DISCLAIMER: I do not claim to be the creator of the My Hero Academia manga or anime series. I had absolutely no part in any creation of the series, and I'm just a dedicated fan of this series who has taken my time to create this fanfiction. I do own my OCs and of course myself.

Author Notes: This is about a light girl and her dark past and how she struggles to get over it. This is an AU of the series, BIG BIG change is that Izuku Midoriya moved when he was young so that the family could be together where his father is working. So yes, he isn't the 9th "One for All" bearer. Who will be though? Hint it might be this little girl. I know many won't like this and if so please skip over this story. I am writing this for me. This is rated M, because of language, violence and some dark themes. Thank you everyone who has or will review my fic.

Chapter 1 - Hero Tests

Papa looks at me with a bit of food still on a chopstick halfway to his mouth, "You are accepting to be the next? MOST EXCELLENT!" He yells out dropping the chopsticks and standing up. Moving to stand next to me he pulls the hair from his pocket and holds it out to me.

I stare at it thinking this is some sort of symbolic ritual like a passing of the torch in the olympics. I move my gaze from the strand of hair to Papa's face, "So how do you, like, pass this to the next person? What all does it entail? Will I gain super strength and bulk out like you? Will I gain that 'anime hair' you get when you transform?"

Papa chuckles for a while then answers, "Well, not sure if you will gain my super strength or bulk out or gain the 'anime hair'. The last few holders had many wide varieties of quarks, so it's not only just strength. And to answer the first two questions, you gain the embers of the quark by consuming this strand of hair or it can be passed via blood transfusion but only if the current holder wishes to pass it on. It can't be forcibly taken but the holder can force someone to accept it. So keep this part super secret. Only you, me and one other know that part. The simplest way is the consumption of this strand of hair."

He holds out the strand again. I stare at it and think to myself, I have to eat Papa's hair… that is so weird. But not as outlandish as some of the manga I have read. I reach out and pluck the hair from between his fingers and hold it up in front of myself.

"Here goes nothing." I say, then quickly put the whole thing into my mouth and try to swallow as soon as possible. It gets caught in my throat a little bit so I reach for my glass and take several big swigs. "Well, I don't feel any different. Did it work?"

Papa nods and then says, "Yes, it will take a few hours for your body to absorb and start incorporating it. Then over time you will gain more and more power. Now, I won't sugar coat it. I had zero problem controlling this power, but it might take some getting used to. Also, now that you have picked up the torch, my flame will slowly dwindle. I am perfectly fine right now. Just know that in the near future I won't have my quark anymore."

I stare at him with a bit of shock at what I just heard. I knew somewhere deep that I would be taking all the quark but it didn't click that Papa would be left nearly quarkless. This saddens me a lot. Papa notices and moves to hug me, patting my head gently.

"It's okay, dragonling." Papa says as he pets my head slowly, "I have made my peace with the fact that One for All would one day have to pass to another, and I am glad it is you that it is passing to." With that he squeezes me gently and I return the hug.

The rest of my night is spent playing games on my console. School is done for the year, thank god. I am only waiting on acceptance letters from the two schools I applied to. I also have a lot of time to get acquainted with my newly added quarks, whatever they might be.

- Next Morning -

The next day I wake up early and smell something cooking in the kitchen. I also smell smoke, then 3...2...1… 'BLAR BLAR BLAR'.

I groan as I pull myself out from under my blankets and rush to the kitchen to find Papa hunched over several pans all of which were emitting thick black smoke.

"Here, let's take care of this." I say as I move to grab each pan. As I am doing this my hand brushes against a nearly glowing pot. I recoil my hand away but notice that my skin isn't burned nor did it feel as hot as it should be. I leave that pot on the stove and bring the rest of them to the sink to run under water to extinguish them. Several minutes later the fire alarm is off and I am at the stove as Papa is sheepishly 'banished' to the table. As I give him a small smile with a bit of disbelief I comment, "How could you have survived without learning how to not burn everything? I mean you burned the pot that had just water in it. It is now an useless piece of slightly twisted metal." I then, testing this new fact of heat resistance, pick up that pot that was glowing with my bare hands.

Papa flinches at this and rushes to me trying to grab the twisted pot out of my hands before dropping it saying, "Ouchhh, that is scalding hot. How can you hold it like it's nothing?"

"No clue, I accidentally brushed against it earlier and felt only a small amount of heat from it. I guess that with 'One for All' now in my system my base quark evolved again. You do always call me dragonling, maybe there is more fact to that then before." I say bending down to pick back up the still very hot pot before it burns the floor. I bring it over to the sink and run some water over it causing a ton of steam.

