Barry's pov

I awoke that morning, I just stared at the ceiling, I felt a smile come across my features as I remembered last night, I turned towards Kara and I couldn't control the smile spreading further across my features, I just imagined how stupid it must of looked if someone were to see it.

I had to admit I was starting to fall for Kara, and not just for her physical appearance, don't get me wrong, she's beautiful, but the way she treated me, was with so much kindness, with so much understanding, and to someone who just fell in to her life. She trusted me almost immediately, she didn't have to, but she did, she was so easy to talk to, I never had someone I felt so comfortable with.

over the last couple of days I was trying to convince myself that I wasn't falling for her, that I was just grateful for the hope she put back into my life, I was in a state of despair when I arrived and she pulled me out of it effortlessly, I sighed, I knew I was falling for her too quick, but I guess that's what true love is, someone who you can click with as soon as you meet, someone where it's so easy to be yourself around, I sighed again and shook my head out of this thought process, but I couldn't fall for her, she was already making me feel like I belong here, and I don't belong here, sooner or later I will return home, most likely to never see her again, I couldn't help but internally wince at that, but I couldn't get attached to this earth, I had to distance myself, the question is could I distance myself from Kara.

I Had not noticed when Kara had woken up, as I was to busy arguing with myself, when I did notice I saw the confusion in her eyes "why are you frowning?" she had addressed to me, I had trouble coming up with an answer to that, I had lost my ability to speak, I must of looked like a gaping fish as I tried to find the words, after all I couldn't tell her about my internal dialogue, she frowned when I didn't come out with an answer, finally finding my voice I answered "I'm worried" I know it wasn't the complete truth, but it wasn't a lie either, I couldn't lie to Kara, it was at that moment I knew I wouldn't be able to distance myself from her, in other words I'm screwed.

Her look changed from a frown to a sympathetic smile, she sat up in bed and leant against the headrest of the med bed, I followed suit and looked into her eyes, I always got lost in her eyes, they were like a vast ocean, and I was more than willing to swim in that ocean, "don't worry Barry I will get you home" she had grabbed my hand as she said that, I sighed and realized I've done that a lot this morning, I did want to go home but I didn't want to leave her, the only reply I could muster was a measly "thanks".

I thought it was about time to change the topic "so what other powers do you have, I know you have super strength, super speed and that your pretty much indestructible" I said it so fast out of excitement that one might of thought I had my super speed back.

I saw Kara smirk at me "so on top of that I have laser vision, x-ray vision and freeze breath" I was stunned, why didn't my earth have a Supergirl, when I saw Kara raise an eyebrow at me, I managed to cough into my hand to hide my amazement before I finally replied " so not a lot then" I couldn't help but tease her, and when she laughed the butterflies returned to my stomach, I couldn't help but smile back at her.

Kara gave me a playful punch to the shoulder as she got up "as much as I would love to spend all day messing around with you Barry, some of us actually have jobs to get to" I mocked a hurt expression "I have a job" I exclaimed, "just no way to actually get to it".

Kara opened her mouth to say something but she never got the chance as an Alarm went off, it was at that moment Alex walked in, she looked at me and gave a slight nod of the head to me in acknowledgment which I returned, she then addressed Kara "west national city Bank just been robbed, Supergirl your up" Alex didn't wait for Kara's reply as she left the room, Kara glanced at me and then effortlessly picked up the med bed before walking towards the door, just before she reached the door however she turned to face me, with one of those bright smiles that I was beginning to adore "bye Barry", with that said she left with a little skip to her step with the med bed still under her arm.

As Kara was no longer here I found no reason to stay in my room, I decided it was time for breakfast and headed towards the food court at the DEO, as I went to open the fridge to see what was inside an arm came into my vision and slammed against the fridge door which worked effectively to close the tiny gap I had made when opening it.

I turned around and to my surprise I saw Alex glaring at me " so what were you and my sister doing here last night, you seem awfully close" I couldn't help the shiver that ran down my spine, I quickly replied as I couldn't see it going well if I made Alex wait "her window was broken" I said dumbly as if that was an answer.

Alex looked at me probably expecting me to continue and when I didn't, she continued for me "and? That does not explain why you were sleeping together" her glare only got worse, again I rushed to get my words out "she offered me her couch so I wouldn't be lonely staying at the DEO but her window was broken so I was forced to stay at the DEO" again Alex looked at me if I was stupid, this time before Alex could get a word in I further explained the situation "I was having nightmares, Kara been helping me and must of thought it was a good idea to stay with me."

