Miitopia: Dark Sunrise

Chapter 1: The Letter

Franky trudged through the ice and snow of Powdered Peaks, looking for the warrior named Yav. Five years ago, Yav and his friends risked their lives to save the world of MiiTopia, but they had all gone their own ways since.

Yav in particular had come here, to the chilly heights of Powdered Peaks, to train in isolation, or so Franky had heard. Truth be told, he had no idea where Yav was, but that wasn't going to stop him. Franky prided himself on being the most SUPER postman, making sure every letter reached its intended recipient, no matter what.

Trouble is, it felt like he'd been searching for hours, and the cold was starting to get to him. Then Franky heard it, the swinging of a sword, and the striking of wood. He rushed toward the sound, and much to his relief, he finally found Yav. The warrior was hard at work, practicing his swordsmanship against a log which had been fashioned into a wooden target. Excited, Franky quickly approached and spoke up.

"Hey there! It's-"

Yav whirled around, pointing his blade at the source of the voice, only to find it was Franky, the postman. Franky threw his hands up in a gesture of surrender, clearly startled by Yav's sudden moves. Upon seeing that there was no threat present, Yav lowered his sword and relaxed his guard.

"Oh, it's you. Franky, is it? It's been a while since your last delivery"

"Yep! It sure has…"

There was a momentary pause where no one spoke, before Yav continued.

"So, what are you doing all the way out here? This isn't

A social call, is it?"

"Afraid not, I'm here purely on business. I have a letter here addressed to you"

Franky handed the envelope containing said letter over to Yav, who took a moment to examine it before speaking again.

"I see, it's been a while since anyone sent me mail, who's it from?"

"That letter comes straight from Usopp the town guide"

"Really? Usopp doesn't seem like the type to send fan mail, this must be serious…"

"If you say so. It was SUPER nice to see you again, but I gotta hit the road. A postman's work is never done!"

"Ah, alright, it was good to see you again. Good luck with

The rest of your deliveries."

With that Franky turned away and began heading back down the snowy slopes.

"Another letter delivered by the most SUPER postman in all Miitopia!"

Yav chuckled a bit as he watched Franky go, before turning to the matter at hand, the letter he had been given. He stuck his blade into the ground, and proceeded

to read the contents of the letter. A grim look crossed his face as he looked from the letter to the horizon.

"So… after all these years, it's happening again…"

A smile then creased his face as he folded up the letter, tucking it in his pocket.

"Five years, huh? I wonder how everyone else has been doing…"

Yav then grabbed his helmet, which had been sitting on a tree stump nearby and placed it back on his head, He then pulled his sword out of the ground and sheathed it.

"Well, I guess the time has come…"

And with that, Yav began walking. His destination was a tavern in Traveler's Hub that happened to be owned by Usopp. According to the letter, he would be meeting his teammates and friends there.

Asriel lay upon his bed, resting after having worked all morning. As a trained and talented cleric, he spent much of his time these days helping the people of Greenhorne, and whomever else came through the castle doors. It was a taxing job, but well worth it to him. During his downtime, Asriel often thought about his friends and the adventures they had been on. Despite the fact that all of it had been over five years ago, it still felt like only yesterday that they had defeated the darkest lord and saved MiiTopia, not to mention his mother, the great sage Toriel. Although he was happy to be home, Asriel kind of missed that adventurous life he had before, and he especially missed his friends. His reminiscing was abruptly cut short by a knock on his door.

"Yes, who is it"

"It's Papyrus sire, I have something important for you"

Ah, Papyrus. Of the four royal guards, he was the most serious about his job. And he was often annoyed by his lazy co-worker Sans.

"You may enter."

The door to Asriels room opened, and Papyrus entered, holding a letter. Which he quickly handed to Asriel.

"Whats this?"

"It's a letter for you, sire. Delivered by that ridiculous loudmouth Franky"

Good old Franky, always reliable with the mail. He had been to the castle a lot recently, delivering mostly letters of thanks to Asriel from the people of Greenhorne. While Asriel found Frankys over-the-top demeanor humorous, Papyrus did not. Asriel looked over the letter he'd been given this time, it wasn't from anyone in Greenhorne this time. Instead, it was from Usopp the town guide from the traveler's hub. Before Asriel could ponder the significance of this letter further, Papyrus spoke up once more.

"Do you need anything more from me, sire?"

"No, you may take your leave"

"As you wish, your majesty"

Papyrus gave a short bow, before heading off to return to his post. Truth be told, despite the fact that he had been home for five years, Asriel still wasn't used to being called "Sire" or "Your Majesty". While he was indeed the crown prince of Greenhorne, he much preferred being seen as a regular citizen. Asriel by nature wasn't very boastful, and never held his title above anyone.

