Upstead (Jealous Jay)

Chapter 3

Hello guys! I have been getting a very positive feedback and I am grateful to every single one of you. This one is for you guys. This chapter has many different things going on but it ends on a totally different and unexpected outcome. I hope I have done a good job. Hope you enjoy. :)

The watch on his wrist showed 11:40 PM. Jay was still in one of the bars that the team usually went to and he didn't plan on leaving it either. He had been drinking since he had last spoken to Hailey and seen her walk out of the locker room. The team had joined him for a while but all of them left sooner or later and he was all alone now. As expected Hailey had not arrived. Atwater had tried to cheer Jay up but Jay wasn't in the mood to listen to anyone. He knew he couldn't drive home, so the options he had in hand were to either call a cab or crash somewhere nearby. If the circumstances were different he would have called Hailey, although if the circumstances were different he wouldn't have even been so drunk. He finally decided to call a cab and head home. He had to go to work the next morning and Voight wouldn't be pleased if he showed up late or in a state as the one he was in currently.

Hailey had decided to call it a night early and she was in bed by 9:30. She didn't have the energy nor the will to stay awake and mull over the recent events of the evening. This caused her to wake up early the following morning and she was glad it was a new day and a fresh start. Voight had told her as she was leaving the building that Trudy had gotten her a place in another district and she was to start tomorrow. Hailey was ready for change, in fact she needed one to give her back her sense of balance. As she was about to leave her phone chirped and she wondered who it would be. She saw Adam's text, wondering if he could call her for a moment. The awkwardness between them had long gone and they knew there was nothing more to discuss regarding their break up. They had parted amicably and had remained friends since. Instead of replying she herself called him and asked, "What's the matter Adam? Are you alright?"

"Yeah, Hailey. Don't worry, I am fine. I just need a small favour if possible," he said genuinely.

"Yeah, what's up? Tell me," Hailey replied nicely as well.

"I called Kim in the morning but she had gone to meet a CI and had taken Atwater with her so I couldn't ask her to pick me up. And Jay is not reachable. Could you come pick me up and sign the discharge forms," he asked politely.

Hailey thought for a moment planning her chores and replied, "Yeah, sure. I'll be right there."

Adam looked alright after two days' rest. He had a few bandages here and there but he looked fine enough to be able to get out of the hospital. As they walked towards the exit Adam said, "Thanks Hailey."

"Don't worry about it," Hailey replied back with one of her smiles.

As they were headed towards Adam's house Hailey suddenly said, "I am going over to the 26th for a while." She hadn't volunteered this information to any of her fellow officers as yet, though Voight knew and Jay had to know.

Suddenly her phone rang and she saw Jay's name on the screen, causing her heart to skip a beat. She answered calming herself down, "Hey,"

"I am sorry for calling you like this but could you do me a favour, for a moment forgetting all that's going on between us?"

At that Hailey felt bad inwardly and thought for a moment before replying. But before she could speak Adam spoke, finally processing the information Hailey had just dumped on him, "You're leaving! Why! What happened Hailey?"

Since Ruzek's voice was so loud Jay could hear it on the other end and he cringed and stopped breathing for a moment. Hailey signalled Adam to shut up and braced herself for the barrage of comments Jay would say, since he had clearly heard Adam.

"Are you with Adam?" Jay asked in a tone that was too calm to be good.

It was a direct question and Hailey didn't know how to get out of it by proving that it wasn't what he thought. She finally uttered, knowing that Jay had already assumed the worst and was not going to listen to a word she said, "Yes, Jay. I am with Adam. He asked me to pick him up fro"—

"Nevermind, sorry for interrupting," Jay continued in that same calm but dangerous tone.

Hailey tried to speak again and explain herself before Jay began imagining things, "Jay, listen to me. He was in the hospital and needed someon"—

"It's fine you don't have to explain anything," he said not showing any external signs of anger or disappointment.

But Hailey knew better than that and was worried now. This was not good, this wasn't good at all. Jay was bottling up everything and that would be a disaster down the road. But before she could further attempt to explain herself he had cut the call.

"All okay?" Adam asked from her side.

Hailey nodded, not wanting to show her emotions. She had a blunt thought in her mind at that very moment; Jay and she were fighting because of this man beside her and he had no clue about it. What an ironic thing, thought Hailey. And she almost wished that she hadn't ever slept with Adam, that way she wouldn't have to experience this day. But the way that thought entered it left her mind at the same speed. She was being silly and her emotions were clouding her reasoning.

Then she heard Adam's voice again, it was soft and slightly concerned, "I didn't know you were transferring to another district. Who knew taking a bullet would bring me back to this change?" He tried to lighten the mood but Hailey smiled only too briefly, not up for humour or jokes.

Adam sensed the tension and dropped the matter immediately, "Whatever it is Hailey, I am there for you and if you need anything please let me know."

Hailey nodded and whispered a, "Yeah, thanks."

The discharging process had gone quicker than she would have thought and she still had over an hour before she had to go for her duty at the new district. She decided to head home and eat something more before leaving again. She pulled out her key and opened her door and the sight in front of her was both relieving and painful. She was relieved that Jay was alright, at least he was in front of her, but the state he was in told her he probably hadn't slept the night and was only drinking. She stepped inside quickly and shut the door; the commotion making Jay look in her direction.

"Hey!" he screamed, confirming her doubts that he was drunk out of his ass.

