be a special occasion, and that means you have to die!"
"Alright, that's fair."
"Now, let's go on a little trip down memory lane, shall we?" asked the demon. He summoned what at first appeared to be a dark figure with bright red eyes, but Chara soon figured out it was an evil version of Toriel. Asriel and Frisk rushed to help, but the demon summoned cages around them. "If you two want to live, you'll stay put," warned the demon. He turned towards the Shadow Toriel. "Kill them," he commanded. The Toriel turned towards Chara and summoned a barrage of fireballs, which Chara barely managed to dodge. Suddenly, a dark Papyrus was there as well, and he turned their soul blue, making it even harder to dodge all of the bones and fire.
"Is that all you've got?" challenged Chara.
"Chara, don't!" shouted Frisk. Suddenly, a gag was shoved in their mouth.
"I said no interruptions! And to answer your question, Chara, not by a long shot," taunted the demon. He summoned a dark Undyne and a dark Alphys. Undyne turned Chara's soul green, while Alphys sent lightning bolts in their direction. Chara was starting to become overwhelmed, and Frisk could tell. They looked around, attempting to figure out some way to escape, before they realized something. Slowly, they concentrated, and the cage and gag suddenly disappeared. They watched the demon appear behind Chara, ready to strike them down, but Frisk refused to let it happen. They ran and leapt between the two, and Chara turned just in time to see Frisk get slashed down the front.
"NOOOOOOO!" they shouted. They threw knives in all directions and instantly killed all of the dark monsters. They watched Frisk collapse to the floor, and caught them just in time. Frisk was covered in blood, and it was pouring out by the minute.
"Ch-Chara..."
"Frisk, don't talk..."
"Chara...take care of the monsters for me..." Chara was forced to watch as Frisk's soul rose from their body, and shattered into a million pieces. They heard the demon laughing maniacally in the background, and felt as the knife flew through the air into their back. They collapsed, and felt their soul begin to crumble.
But it refused.
They stood up, and turned to the demon. Wordlessly, they summoned thousands of knives all pointed in his direction. He actually seemed startled for a moment.
"Go to hell," was all Chara said. The knives flew, and almost every single one met it's mark. The demon became a pincushion, and could barely stand up. Chara looked to their side and saw the reset button appear. They put their hand over it, and the demon began to panic.
"No, don't! Do you even know what could happen if you reset? Where will you go? You never made a save point, so where will you reset to? The timeline could be erased for all you know!"
"Honestly, I don't care. As long as I never have to see you again, I don't care. And if you ever think of messing with me or my friends again...you will have a bad time." threatened Chara as they pushed the button.
Chara awoke on a bed of golden flowers. They sat up, and looked around for a moment. This was where they had fallen down all of those years ago. Was it possible...? They noticed a familiar goat monster coming around the corner, and he teared up as he saw them.
"Chara...?"
"Asriel...?" The two embraced like it had been years since they had last seen each other, which technically peaking it had been. "So, I take it you remember everything, huh?" said Chara.
"Yeah, I remember everything. I don't really know how I feel about it yet, though," he replied. "What happened, anyway? You were standing during the vison for a good ten minutes, but then you suddenly fell over. It almost looked like you were having a bad dream..."
"Yeah...you could say that. I'll tell you about it on the way back."
"Yeah...speaking of which...do you think we should tell mom and dad about everything, or keep it a secret?"
"I think we can tell them soon, but for now let's just keep it between us," they replied. The two of them stood and held hands as they walked through Home, and Chara was determined to do things right this time around.
Author's note: I think this is a new record for time between chapters. I woke up this morning and got right to work because I was so excited. I'm planning to post an epilogue sometime later today, so keep an eye out for that. I'll do the usual shoutouts and stuff in that chapter. Welp, time to get to work!
