I hope you enjoy the chapter! Apologies for the delay but I hope to be updating this story along with the new Clexa sequel if there is enough interest. Let me know what you thought and if you want to see more! Don't worry, a much longer chapter is in progress :D

Bel and I crouched cautiously among the shrubs as we scrutinized the prison from a relatively safe distance. We had left the car with Atom a few hundred meters back to avoid detection, unwilling for this scouting mission to turn into a capture.

'So...' I began slowly, my mind working through the possibilities of how we could infiltrate the prison. 'We can't just walk straight in.'

'Tried that, it failed,' Bellamy confirmed, having once hoped that simple negotiation would be enough, but the stream of bullets that had been fired in response had quelled all hopes of peaceful interactions.

'Noted. We can't go from above, unless you have a parachute handy?'

Bellamy stared back impassively, not in the mood to joke after having lost the suitcases. This was a serious matter, and it went without saying that we would need an ingenious plan if we were to retrieve Nathan from the hands of the gang.

'I'll take that as a no,' I concluded, returning my gaze to the prison. There had to be some weakness that we could exploit. 'What about from below?'

Bellamy let out an exasperated sigh, assuming that I was still joking, but frowned when he saw the sincerity on my face.

'You've got to be kidding me, there's no way would that would ever work.'

'You'd be surprised, people are stupid! It can't hurt to try right? We don't have many other options.'

'The sewer? You really think this is the key to breaking into a high facility prison? Seems unlikely,' Bellamy continued to argue, not convinced that this was the fool proof plan that we were looking for.

'Aha, unlikely but not impossible.'

Despite Bel's reservations, it was the only option we were left with and we reluctantly retreated to locate the closest manhole cover which we gazed down at with shared dismay, neither of us particularly eager to venture down underneath the city.

'After you,' Bellamy insisted once we had dragged back the heavy cover to reveal the rusted metal ladder leading down into the dismal depths of the sewer.

I flaunted an exaggerated smile and swept past him, dampening my disgust with strong resolve as I took the lead and hoped that this was worth the trouble. Once my feet were firmly planted on solid ground, I pulled a flashlight from my bag and illuminated our murky surroundings as Bel descended the rusted ladder behind me.

'You always take me to nicest places don't you?' he grumbled, digging into his bag to retrieve his own flashlight. 'Why can't we ever go somewhere pleasant?'

I ignored his mutterings and proceeded along the passage, taking the lead along the gravel pathway that lay beside a channel of flowing water. It may not have been the most welcoming environment, or pleasant for those with a sense of smell, but it was our best shot at infiltrating the prison.

'I'm sure Nathan isn't living in the most ideal conditions right now, so stop moaning and get moving.'

If this plan failed then it would be near impossible to free our friend from enemy clutches.

We trudged through winding tunnels for almost ten minutes before the first distant sounds of the undead reached our ears. We drew to a stop and looked at each other with equal concern.

'Did that sound like it came from the street above?' Bel whispered, cautious of how easily the sound echoed throughout the system of tunnels. Sound down here was deceiving and it was hard to tell whether the noises represented a threat or were merely reflections of our own movement.

'Let's hope so,' I replied in a hushed tone, resuming our advance through the tunnel. 'If we keep going this way then-'

My words were cut short when a distinct chorus of groans became all to noticeable from deep within the labyrinth.

'You were saying?'

The chances of the gang releasing their captured walkers into the sewage system to protect against attack was slim, yet all too possible.

'Perhaps we should head back,' I replied, remaining calm even as the moans grew in volume.

Bellamy was more than eager to comply and we retraced our steps with haste until we reached a branching section and he veered to the right whilst I turned left, both of us pausing with a confused frown.

'It's this way,' he insisted.

'No, we came from here.'

The silence grew for a long moment before Bellamy ducked his head in despair.

'Damn it.'

ALICIA's POV

I sat quietly in the back seat of our newly acquired vehicle as Octavia drove us along the quiet roads leading the campsite where their group had now settled. It had been a shock to witness the nightmare of the ruined building that they had once occupied and for a moment I had feared them all to be dead.

From what I had heard about them, this group of survivors sounded decent enough, but it was the promise of the radio that drew excitement into my chest. As good as it might be to greet some new faces and meet some new people, the only real hope lay with the radio on which I could hopefully contact my family.

I nervously played with a strand of loose hair as I contemplated the moment that their voices crackled over the radio, how it amazing it would be to just hear their voices again.

'I'd best not be in some filthy tent. I was expecting to return to a house with four walls and a bed, not a hovel.'

Murphy's complaints drew me back to the present and I abandoned such hopeful thoughts, reminding myself that we first had to reach the camp and find a working radio before anything else could occur.