Alex continued to glare at me for what felt like hours, but was only seconds, her arm finally fell loosely to her side freeing me from the fridge, she sighed " I don't like it, if you become her friend, or worse her boyfriend, you will break her heart when you leave, I don't want my sister going through that, so I'm going to ask you once, keep your distance from Kara" Alex walked of not letting me reply, I knew she was right, but I didn't think I'd be able to grant her request, suddenly I wasn't hungry, I sat in my room, thinking about what I could do.

Kara's pov

Today was a good day, I haven't felt like this in a long time, being with Barry eased the pain of losing my aunt, some days it made me believe that I might actually be able to forgive Hank, I wasn't there yet, but it was possible, even the robbery at the bank didn't bother me, it was hardly an issue just some humans who didn't get the memo that I was bullet proof.

The morning was going rather slow, and found myself tempted to go see what Barry was up to, before I could make up my mind, I saw Alex talking to Winn "um Alex, what's up?" Kara saw Alex turn towards Winn before turning back to Kara "actually I came for Winn, see Barry is a great asset but his knowledge isn't going to cut it here, we need someone with the knowledge on python 6 malware encryption, Barry knows a bit but not nearly as much as Winn, you can tag along if you want"

I scrunched my nose a bit, since It bothered me that I wasn't the one needed, usually it wouldn't bother me but since I am now Ms. Grants second choice I guess I just wanted someone to need me, but It quickly went away as I realized it meant I could spend some time with Barry "I'll meet you guys there I just need to get my stuff"

As I was gathering my stuff I noticed James walk over to me with an eyebrow cocked in confusion, I decided to voice the un-spoken question " the DEO needs Winn's help to stop the hacker" I saw James make an O shape with his mouth in understanding.

I then remembered that James tried fixing his relationship with Lucy yesterday and I couldn't hold back my curiosity "so how was yesterday?" at first I could see confusion flash across James's eyes before realization came over him, it must of went well because even before he started speaking he was smiling like a fool " it went really well, we went for food after and it was amazing, I haven't felt this close to her in months, maybe even years" I could tell how much he meant it with how much passion he was putting into his words.

I then noticed him looking at the floor In almost shame "what's the matter", I couldn't help but ask, only seconds ago he was so passionate, what happened in those seconds to make him like this "I can't help you with your Supergirl outings for a while, I love helping you but I need to fix things with Lucy, I'm sorry" I stood there In shock for a few seconds, I could see James getting restless for an answer, I suddenly burst out laughing, I saw James look at me with confusion so I explained " oh thank Rao, I thought it was something serious, James your always welcomed on my team, if you need to take sometime to fix your relationship I understand" I could see James physically relax at this, did he really think I was going to be annoyed. As I finished collecting my belongings, I waved bye to James and flew to the DEO.

Before I entered the communication room, where I assumed Winn and Barry was working, which of course meant Hank and Alex kept watch, an Idea popped into my mind, I quickly pulled out my phone "hey Kal, I was wondering if I could pop by the fortress of solitude, it might have some answers we need" i pocketed her phone and continued into the room.

As I entered the room I saw Barry with a bag of chips, he was talking to Winn in between bites, it made me happy that they were getting along, Alex saw me enter and motioned me to talk outside, I was confused at this, what did she want to talk about, for a few seconds we stood there in an awkward silence, my guess she was trying to find the words to say, I was knocked out of my thoughts when Alex took a deep breath " I don't know how close you and Barry are, but it looks like you like him" I blushed crimson at that, I wasn't use to the bluntness, I was about to reply when Alex continued "you just lit up like a Christmas tree so don't try to deny it, look it's none of my business, just remember he's not from this universe, sooner or later he's going to leave and you will never see him again."

I was angry, but it only lasted a second, I knew Alex was just looking out for me, before I replied I calmed myself down enough to speak with a level mind, "look Alex I know your just looking out for me, and I appreciate it, but I'm an adult, I know what I'm doing" I saw Alex sigh, she turned to go back into the room, before she did she turned to face me one last time "just be careful."

Before I could follow Alex back into the room my phone buzzed, I quickly pulled it out and grinned when it was from Clark, "sure thing little cuz" I hate it when he calls me that "the key is under the front mat" I continued to read and noticed he put the winky face at the end.