Papa looks relieved at this and goes back to sit at the table. After I bring the cooked breakfast over to the table he broaches me saying, "So excited? Today is the day you go to have your interview with U.A. and afterwards we can drop by the office to test to see if you have any other new abilities."

I freeze at his reminder, "Umm, excited… yeah... Let's go with that." I had been both dreading and anticipating this. I hope that they will like what they see, I haven't had any time to explore what I have gained from Papa yet other than this fire resistance. Although I still got most of the summer to try them out after the interview.

- Entering U.A. Campus -

Papa drops me off at U.A.'s office gate. Never know what they want me to do in this interview so I am wearing a simple blouse, skirt with spandex under and a pair of good shoes. I have had all my tops tailored to allow my wings to poke through as it is exceedingly uncomfortable to have them pinned to my back by clothes. I trepidatiously walk through the arches to the main office with my interview letter with me. As I enter the main reception room I am greeted by a short man with EIGHT arms and they were all busy doing different tasks including answering the phones, yes plural.

"And who might you be?" He asks, briefly looking up.

"I am Yagi Hikari and I am here for my admittance interview." I answer back taking a step closer.

"I could have guessed that you were here for the interview but was more asking about your name so thank you for being kind enough to say that first." He quickly responds then shifts some stuff on the desk with one of his arms, "Now where are they?" He mutters to himself before pulling out a badge with my name on it. "Now clip this to your shirt, the room you need is here on this map. Good luck."

He hands me a map with a highlighted path to the room. Dear god this place is laid out like a labyrinth, how do students get anywhere on time here? I look down at my watch and thank my lucky stars that I asked Papa to drop me off early. I had twenty minutes to find the room and I think I am going to need at least fifteen of those to find it. A quarter of an hour later I arrive at the room and take my seat next to a small line of people.

"Nervous?" A girl next to me asks. She is fairly tall for someone our age and wow very physically mature. She has long black hair that is tied up into a spiky ponytail like I have seen in manga.

"Yeah, even though we got recommended I have heard that we can still not get in and that there are still tests." I respond looking into her lovely onyx eyes. They slightly remind me of the neighborhood cat for some reason.

"I I I didn't know that there were still tests…" She stutters looking down at her feet.

"Yeah, but it is more than likely just aptitude tests and quark tests." I say, trying to reassure her and myself as well. "You will probably do fine, you look smart and strong."

"Thanks," She says as her head jerks to face me again. The eyes show surprise at my statement of what I think of her. Just from looks alone. "You also look to have a strong quark. Do you mind me asking, what is it?"

"Ahhh, I call it Draconic. You know from fantasy novels and such. I got these wings, sadly can't fly with them yet. I have shiny hard platinum silver scales covering a lot of my body and those are pretty tough almost like armor. I also got above average strength and this morning I discovered that I am practically immune to heat." I rattle off in quick succession, quite enthused quarks.

"That is amazing, I can create stuff from my fat cells so I need to eat a lot to make sure I don't pass out." She starts in on explaining her quark before she pauses, "Oh by the way, I am Yaoyorozu Momo, you can call me Momo. What's yours?"

"I am Yagi Hikari but call me Hikari." I respond.

We then idly chat about our quarks and how both of us require a lot of food for our quarks to work at full efficiency. Mine to harden the scales. Several minutes later our voices got a bit loud and a boy a few seats ahead of us turns to us and in a long snide voice, "Can you two quiet down this isn't a social club."

"Sorry," we both say. I look at him as he returns to lazily sit there. He is fairly well built, not quite as built as Bakugo but still. The one major distinguishing thing about him beyond the cold eyes is his hair, half is pure white while the other is a deep red. Also looks like he has a burn on one side of his face, ouch.

We go back to chatting again but keep our voices down. This is a great way to keep my nerves down I think to myself. After many minutes it's her turn to go in, so I wave her goodbye, "Good luck in there. Hope to see you on the other side." She responds by crossing her arms to form an X and crosses her fingers on both hands.

I am left being the last one in the line. It got eerily quiet besides the occasional chirp from a bird outside. I wait for a few minutes before a woman I recognize as Midnight leans out of the big doors. She waves for me to follow her in. I get up and follow. As I enter the room I see a semi-circle shaped table behind which a bunch of people sit, I assume they are the teachers here. Midnight points me to a chair set in front of them.

A mouse?...dog?...bear?...thing was sitting in the middle of the teachers scoots closer to the table saying, "That's right. It's me, Nezu, the one who could be a dog or a mouse or a bear, but more importantly... I'm the principal!" He looks me straight in the eyes then says, "So why do you want to be a hero? And why, specifically, should we allow you to study here?"

