A Short Time Later In Haileah
"Umm… Hello?" Greeted Arlene Shram in confusion as she had never seen this man before.
The man in front of her fidgeted a little. "Hi, is Hannah here?" He asked hopefully.
For Dexter had looked in areas he'd thought she'd be at and had turned up nothing. Leading him to Arlene's as his last best hope to find Hannah. Arlene looked at him suspiciously with narrowed eyes. "Who wants to know?" She questioned.
"Dexter, Dexter Morgan." Came his reply and her eyes widened.
"The blood guy my girl's been seein'? The same one who made her cry last night?"
He winced but nodded. "Yeah, that's… That's me. Is she here? I've tried everywhere I could think of to find her and you are the only option left." He told her.
And if he sounded just a tad bit desperate? Well, Dexter didn't think he could be blamed! Arlene studied him for what felt like a very long time for the man before she finally spoke. "Its against my better judgement, but… She's out in the back with my kids. Follow me."
Dexter felt relief go through him as he followed her through the house to the back yard where Hannah was chasing around Arlene's kids and partly doing so as a way to keep her mind off of Dexter and their last conversation. "Hey Han, you've got some company!" Called out Arlene and her friend stopped and froze where she was at the sight of Dexter himself.
"Hey, why'd you stop, Aunt Hannah!?" Asked one of the kids in confusion.
"Kids, let's go inside and give your Aunt and her friend some privacy, okay?"
The kids groaned at that but did as requested, leaving the two lovebirds on their own. "You're, you're here. How?" Wondered Hannah while trying not to be hopeful lest she get her heart broken again.
"Uhh, I got the address from the file we have on her." Dexter told her.
"O-Oh."
Dexter took a step forward and she took one back, uncertain for his reasons for being there. Her doing so bothered the man but he knew he couldn't blame her for it. "Hannah… I'm, I'm sorry. I'm sorry for hurting you last night when I was lost and uncertain about things."
Her breath was caught as she stared at him in wide eyed disbelief and some hope. "Hannah, I'm one hundred percent certain about you and the future I know I want to have with you. The future I've envisioned myself having with you. I love you." He told her honestly and sincerely.
Hannah's hands covered her mouth as tears glistened in her eyes and when he stepped up to her, she didn't move away. Giving the man some hope in the process and the next thing he knew, he was being hugged and kissed by her. "Oh, Dex!"
"I love you, too." Breathed out the very happy woman seconds later.
Her heart bursting with pure happiness that he had come back to her in the end. Effectively choosing her by doing so and making Brian Moser turn over in his grave. Her Dexter breathed a sigh of relief as their foreheads touched and they stayed happily in the other's arms. Both started to hear calls of 'kissy face!' from a smiling Arlene's kids but neither minded it as they held one another. "Dex, please… Don't ever hurt me like that again." Requested the Blonde in a whispered voice.
He took a deep breath before responding. "I can't promise you that, but I can try my best not too. Hurting you I've found is like hurting myself…"
I guess it would be unreasonable to make him promise that but his best is something I'll happily take. I want his future for us. To… To be a mother to his kids, HAVE his baby and BE his wife and hopefully for a really, REALLY long time.
The intense kiss Hannah gave him told him that was a very suitable answer for her much to his relief!
Author's Notes: Arlene, it seems, is a very underutilized character so it was kinda nice to use her here.