As I re-entered the room and was grinning from ear to ear, I walked up to Winn and Barry, I noticed how they have stopped talking, at first I thought something might of happened, I then realized that wasn't the case, Winn was concentrating on the task at hand whilst Barry was observing, intent on learning from him.

I tapped Barry's shoulder and he immediately jumped out of his chair in surprise, I couldn't help but laugh, "sorry" I said in between fits of laughter "I didn't mean to scare you" I saw Barry glare at me, I knew it was playful one as I saw the playfulness in his eyes, he couldn't keep it up long before he had to smile back at me, "do you want to go somewhere top secret with me" I asked playfully, I saw the curiosity burn behind his eyes "sure" he slowly replied, I grinned again "good, we will have to get you some winter clothing first though" I saw the confusion on his place but decided not to pay it any attention, after all he will see it for himself soon enough.

Barry was in my arms as I flew across the arctic wasteland of the north pole, we couldn't sight see however since we were here for information, as I landed at the fortress entrance I could hear Barry muttering but couldn't quite make it out, that was until I focused my super hearing, "damn it wish I was immune to the cold, I'm a speedster, cold is my greatness weakness" I heard him mumble in disdain though he continued "why are we at a massive icicle anyway" I rolled my eyes at him as I replied "it's not a frozen icicle, it's the fortress of solitude" I could tell he forgot about my hearing as he stood there gaping like a fish, I couldn't help but giggle.

I looked around for the key and as Kal had said it was under the front mat, at first I thought he was stupid for leaving it where anyone could pick it up, that was until I actually picked it up, it was heavy, too heavy for most people to lift, now I got why he just left it there, I placed it in the key hole and the door opened.

I glanced at Barry as I entered his muttering had stopped, his eyes were fall of excitement and he was stood there in awe it was at that point I noticed Kal's pod "oh my god that's Kal-El's pod, I mean Clark, well I guess you wouldn't know who either of them are" i didn't get a response from Barry and I was wondering if he even heard me, apparently he did, as about a minute later he replied "nope don't know a Clark" I rolled my eyes, it must have been a lot to take in for him.

As I walked further into the fortress Barry finally snaped out of his mesmerized state "why do I get the feeling you've never been here before?" he asked questionably, I shrugged my shoulders "he invited me" I paused as I reminisced about the time Kal pretty much begged me to come "a lot actually, but I always came up with an excuse not to come" I saw Barry's questioning look so I continued "I thought it would remind me of home." Barry didn't reply and just rested his hand on my shoulder and gave me a reassuring squeeze.

We walked over to the console in the middle of the room, "how do you get this to work" I mumbled mostly to myself" Barry however didn't get that information "and you're asking me" I heard Barry exclaim just to the right of me, I rolled my eyes and scoffed at him "rhetorical question" I replied without looking back at him.

Not long after we finished, I heard a few familiar beeping sounds and a floating robot made it way over to me "hello, Kar Zor-El. How can I help you today?" it addressed to me, before I could even think of a reply I heard Barry gasp "that's so cool" he exclaimed, I rolled my eyes but couldn't help myself smile at his child like excitement, before Barry had a chance, I started answering the question I knew he was dying to ask " we had these back on krypton, they served as robotic helpers" as I looked back at Barry I saw he was wearing the goofiest grin.

I turned my attention back to Kelex and took a more personal persona on "Kelex, can you tell us anything about an obnoxious blue alien species that work with computers?" in their usual robotic tone Kelex replied "your description matches the Coluans, a highly intelligent race from the planet Colu. They served as supercomputers on krypton, responsible for running day to day operations" I was still processing the information when Barry spoke up "well that explains the cyber terrorism" he must of gotten serious as Kelex was speaking.

Without replying to Barry's thoughts, I again turned my attention back to Kelex and asked my question "were any of them prisoners on Fort Rozz?" I decided this was the best question to get the most answers, Kelex raised one finger as he began to talk "one, her name is Indigo, a descendant of the Brainiac clan, she was captured while attempting to shut down Krypton's defense system."