Asriel opened the letter he had received and took a moment to read it over. His suspicions about the nature of the letter were confirmed, it seems Usopp was trying to assemble the old team. That could only mean trouble was brewing. Before leaving his friends and returning to his home in Greenhorne castle, Asriel had made a promise, the same promise made by all of his fellow team mates and friends. If MiiTopia were to face another grave threat, they would all return and reform their team. Looks like it was time to make good on that promise. Asriel pocketed the letter and donned his Cleric gear, leaving his room shortly after and making for the castles entrance. Before he could leave, a booming voice caught his attention.

"Asriel, my son. Where are you going?"

It was the voice of Asriels father, King Asgore. Asriel turned to face his father.

"Father, the call has been made. I am needed to protect MiiTopia once more"

Asgore let out a sigh, somewhere deep inside, he knew this day would eventually come. Asriel had told him about the promise they all made on the day it was made, so he knew that Asriel would eventually have to make good on it. A promise, after all, was a sacred vow no man or woman could break. Not without consequence anyway. As such, Asgore knew he wouldn't be able to stop his son from leaving again.

"Very well, but before you leave, at least say farewell to your sister"

"Yes Father"

Asriel ventured over to Charas room and knocked on the door. After a moment, he heard Charas voice coming from within.

"Come in"

Asriel entered the room, and saw Chara having afternoon tea with Tom, her husband, and Asriels step-brother.

Asriel had mixed feelings about Tom when they had first met. He wasn't very tough, but he made up for that with unrelenting determination, and he did truly love Chara. Never the less, the Dark Lord incident had taught Tom a painful lesson, and as such, he had spent the past few years after the wedding training to get stronger. Asriel was a lot more confident in Tom's ability to protect his sister now than he was before. Of the two, Chara was the first to speak.

"Brother! How nice to see you, was there something you needed?"

"No, not really. I just came by to let you know that I'm leaving"

"Oh? Is that so? Does another citizen of Greenhorne require your aid?"

"Not this time, MiiTopia is under threat once more, so I must rejoin my old team"

"Oh. I see, well, I wish you all the best on your journey, may it be a safe one"

"Thank you"

Asriel then turned to Tom, who admittedly wasn't really paying attention at first, but tuned right in when Asriel mentioned MiiTopia being threatened once more.

"Tom, please take care of my sister and father while I am gone."

"You have my word Asriel, no harm shall befall them, I swear it!"

Tom sure sounded confident, unfortunately, Asriel did not share that same confidence. Not that he wasn't confident in Toms abilities, he was. It's just that, if this threat was powerful enough, Tom may not be able to protect them.

"I hope so…"

And with that, Asriel turned to leave. Taking one last look at Chara and Tom before leaving the room, and then the castle, but not before stopping to talk with Papyrus for a moment.

"Papyrus, if anything bad happens to my family while I am gone, send word immediately, got it?"

"Yes your majesty, you have my word"

"Good, I must get going"

"Do take care of yourself sire"

With that out of the way, Asriel began his journey to Travelers Hub. To be honest, even though it was because of dire circumstances, Asriel was looking forward to seeing his friends again. As he walked, Asriel couldn't help but wonder how much they all had changed over the past five years. Well, he would find out soon.

Usopp stood alone behind the bar of his tavern. Normally, it would be bustling with activity. Usopps tavern was a common hot spot for anyone passing through Travelers Hub, lots of people from all over MiiTopia would frequent it. Not today though, today the tavern was empty, as Usopp had closed it early for a special function. A few days ago he had sent out letters all over MiiTopia with the express purpose of gathering the team of heroes that saved MiiTopia five years before. Usopp felt that those heroes were sorely needed once again, what with the relatively new city of New Lumos going dark just under a year ago, and reports of people's faces going missing once again. Usopp had no way of knowing what exactly was causing all that, but he knew it was bad and it had to be stopped. There was only one team of heroes that could stop it, and that's why the letters were sent. Usopp had actually closed the tavern not long after sending the letters, as he intended it to be the place where the heroes would meet. So far though, no one had shown up. Usopp could only hope that the former heroes had decided to reunite. For most of them, Usopp had no doubt they would return, but there were a few he wasn't so sure about. Jack in particular had opened his own restaurant in Neksdor and become a world renowned Chef, and Mettaton had become a global pop star sensation. Usopp felt that those two would not be returning, as they would have to give up their fame. Usopps train of thought was interrupted when he heard the front door of the tavern chime as it was opened, followed by the sound of someone's voice.

"Oi! Anyone home?"

Usopp looked up from the glasses he had been cleaning, ready to tell another customer that the tavern was closed, but instead he saw one of the heroes he had been waiting for. That hero was Gavin, the legendary thief.

"Hey there Gavin, glad you could make it"

"Ah, Usopp me old chum. Has anyone else made it in yet?"

"Nope, you're the first"

"Really now? That's interesting. Ah, I'm sure they'll all be about soon. In the meantime, pour me a drink, would ya mate?"