I am taken aback at this, who doesn't wish to be a hero? And here? Duh it's only the best school for heroics. "Sir, Principal, I wish to be a hero," I am slightly distracted as Midnight takes her seat but I continue, "I wish to be a hero so that I can protect those who can't defend themselves. As to the second question, this is the best school for those who wish to learn the nuances of hero work. It is second to none and I feel you all." I try to make eye contact with each of them before continuing again, "Have so much to teach me, I have a long way to go before I can consider myself a pro hero."

"Well said, but we shall see if you measure up to the standard we set here." A man who looks half asleep with a grey shawl wrapped around his shoulders and neck drawls.

"Yes, yes, you have said it quite well. The next part of this interview is a practical exam with all of the people who got past the interview. Please follow Midnight and she will show you to the testing grounds." the Principle says motioning for me to follow Midnight as she gets up and heads to a door to the opposite side of where I entered.

- 15 minutes later -

I am standing outside on a huge track and field area. There is a small crowd standing around. They swiftly make a hole for Midnight to walk through casually so that she is standing in front of the crowd. I look around trying to spot Momo or that half-n-half boy. Thankfully, I spot Momo and jog over to her. I tap her on the shoulder then smile while saying, "Looks like we both made it through the interview portion."

"Yeah, we did, but I'm wondering how they are going to test us here." She says looking around at the many people here.

"Yeah I am wondering too." I look around and spot several of the teachers I saw back in the interview room making their way into the observation area. One of them walks out to the field, "Isn't that Cementos?"

"Think you're right, wonder what he is going to…" She says just before Cementos places his hands on the ground and forms an obstacle course of labyrinth like pathways and pillars.

"Well, that answers our question." I say under my breath as Midnight gets everyone's attention with her flogger cracking.

"Okay potentials, here is what is gonna happen. You all are going to be running this 3km obstacle course six at a time. This will be done randomly." She points to a board as it has seven groupings, "You all have a number on the backside of your tags, go ahead and look at them. Then find your numbers in the groupings up on the board." she says as the randomization stops and the slots fill with various numbers. "Group #1, you're up now." She waits a little for the group to get into position and I spot half-n-half there along with a few others in that group. "GOOOO!" she shouts as she brings down her flogger with a crack.

Off that group runs and disappears into the course. I turn to Momo, "I am sorta glad we aren't with half-n-half. No offense, but he looks to be a bit of a jerk. Probably a very strong quark, would have to be to be recommended, but still he looks like he doesn't care about anyone."

She nods then extends a hand, "Well, may the best girl win as we are grouped together."

I smile brightly and accept the hand, "Yeah, nothing wrong with friendly competition. Do our best that's all we can do."

A few minutes pass and it's now our turn to compete. I line up at the starting line, Momo is a few people down from me. I think to myself, time to focus you've gotten much better at phys-ed so the running shouldn't be a problem. Just wish my quark helped with stuff like this. I then hear Midnight start her countdown. "Three, Two, One, GOOO!"

I burst from the starting place attempting to be the first into the course. I am cut off by a girl that looks like she can shoot her body parts out from her as she uses a disembodied hand to pull the rest of herself to the opening slightly ahead of me, impressive. I pull my wings to my back making myself more aerodynamic and pour on the speed. No time to focus on others, I need to think about what's next as I rush through the course. The next major is what looks like a climbing wall but the holds are few and far between. Well time to test out how much these wings and I can do climbing. I crouch down and leap as high as I can and latch onto the first hold which is about 10 feet above the ground. I hold onto it with both claws of my wings and use those to pull myself up as I reach up to grab the next one barely making it. A few minutes later I am at the top and quickly look back to see several of the others trying to make their way up Momo was in the lead. I smile at this. Good she isn't too far behind me. I need to get some nice distance, with thought I take a flying leap off the top of this 40 foot tall tower. Forget the ladder or stairs that they had in place. I spread out my wings, yeah I can't fly with them but gliding that's a totally different story. I glide past the next obstacle, thankfully. From up here it looks to be a sand pit the whole width of the field. Yuck sand, it gets everywhere I hate sand. I land a bit rough but continue to try to run. This shortcut allowed me to catch up with the girl who can split herself. We are now neck and neck as I see the finish line just ahead. We both look sideways at each other and pour every last amount of speed we both got. We each try to slide ahead of the other. Sadly, she barely beats me past the line, by inches.

Taking a few deep breaths as I look up at her as I did a baseball slide past the line. "Good competition, great job beating me." I say extending a hand up to her.

