I find that the best oneshot ideas come from spontanous inspiration, usually as a result of some real-life occurence. This particular oneshot, which I am honored to announce is my very first Resident Evil fic (I went on a super binge, played 1-6, Code Veronica, Revelations 2), was inspired out of the blue when I was playing RE5 the other day. I'll explain more in the post-notes lol.
Without further ado, enjoy my first RE story.
The war on bioterrorism was shifting. Countries, nations, people of all colors and creeds had banded together, and slowly began to push back against the atrocities spawned from the Umbrella Corporation, so many years ago. A pandemic, which had spread worldwide, to all corners of the globe.
In Africa, the battle had considerably grown favorable, thanks to the valiant efforts of the BSAA branch stationed there, under the command of such skilled and courageous warriors as Josh Stone and Sheva Alomar.
HE... was also a hero to them. The man, the myth, the boulder-punching legend. The Wesker Slayer. A man Sheva would forever be indebted to... and entwined with.
"CHRIS, WATCH YOUR SIX!"
"GOT IT!"
Today was another fight: pockets of Majini resistance were still alive in Kenya, and were regrouping... a BSAA squadron was sent in to shut it down. Permanently.
"TAKE THIS!"
"THANKS!"
Chris, Sheva, and Josh led the attack. Flanked by a squad of 12 men, they stormed into the village where the Majini had established a command post. The three courageously took point, not even worried about their men trailing behind them.
Needless to say, they were confident in their abilities. With good reason.
BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM! Chris discharged four rounds from his M9 handgun, dropping two Majini as they charged at him. As he turned his back, one of them slowly shifted, trying to get up... a blast from a few feet away splattered his head, ending him.
"Thanks." Chris gave a thumbs up to Sheva, who flashed a sly smile.
"There, on the right building! Light it up!" Josh Stone commanded his men, pointing towards a Majini who had set up on a rooftop, readying a molotov cocktail. A hail of automatic gunfire ripped the rooftop to pieces, dropping the enemy into the street.
"The left flank is slipping! Tighten up!" Josh commanded more personnel to that side, as they began lighting up the opposing force with bullets. Scores of infected tried to come at them, only to be dropped by the hailstorm of lead.
An assailant tried to rush Josh from the front, swinging a machete; Josh swayed his head and used the enemy's momentum against him, seizing him by the neck and lifting him up high... a powerful choke slam put him in the dirt, smashing his head against the hard ground. Another one tried to rush Josh, but the Captain effortlessly aimed his pistol and blasted him without even looking.
Sheva saw that her mentor was holding his own well enough, and that put her mind at ease, allowing her to focus more on her own targets. She drew her pistol, slowly exhaled... she could hear Josh's teachings in her head, guiding her aim...
BLAM! She scored a headshot from several yards, dropping the Majini where he stood.
She swung around; BLAM BLAM! a tango was readying a stick of dynamite, but she ended him before he could light it.
She was in her element. She never felt sharper than this moment... like every squeeze of the trigger was a guaranteed kill. Something about this day, the feeling of victory soon approaching... it compelled her to not waste a single round.
Sheva could hear the distorted cursing of native tongue: the left! She swung around to get a bead on him...
...Only to see huge, broad shoulders blocking her view.
A slight grunt of annoyance, as Sheva aimed around Chris's giant body and blasted the Majini to oblivion.
The battle raged on; not a single casualty had been suffered, as the BSAA slowly gained ground in the village, wiping out the Majini pocket stationed there. But the further they ventured into the hot zone... the more prone they were to ambushes.
"DON'T BREAK RANKS! STAY TOGETHER!" Chris shouted to all available men.
"ROGER THAT!"
They battled with a tighter formation... even now, Sheva wasn't afraid. She still felt her aiming hand more powerful than ever before, as she slipped a new clip into her handgun and fired off several shots, dropping three assailants in a matter of seconds.
As she searched for her next mark, she could see something out of the corner of her eye... up high, on the rooftops...!
