Chapter 5

Disclaimer: So I had been meaning to wait til I had more written up for this but that hasn't happened yet so I thought I'd just go ahead and post what I do have. Same for 'Taking Time'.

A Few Days Later

"Well look what the cat fuckin' dragged in." Debra said in her own form of greeting towards her 'Tard of a brother as she sat down at the visiting table in the Rehab facility she's currently in.

"How are you, Deb?" Asked Dexter instead of rising to the bait like she wanted him to do.

Debra scowled at him. Fucker.

"Never been better." She told him sarcastically as God could she use a drink or five!

"Good to hear. Just wanted to come by and let you know that LaGuerta's no longer at Miami Metro."

He watched as his sister's eyes widened in surprise over being told that and wondered why Quinn hadn't told her himself yet since he is aware of the two talking from time to time. Mostly thanks to Quinn himself having told him sometime ago. "Wow, you go three months without seeing me and then come and drop this bomb on me. Wow. What'd you do, take her out yourself?"

Though she said that last part somewhat quietly, it still annoyed Dexter. "First, I figured after the last time I was here it was for the best I not be around while you're in here. Secondly, no, I didn't. She got herself fired after hauling me in after Hector Estrada was found murdered and she thought I was behind it since she thought I'm the Bay Harbor Butcher." He told her with a slight hint of annoyance in his voice.

"Who the fuck is Hector Estrada?" Debra asked curiously, deciding not to touch the Moniker the Media had given her brother some years ago.

Granted, Estrada's name sounded vaguely familiar to her… "One of the three men responsible for the murder of my biological mother."

"Oh, shit. Did you?"

"No. It was someone else that also had a grudge against him. I actually shook their hand after I learned who'd done it." Freely admitted Dexter to her shock and surprise.

"Are you shitting me!?"

"Nope." He replied.

Of course that had gotten him a number of looks from the others at work but he honestly didn't care what they thought of that moment. "Damn. I guess I'd do something like that too if it happened to me."

"But… I'm glad you finally got some closure on that chapter of your life."

"Thanks, Deb."

"Don't think I'm not still pissed at you though."

Dexter couldn't help but laugh some as he shook his head. "Yeah, I figured, Sis."

"Guess you aren't as much of a 'Tard as I thought you were." Debra told him with a small smile on her lips.

He shook his head again at her. "No, guess not." Was his soft reply.

They'd talk a little while longer and thankfully it wouldn't be one that was all that tense thanks to the fact they avoided the subject of Hannah and Arlene. Or, well, Dexter knew better than to mention their names anyway and figured the next visit would probably not be as great. But that was a bridge for him to cross when the time came.

Author's Notes: Hopefully that was a conversation I did well in folks' eyes.