She takes my hand and pulls me up to my feet. "Yes, you are a very worthy opponent. So are these," She points at the group closing in on us and the finish line. Momo taking the lead. "I hope to see you in classes."

"You too." I say smiling at her and the others who just finished the course.

I walk over to Momo and congratulate her on a good race. She smiles and returns the sentiment. One of the teachers walks up to us and ushers us back inside to take the written exam. I am far from worried about that test. Each of the groups are ushered into separate classrooms to take the test, it was easy enough. A little bit about heroic laws, quark laws, easy math problems, etcetera. I finish with time to spare. I turn it in and quickly go back to my seat to grab my small purse. With a wave goodbye to Momo I rush outside to call Papa.

- Many minutes later -

Papa and I arrive at his agency and make our way to the training room. "Hi, Mirio-senpai looks like another afternoon in your care." I say as I see Bubblegirl give me that 'thank you' look. Mirio-senpai is new to Papa and Nighteye's agency but is already a staple here. Bubblegirl carries herself over to a bench as I head into the locker room to change. Papa is pulled aside by Nighteye, so he is probably going to be busy for a while. Hopefully between Bubblegirl and myself we can at least give Mirio-senpai a good warmup. I walk out taking a swig from a water bottle before I settle into a combative stance on the mat squaring off with Mirio-senpai.

"So how was your interview at UA? It go well? I hope that I get to see you at the school. I feel you will one day make a great hero Hikari-chan. Ready?" Mirio asks with his bright smile.

"Of course, I am ready but please go easy on me. I spent a lot of energy doing the practicals." I ask not really expecting him to agree but he does with a quick nod. The next few minutes we spar without utilizing our quarks. I am thankful, if he used his quark I would quickly find myself flat on my back.

About that time both Papa and Nighteye come walking into the training room. Papa goes over to the mat and takes my spot to square off with Mirio, "Come get me YOUNG MIRIO." he nearly shouts out.

Nighteye walks over to me sitting on the floor trying to catch my breath. "Come with me."

I get to my feet following him out of the training room and into a nearby empty office. There are boxes stacked about, looks to be more of a storage room than an office. Once inside he turns to face me, "Frankly, while I know you are an exceptional hero-in-training I feel you are not the best choice for All Might to have passed his torch to."

I take this in, "You wished that he chose Mirio-senpai right?" He doesn't deny it as his piercing eyes never leave mine. "Sorry, I can't measure up to Mirio yet. I make this promise, I will push myself to improve as hard as I can." I say breaking eye contact only at the end of this vow.

"Well then, looks like we got a busy few months until you get into UA and I WILL MAKE SURE YOU ARE READY. You will wish he chose someone else when we are done training you. Now follow me back, your father and I have decided that you are going to be sparring with Mirio with quarks active until you can land a hit on him." He says walking past me back towards the training room.

The next few hours I spent on the mat trying desperately to land even a glancing hit on Mirio-senpai to no avail. Even Bubblegirl is taking pity on me as she hands me a towel and freshly refilled water bottle. My stomach aches from his blows, even with my hard scales are useless against his quark.

"You are doing well Hikari-chan," Bubblegirl says comfortingly, "You almost had a hit on that last go. When I am sparing him with quarks I can't even land a hit."

"Bubblegirl, don't you have reports to finish?" Nighteye asks while giving her his patent stare.

"YES SIR." she responds quickly rushing out of the room.

He turns to me, "You are a quick study, but you still have a lot to learn." He then addresses Mirio and myself, "Over the next month, you two will spar with quarks active while All Might, myself and Bubblegirl go on patrols. Mirio you will be whipping Hikari-chan into shape so that she doesn't embarrass herself or us when she gets into UA."

- 35 days later -

Over the next month Mirio and I spent a lot of time in spars or actively working on improving my reflexes or improving my physical aspects of my quark. I can now hover using my wings for five minutes but it is super tiring. I can almost touch Mirio in spars but he still always won. It feels like he is going easy on me but even then great improvement.

Thankfully, they gave me five days of break from training before I have my first day of class. Yes, I got my letter about two weeks ago, it contained my student ID, my course schedule, and an extensive form for my hero outfit. I am now a student of UA in class 1A.

Author Notes: Thank you for reading my new chapter, hope you all enjoyed it. I am trying to keep it in first person present tense but it is hard, so sorry if there are some tense mistakes. I got done with this chapter faster than I thought I would. It flowed from my brain quickly.

Also I posted a Poll on my profile, I wish to know who you readers wish me to pair Hikari up with. I got a few options on the poll.