I heard Barry take a step forward before addressing Kelex "so what exactly was she planning?" now that's a good question I couldn't help but think, I turned my eyes back to Kelex and waited for an answer " her objective, terminate the entire planet's population" I turned my worried eyes on too Barry and his expression mirrored mine, if she was planning to do this to Earth then we were in trouble, Kelex continued not noticing the tension in the room "she was deemed the most dangerous person ever put in Fort Rozz" at this point me and Barry wasn't paying attention anymore.

As we walked away we both began to speak at the same time "we should let the others know" I couldn't help but crack a smile when we said the same exact thing, a second later it was gone, I picked Barry up and flew out of the fortress of solitude, only stopping to make sure the door was locked.

As we arrived back at the Deo I told Alex about the information we learned about Indigo, and that she might be targeting our military, I could of went to Hank, and probably should of went to Hank with this information but just seeing him makes my blood boil. After our brief conversation Alex went of to make a few calls to the military to see if we could get any leads.

We were back in the communication room with Winn as Alex walked back in with a panicked expression on her face, she came over to where me, Winn and Barry was sat, and of course as soon as Alex walked over so did Hank, "so Indigo wasn't looking to embarrass cheating spouses, or disrupt traffic or even Bank attacks, she was covering for the fact that the general was her target all along, she was looking to declassify his entire online footprint, that was the only way to tell" she paused until Hank asked the question we were all thinking "tell what?" then Alex continued "which high-ranking official in National city has access to nuclear missile launch sites" she finished with a solemn expression, "oh no" was all I managed to get out, Barry didn't have the same problem that I had and he voiced his thoughts " she's going to nuke the city" even though we all knew that as soon as it was out, it made us all feel uncomfortable.

Alex walked to the front of the room where their was a wall of monitors on them, she got a map up on one of them and began to speak "fort Pemberton is the nearest nuclear missile silo" Alex paused, Hank however didn't let her catch her breath and continued for her " but it's completely off the grid, no internet access, that way no one can remotely hack in and launch a missile" I almost chuckled when Alex began to speak again, they somehow made it look like they rehearsed it like a speech, "and that is why she needed the general, to use him to get him into the base" she finished, I almost expected Hank to begin his side of the speech again but I was surprised when Barry entered the conversation "like a trojan horse" this was the first time looking at Barry since this conversation began, it shocked me about how serious and calm he is, but then I remembered he must of also been through a lot of his own battles and crisis's. I decided to enter the conversation myself at this point "where is general Mathers now?"

As soon as Alex told me he was at fort Pemberton, I was out the door, only noticing the worry and frustration written across Barry's face, I couldn't console him now however, I had a job to do.

As I arrived, I immediately ripped open the door and found Indigo standing there with a smug look on her face, I stepped in and noticed the unconscious soldiers on the floor, or what I hoped was unconscious, I waisted no time getting into a fist fight, I tried for a right jab, left jab then right hook but she blocked all of them, she tried going for my throat with her claws which I easily saw and grabbed her by her wrist stopping her momentum, "it's over Indigo" I told her, but she still had the cocky grin on her face, her reply was as equally cocky "for the human race? I agree." She swung at me again which I managed to dodge but she wasn't done there she went for another swing, which again I managed to dodge, but my joy didn't last long as I wasn't the target, she had hit her target which was a red button that would launch the nukes.

Letting a bit of anger out I grab Indigo by the back of the neck and ram her head against the console twice, she seemed un faxed by this however and came back swinging I dodged both if her jabbed but got tripped up when she dropped to the floor and swept her leg towards me taking my legs out from under me, I could hear the missile's getting ready to launch, I had to try and stay calm, panicking would only make me make mistakes.

I kicked Indigo off of me and she tumbled backwards, I tried to stamp on her as she was on the floor, she rolled backwards and back onto her feet, immediately swinging her claws at me again, she managed to get me in to a choke hold, which made my eyes go wide, I quickly calmed myself and elbowed her in the stomach making her keel over in pain, I then slammed her back into a wall as hard as I could as she still had a hold of me, we both dropped to the floor as I tried to wrench her arms apart, which was proving to be a bit of a struggle.

As she held me on the floor a panel opened up in the wall in front of us, showing that the missile was launching, as I sat their panic took a hold of my heart, it didn't help when Indigo began to speak, "I calculate the death toll at 7 million, give or take" I couldn't bring myself to give her an answer, I was more focused on the computer giving a countdown "three, two, one" the computer finished as the missile launched.