"RPG!" Sheva screamed, as she swung around hard to intercept him...
...Only for a big fat head and dark hair to block her shot.
"Ugh!" Sheva groaned with annoyance as she aimed over Chris's shoulder, firing off a shot: the bullet soared into the explosive shell in the enemy's hand, blowing him to bits.
Chris felt that one in his ear, as his face twisted with pain. "Jesus, Sheva! A little warning next time!"
Sheva didn't dignify that with a response.
"THEY'RE BREAKING THROUGH THE RIGHT FLANK!" Josh shouted. "GET SOME FIRE ON THAT LINE!"
Though the bullets continued to mow them down, some persistent Majini managed to get in close... close enough to try and hack at them with machetes, pieces of wood, any blunt objects they could find. Chris was no stranger to hand-to-hand combat, however; as the enemies closed in on them, he held them back with his formidable fists. A haymaker knocked one of their heads off. Another tried to club him with a piece of wood; Chris broke the wood against his thick bicep, then uppercut the Majini so hard, his head partially detached from his neck.
Sheva was also a skilled fighter; with her dual knives, she parried a blunt object, and stabbed an enemy through the eye. She swung around and sliced two necks at once, before rolling forward and jamming her knives into the ears of a fourth enemy.
She turned; one was coming at her with a pitchfork!
"Ungh!" Sheva grunted as she crossed her blades, stopping the farming tool from piercing her... but the force of it stumbled her back. She regained her footing, retreating several steps back to get her bearings-
THUD!
It felt like hitting a brick wall; she spun around, to see what had jarred her... it was, once again, the colossal body of her partner.
"Sorry!" Chris casually yelled behind him.
Sheva was starting to cross the border from "annoyed" into "irritated."
The battle neared its apex; the BSAA were deep into the village, and the Majini resistance were losing ground fast.
Sheva had grown bolder... she broke off from the main force, in pursuit of more heads to splatter, and maintain her perfect accuracy... 100% of the shots she fired, she had hit. She was almost in a shooter's high: the thrill of the hits, of nailing her target every time without fail, was intoxicating to her.
BLAM! Another went down.
BLAM! A second.
BLAM BLAM! Two more tangos dropped to their knees, blood spewing from fresh holes in their heads.
She felt an ecstasy, like she was beyond this world. An Angel of Death, send by Heaven to rid the Earth of this plague. Nothing could stop her.
She'd been counting her clip. Knew she had one left in the chamber. There he was... holding a farming sickle.
This was it. She aimed, both eyes open, gently exhaled... squeezed the trigger...
"Wh-WHOAAAA!"
BLAM!
Sheva gave a sharp yelp, as she felt her body being sent sideways, at the moment she had squeezed the trigger. It was a tremendous impact; it felt like someone had thrown a loaded backpack at her chest!
It took a few moments to collect herself, before she looked over and realized... the Majini was still standing.
She had missed.
A fury sparked in her eyes, so fearsome it threatened to pop her blood vessels. She turned towards the lumbering giant that had plowed into her; Chris seemed to not even notice what he'd done, or maybe he didn't care. He obviously hadn't been paying attention, to see the importance of what this operation had done for her, and the self-respect it had generated.
Thus, at that moment... her professional shell cracked, and her judgement waned.
"HIYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
A spinning kick to the back of Chris's head knocked him out instantly. With his body now laying dormant on the ground, Sheva was free to pop away at the rest of the Majini around her, no obstructions.
That day, she missed one shot.
So now that you've read it, I can explain the inspiration behind it: I've been trying to S rank all the levels on RE5, which requires a good accuracy rating, and I had been playing as Sheva for a while... but I was forced to switch to Chris. Why? Because when you try to aim with Sheva, half the time Chris's bloated body is eating the screen! Several times I missed a perfect shot, because his beefy self was in the way lol.
So there you go. My first RE fic. Hope you enjoyed.