'Shut up Murphy. We'll leave you outside on the ground if you keep complaining,' Octavia cut in, tired of his whining. 'Looks like we'll soon find out.'

I craned my neck to observe the sign before it flew by in a blur of colour, unable to restrain the morbid laugh that escaped my lips when I read the slogan.

Greetings from Enchanted Trails!

Not your average RV park.

There was certainly nothing average about these once joyful destinations anymore. There was nothing welcoming about the slow moving undead creatures that arched their battered bodies around as the vehicle sped past, blowing up dust in its wake.

It was a relief to know that we had finally reached the newly positioned base and I could only hope that Elyza would be following close behind. I couldn't help but wonder what trouble she was getting herself into, it went without saying that wherever the blonde woman went, trouble would almost certainly never be far behind.

ELYZA's POV

'I'm telling you we just went this way!' Bellamy gasped as he hurtled along in front of me, our footsteps crashing loudly through the network of interconnected tunnels.

'Even if you're right, we can't go back now,' I huffed in response, already suffering from a shooting pain in my left side from the unexpected dash through the sewer.

Bel glanced back to see what I was talking about, muttering a string of curse words as he glimpsed the walkers emerging from the intersection, their heads whipping in the direction of their newly acquired prey.

'Wasn't this a great idea,' he managed to snap, taking a sharp left only to skitter to a stop when he witnessed another group of walkers ambling towards us. He performed a quick spin away from the oncoming threat and grabbed my arm to slow my momentum, proceeding to drag me in the opposite direction down a thankfully clear tunnel.

To our collective relief, we glimpsed a rusted ladder on the far end of the tunnel which marked our escape from this hell hole. It certainly wasn't the ladder that we had descended earlier, but it would certainly lead us somewhere safer than this nightmare.

'Go!' I shouted forcefully, glancing briefly over my shoulder as the oncoming masses of undead swarmed towards us with lurching steps.

Bel didn't need telling again and sprinted forwards with a burst of speed, heaving himself up the ancient ladder to brace his weight against the manhole cover. I came to a stop moments later at the foot of the ladder, my breath rasping from the exertion of our long run.

'Anytime now,' I called up in warning, shifting nervously as the undead continued their advance, some falling from the granite path into the churning water to splash frantically before being swept back into the darkness.

My flashlight illuminated only those closest to me, but there was no telling how many walkers inhabited these tunnels. It had turned out that the prison was well protected from below after all.

'This thing isn't light Elyza,' Bel grunted, inching the cover back as streaks of daylight broke through.

It wouldn't matter soon enough if the groaning mass caught up with us.

With one final heave Bel managed to push the cover aside as best he could, scrambling up to safety before reaching down a hand to help me.

'Hurry!'

I averted my gaze from the undead who were now barely twenty yards, their hands outstretched in anticipation of their meal. Their first in a long time by the looks of it.

The ladder beneath me was bending dangerously with every rung that I ascended, already having bore the weight of the heavier man before me. It was unsettling how my body lurched with every step, my hands sweaty from nervous expectation as I climbed closer and closer towards freedom.

With a sickening snap, the rung beneath me disappeared and my body descended at terrifying speed as my brain disconnected from the rush of fear that sparked from the sudden action. My hands clasped wildly at the ladder as I heard Bel's horrified cry from above and my boots finally collided with one of the lower rungs.

I was frozen for a moment as my body recovered from the shock and I clung to the ladder for dear life with shaking limbs. A quick glance down revealed that I was only two rungs from the very base of the ladder with the undead reaching for me almost within grasp.

'Elyza!'

The harsh voice snapped me back into action and I clambered back up with speed that I didn't know I possessed, wincing as my ankle exploded with pain but unable to take the weight from it as I heaved myself over the broken rung and finally reached up to grasp the extended arm.

Bel helped to pull me up the final few rungs and we both collapsed onto our backs, breathing heavily in the silence as the moans below radiated up to reach us. Tired of the never ending sound, Bel threw himself forward and pushed the cover back into place to silence the groans.

'Another successful venture,' he said stiffly, wiping a hand across his face before looking back at the woman splayed out on the concrete. 'It's like you never left.'

I grinned at the comment, adrenaline coursing through me at the close encounter, and hauled myself up into a cross legged position with a grimace. My ankle had not fared well from our adventure.

Momentarily ignoring the ache, I shielded my eyes from the sunlight and cast my gaze around at our surroundings. It certainly wasn't where we had been earlier.

'Bel,' I began, remaining seated on the concrete as he rose to stretch his stiff limbs. 'Where the hell are we?'
