Author's Note: This one shot received a lot more attention than what I thought it would, so naturally I decided to give it another go, and see if I could bring some Halloween themed joy this season.
Chapter II
Looking around at everyone's painted faces, Annabeth sighed.
"We are a bunch of dorks."
"Shh!" Came from several different directions.
A moment later, Jason whispered, "Seven huge dorks shall answer the call."
Not a moment later, a loud crack and a deep thump sounded, immediately followed by a groan that was unmistakably Leo's.
"Whether tripping or slipping, they will probably fall."
Everyone snickered, but did their best to stifle it. It was getting harder to hide their position in these woods. The river always carried voices instead of masking noises. They weren't too far from the bonfire either, and the sneak attack wouldn't work if it didn't have the "sneak" factor.
"Seriously, people!" hissed Piper. "Everyone quiet."
Annabeth was always wary of her power. The girl could tell someone to jump off a cliff, and Annabeth was confident they'd have zero power in resisting the command.
By this point they had reached the edge of the trees in the bonfire clearing. They eyed their targets from a distance – about 15 yards away.
A moment later a vampire wearing a black cloak – Will – swiftly zoomed out from the woods. It only took a second before he and Nico were upon the petrified campers, Nico and the victims vanishing before they could scream.
When Nico emerged from the shadows, Annabeth understood that he had shadowtravelled their targets.
Chills ran down her arms as she imagined the terror of being jumped in the woods on Halloween by a vampire and zombie, then disappearing into thin air. The shadows tugging your body through the dimension and pushing you through to the other side. She briefly wondered where Nico had taken the unlucky souls.
Piper and Hazel were the next to venture out from their hiding spot, picking out a lone group of girls. Once the outliers were taken care of, all of the dorks could storm the bonfire and wreak havoc.
"No one make a sound," Piper instructed effortlessly.
The group startled. A blonde girl gaped, looking like a fish out of water.
Hazel pressed her hands to the ground, an oval section sinking down taking the group of girls into a deep pit.
Hazel called out, "Let's go!"
And so chaos ensued.
Leo lit his hair and hands on fire.
A thunderstorm of Jasons making swirled over the tree tops.
Skeletons popped out from the ground and ran through the crowds screaming.
Hazel would hiss "Happy Halloween" before Nico whisked them away via shadows.
Frank transformed into an oversized wolf and allowed Percy and Annabeth to ride into the center of the bonfire festivities. From there, the iconic duo stirred up the fear in every being they could, even managing to frighten Hercules.
It was all in good fun, as many of their friends quickly realized the true faces behind the makeup and impromptu costumes. Terrified screams turned to jovial laughter. The group migrated toward the docks after taking a bow for the fun surprise.
"Job well done, everyone!" Percy high-fived the others. "Spooky season is now fulfilled."
"The only thing that can make this better is s'mores," said Will.
"Lucky you," responded Nico, spotting the snack table behind Jason. "This camp has a continuous flow supply of pillow shaped marshmallows."
Rather than reach around Jason for Will's s'more supply, Nico simply reached through him in a momentary lapse of forgetfulness. Jason paled, and Leo was the first to shriek.
"Yo, what the heck was that, man?" Percy's eyes much too wide.
"Right, I forgot to mention I've added intangibility to the ghostly repertoire," Nico replied cooly.
Frank kept his eyes on Nico but leaned down to Hazel and whispered, "Can you do that, too?" Hazel lightly smacked him.
Jason clutched at his stomach. "I gotta say, that felt really really weird."
"How so?' asked Nico.
Grimacing he said, "Like my gut just dropped."
"Interesting."
"Do it to my hand, bro!" Percy sounded like an excited child.
Nico sighed and then phased his arm into Percy's. The sensation took the son of Poseidon aback so much he screeched and toppled over the side of the dock into the lake. Not before pulling a laughing Annabeth in with him.
A completely dry Percy and Annabeth joined the others around the campfire much later.
Leo had a dumbfounded look on his face while Hazel and Nico chuckled. It seemed that Leo was lacking in specific knowledge privy only to the Hades/Pluto siblings.
"Only 30s kids will remember, Leo," said Hazel.
"Ha ha, you're hilarious, Hazel."
Percy chuckled at the expense of Leo's ego. "What did we miss?"
"Oh, nothing," Nico dismissed. The past didn't hold any true interest for him.