I quickly collected myself and elbowed Indigo when she let her attention slip, she released me from her hold on me and I immediately flew after the missile, "I'm too late, I shouted into the comm's" I needed to let the DEO know there was a missile heading straight for them, I tried pushing it off cause, for a second I thought it worked, until it corrected it's cause and was heading toward national city once again.

I realized right then I couldn't stop it by myself, "Hank I need your help" I gasped out still chasing the rocket "we're tracking you with the ICBM" I heard Hank say over the comm's, I smiled a little at how calm he was, it made me relax, not a lot, but relax a tiny bit, which gave me time to think, we're going to stop this thing Kara, together" I nodded, even if no one could see it, "you need to shut down it's onboard flight computer" he continued.

I flew faster to catch up with the missile once again this time grabbing on to it, it was at this time Hank began to speak again "rip off the trap door to access the flight computer" I don't waste any time and immediately do what he says once the panel was off I heard Hank continue "input the kill code 1-1-7-4-7", I found it difficult trying to input the code whilst trying to keep up with the speed of the missile, after I put in the first two numbers I lost my grip and fell off of the missile, I fly faster than I ever had before to catch up with it again as I was losing time, I caught up with it, and managed to input the kill code, I floated there sighing in relief as the missile deactivated.

My short celebration was cut short however when Hank once again spoke up "Supergirl we got a new problem, she put a timer on the detonation, it will blow in one minute, you need to fly it high and quick" I shot straight for the rocket and just before I got their Alex came over the comm's sounding panicked "Supergirl, if you can't get away from the explosion in time, you might die, I'm not sure even you could survive and explosion like that" she finished, I could hear the concern in her voice but I had no time to console her now, "if that's the cost I got to pay to protect my city then so be it" I turned of my comm's knowing she'd argue the point if I left them on.

Barry's pov

Is this how my team fills whenever I'm in battle, this feeling of uselessness, sat here without the power to help, I briefly heard Winn talking about a virus he developed years ago that could stop Indigo but I could barely concentrate on it at this moment, I heard Hank give Kara the warning of the timer, I could barely hear myself think with how loud my heart beat was beating, I snapped back to my surrounding's when I heard Alex say that Kara might die, then when I heard Kara say "if that's the cost I got to pay to protect my city then so be it", something inside me snapped, I could feel the lightning source through me, I glanced at the map to see Kara's location, I had a plan, it might work, it might not, if it does we both walk away and live, if not at least we won't be alone, I ran, faster and faster, I then realized I never ran this fast before, usually I'd be excited but now was not the time.

I arrived at the scene just as Kara caught the missile, good, she was just centimeters above the water, now I don't have to find away to get to her height, I ran as fast as I could, and for a second I thought I saw my lightning flash blue, but I dismissed that idea almost immediately, I jumped onto Kara's back and wrapped my leg's around her torso.

Kara turned around obviously surprised, " what are you do…" she began but I interrupted her "do you trust me" I asked trying to sound serious, I must of succeeded as she immediately stopped what she was saying, she looked me in the eyes and nodded as she whispered "of course I do", I smirked at her "then fly Supergirl" no more was said after that.

We flew for about half a minute when I saw Kara press something in her ears "Hank how long till it explodes?" I heard her ask, I leaned in closer to try and hear the reply, which I did, only just, but I heard it "15 seconds" was all Hanks said, I felt Kara put on the speed as she flew faster, "5 seconds Supergirl" I heard Hank's quiet voice exclaim, "throw it" I shout as loud as I can, as soon as the missile left her hands I started vibrating, moment of truth, would my plan work.

the answer is both yes and no, as soon as it exploded I half expected to get blown back, but as I was phasing the blast just passed through us and so did all the fire and debris, there was one thing I didn't take into account however, the physical damage did no damage what's so ever to us, but I'm not Kryptonian, the heat from the explosion felt like it was melting the entirety of the right side of my face, since that was the side facing the explosion, I bit my lib not allowing myself to scream, I needed to keep phasing until the explosion stopped, what felt like hours but was only mere seconds, finally it was over, I saw Kara turn around and smile at me, which quickly turned to terror, she was saying something, but I couldn't hear it, darkness was beginning to take over my vision, I let go of Kara and started falling towards the earth, the last thing I saw before the darkness take over was Kara crying as she flew to catch me.

That's that chapter done, I really enjoyed writing this one, hope you enjoy it too.