Hailey rushed to him and attempted to take the bottle away from his hand. He held it in his other hand and said in a low voice, "Don't you dare." That tone, in spite of being low had a firmness in it that told Hailey it was better if she didn't try doing this. She tried another approach, "What are you doing Jay?" genuinely worried and concerned.

"I just want to talk to you," he slurred taking another sip from the bottle.

Oh God, oh God no, Hailey thought. She couldn't and wouldn't talk to him now and especially in this state. She moved towards him and sat on the couch beside him. He stank of whiskey and whatever the hell else he had been drinking. She began in a firm tone, "I have to go now Jay, we'll talk when I get back. Why don't you take a nap until then?"

Jay looked at her smiling, making her wonder whether she had said something funny. But his words confirmed she had not, "Oh, yeah. Where is Adam waiting for you? In his bedroom? In his car? I am sure it's the locker room right?" The disgust with which Jay uttered these words made Hailey shudder and really wonder what had gotten into Jay for him to behave in this manner.

Her mind snapped back into reality and she grabbed the bottle from Jay's other hand and placed it on the table beside the couch. Before Jay could protest she hauled him up on his feet and directed him towards the other bedroom in her apartment. He could barely walk, she had to take his weight on herself. As she reached the bed she half placed him and half pushed him as she could no longer take the weight. He collapsed immediately and was sprawled on the bed. A smirk appeared on his face and he said, "So we're really doing this? I thought you didn't want me."

It took all the police training in her not to punch Jay's face and knock him out. Instead she took hold of the blanket and spread it over Jay's body, hoping this position would make him fall asleep, at least for a while. She moved to the windows and shut all the blinds, letting darkness fill the room. She wondered what kind of light would be able to pull her out of the darkness she felt within her. She went to the side of the bed again and noticed Jay had shut his eyes and it appeared that he was entering a sleep. She walked out quietly and shut the door, wondering whether she should lock it or simply close it. She chose the latter and left her apartment.

"Hailey, is Jay with you? He has still not showed up," Hailey could hear Voight's voice through her phone. She laughed inwardly and thought if Jay woke up on that day itself, it would be a great thing considering the amount of alcohol he had put into himself.

She didn't know what to tell Voight, but lying wasn't an option. So she began, "Yeah, Sarge. He's in no shape to come. He's been drinking since last night."

"Hmm, so where is he now?" Voight asked.

"At home," Hailey replied leaving the statement to be understood in whichever way.

"At his place?" Voight asked not willing to drop this.

"No," Hailed replied.

There was a long silence before Hailey felt the need to clarify herself, "But it's not what you think Sarge."

"Yeah, I don't know what to think anymore. But what I do know is that if this continues Halstead will be out of Intelligence in no time, and believe me I won't be able to do anything from preventing that from happening.

Hailey knew that Voight was right and something needed to be done, fast, but she didn't think she would be able to handle it. Then again Voight spoke, "Where are you Hailey?"

"I have started work at the 26th, I am going through some files."

"Alright, good luck."

"Thanks, Sarge."

Hailey returned home in the evening to find that Jay wasn't in the bedroom anymore and she panicked for a moment before hearing sounds from the kitchen. She walked towards the room and saw Jay wearing the sweats he had worn when she had found him in her apartment earlier. But he wasn't wearing anything on top and Hailey had to force herself to look away from his perfect body. He sensed her presence and looked up, he looked better and sober. "Hi", he said.

Hailey looked into his eyes for a long moment before finally giving in. She walked towards him and pushed him against the refrigerator feeling his skin on her hands. Jay hadn't expected this and that caused him to bang into the large refrigerator with a loud thud. Before he could recover Hailey was kissing him deeply, her lips pressed onto his waiting impatiently for an entry. Jay was taken aback to such an extent that his reaction was to open his lips to end this. Though Hailey taking that as a cue entered his mouth with such a force that he forgot everything. She was already reaching for his sweats, hoping that they would come off soon. Jay not understanding what was happening but liking it nonetheless, fell in step with her and turned them around so that she was now against the refrigerator. He held her hands above her head and caused her to moan as he kissed her wildly. One hand held her hands up and the other reached for the buttons on her shirt and began working on them. This time Hailey didn't stop him rather leaned into his hand. Her shirt was off in a matter of seconds and Jay stepped closer to work on her pants. Her hands were freed and he found them on his neck. As Jay inched closer she could feel the heat coming from him and that ignited her heat and set it on fire. In no time they were both naked and Jay had her pinned on the kitchen floor. He was about to enter her but he didn't want to be rejected this time. So he shot her a quick and firm look. Since they usually communicated so well in this manner she understood what he meant and gave him one of her tiniest nods that only he could recognise. Getting the permission Jay needed he dipped his head into her most erotic spot and made her shudder underneath him. Hearing her scream so loudly he reached his own breaking point and entered her in one motion. The things both of them felt at that moment were beyond words and they both sought their release as soon as possible. The kitchen was filled with breathless moans, deep groans and skin hitting skin. From time to time a scream escaped Hailey's mouth and that spurred Jay to get more aggressive and passionate. A final loud moan left Hailey's mouth has she reached her high, her hands had certainly pierced through Jay's back, but neither of them seemed to care about that. This brought Jay over the edge and he grunted loudly as he found his own release. He collapsed on her, both their breaths were ragged and short. Then Jay got up and lifted Hailey and carried her to her bed and placed her there softly. In her mind Hailey thought she had given Halstead what he wanted and that would end the tension and the conflict between them. What she didn't realise still was that deep within herself she wanted the same thing.

That completes chapter three and I am eager to get feedback and ideas. Thank you!