Leo grinned at the sight of Annabeth's very ruffled hair. "More importantly what did we miss? You two surely know how to swim," Leo feigned. "Don't you two have enough to get it on alre-"
"LEO." Nico sounded appalled. Quickly he covered the sides of Hazel's head with his sleeves. "There are little ears here!"
"Agreed," Percy scoffed. The boy sat down beside Nico, and then covered up the pale ears that stuck out from long black locks.
Nico wouldn't have any of it. "Oh, please, Jackson. As if I haven't been inducted into the world of physical love. My wrist still hurts from three mornings ago and -"
"And now we are covering all little ears." Frank covered his own.
Piper lead the group into a discussion of date ideas for the future. It moved the conversation away from less tasteful social talk.
Nico leaned in towards Leo, and with a hushed tone he conspiratorially whispered, "Do you wanna know how I actually hurt my wrist?"
"Uh.. yes?" Leo hesitated. He often read the son of Hades wrong.
"I was hula-hooping. Will and I attend a class for fitness and for fun."
For the second time that evening, Leo's dumfounded expression found its way back to his dark features. "Oh my gods."
The boy nodded, grimly serious. "I have mastered all the moves, the pizza toss, the tornado, the scorpion, the oopsie-doodle – "
"Why are you telling me this?!" Leo hissed at him.
Nico's eyes flashed. "Because no one will ever believe you."
The hispanic boys eyes twitched fiercely.
Five traditional Camp-Half Blood campfire songs later, and boy was it a treat. Percy liked to tune in to all the voices, but he hardly ever joined in himself. S'mores were a far more rewarding conclusion.
"Come on, Percy, just sing!" Annabeth tugged his sleeve.
"Nah, most of these are just kid songs anyway." Percy twirled his marshmallows atop the flames. "Let them have at it."
"Piper, tell the boy that he should sing. You guys haven't ever heard him."
Annabeth held out a graham cracker with a 3-piece Hershey's bar already placed on it. Percy sandwiched the toasted (not burnt) marshmallows between the graham crackers and chocolate.
"If Annabeth is vouching for you, bro, we gotta hear it now," said Jason with a shrug.
Piper nodded. "Yeah, Percy, just sing something you like!"
Other campers sitting close by started to put in their two cents, and Percy felt his cheeks color.
"In the name of spooky season only," agreed Percy. It was only his close friends plus three other campers. Not a big deal.
Percy had never been able to allot time or money to singing lessons, but Annabeth always gravitated towards him when he hummed under his breath. Every now and then he would serenade her or jokingly belt out tunes.
This time, he aimed for something slightly more theatrical. His voice flowed sweetly like honey.
"I put a spell on you
Because you're mine"
Honeyed, hypnotic. It was so instantaneous, the second he began to sing.
" You better stop the things you do
I tell ya I ain't lyin'"
As if the song were a tangible cord, it wrapped itself around the other campers and pulled their attention to the demigod.
"You know I can't stand it
You're running around
I can't stand it 'cause you put me down"
By this point, Percy was fully concerned. Everyone's faces seemed to be in a clouded stupor. Strange.
"You know I love you
I love you anyhow
And Id on't care if you don't want me
I'm yours right now"
Percy had begun to direct his words towards Annabeth only, searching for that familiar smile, only to find her looking a little dazed.
"I put a spell on you
Because you're mine"
Percy finished his singing debut and cupped Annabeth's hand.
Suddenly she shook from her fixation, and breathed a "Whoa".
"Alright, I know I'm not terrible, but I'm also not that great," Percy reasoned aloud.
There were some murmurs amongst the small crowd. Eventually campers began returning to snacks and refreshments, no longer compelled to drop everything they were doing and listen to Percy.
"I'm not exactly sure what that was, bro," said Jason. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you have some Siren blood in you."
"Hey, that might actually make sense." Piper wasn't as big of a Greek family tree buff as Annabeth, but the topic interested her nonetheless. "They say the Sirens are related to your dad."
"You think his singing voice could be similar to a compulsion?" Annabeth tilted her head sideways. Her nearly permanent inquisitive features glowed. "I wonder if it's similar to charmspeak."
"Now that is an interesting concept."
Nico held his face in the side curve of his hand. He wasn't the only child of the Big Three that was able to push the limits of his powers.
Sometimes Percy's friends forgot what a powerful demigod he could be.

I believe this will be the last tumblr-esque installment, but keep an eye out for more spooky season material next year!
