Every story has a beginning, and usually that beginning involves an underdog protagonist who has lived a very unhappy life and usually is the target of bullies. Yeah, not this guy!
Well not entirely, but allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jakob 'Jake' Lancer, and I come from a noble family. Y'know the deal; super rich, parents own a huge company and according to all the girls in school, I am quite the looker. Hell, most of the boys are jealous of me because of it, especially for the fact that the most popular and hottest girl (according to them) in school is madly in love with me.
Her name is Jessica Breeves, another offspring of a noble family, voluptuous curves, quite possibly a cup size of double D, and she does not hide the fact that she has a crush on me. You would think that due to all this I would be pretty happy with my life, but as some noble family protagonist stories go, that's not true. Sure I'm rich, but honestly I don't care about it... okay, maybe a little, but of course due to me coming from such a family of high class, my parents made it their duty that I am at the top of everything, and in order for that to happen, anything that would be deemed as fun has been practically banned in the house.
Sometimes I wish I was a kid again, because back then, my parents didn't care about my grades as much and I could have as much fun as I wanted. There used to be this trilogy of games I loved to play back then called "The Legend of Spyro". I'm not sure why, but I always felt more connected with dragons than I did humans. Matter of fact, one of my favorite dragons was the constellation Draco. There was just something about its name that resonated with me.
But that's in the past, once I got into 3rd grade, they decided that it was time I took my studies seriously and pretty much threw out my gaming consoles, video games and kids books and replaced them with textbooks, notebooks and calculators. Every day when I wake up, get home from school and after eating dinner I am locked in my room forced to study, study and study. They wouldn't even let me eat dessert! When I want to do something fun, they shoot it down immediately and force me back into my room to continue studying.
It was honestly annoying how much my parents only care about my studying, so much so that upon looking at a shooting star one night, I wished to take a long break from it all. Little did I know that that wish would not just be granted, but it would also become the catalyst of what would be my journey back home. This is my story.
"Mmm…" the young white man with red hair, cyan blue eyes and a suit and tie fitting his size was currently enjoying his lunch with his only true friend. This is me, Jake Lancer and my friend's name is Miles Cunningham, a local nerd at our school who tends to get picked on when I'm not around him, who has more casual clothes and has brown skin, so that just adds more reasons for assholes to pick on him.
"So… how's your life treating ya?" Miles asked.
"Same as usual," Jake replied in a depressed tone. "Study first, fun never…"
"Man…" his friend says. "You know you can just come over to my house right?"
"And what, become grounded for a year because I missed one study session? Y'know what happened the last time I skipped out right? Plus my parents have something important that I need to attend to later today."
"Aw man, that sucks." Miles continues to eat until he takes a look to his right, and proceeds to goan. "Ugh… don't look now, but it seems your girlfriend has a new butler."
Jake then looks over to see Jessica Breeves with her rich friends standing next to her, with a poor, wimpy looking kid holding all her textbooks. "You know she's not my girlfriend Miles."
"Dude! I still don't know why you turn her down everytime she asks you out, she's a hottie to keep!"
"She's a snob, a jerk, and she only likes me because of my looks! If I end up having a girlfriend, I want her to love me for who I am, not because of how the cover looks. Plus I'm not really attracted by her looks either," Jake responds.
"That still confuses me," his friend replies. "But I guess beggars can't be choosers." The bell sounds off. "Welp, looks like our half day is done, see ya tomorrow, right?"
"Yeah." And with that, the school's half day came to a close. Jake walked over to his usual bus and got on, sitting in the back in his usual seat. He then opened his phone, the only source of entertainment he had, and proceeded to look at fanart or artwork of Spyro. Some he cringed at, some he liked. As the bus started moving, his eyes began to grow heavy, and without even realising it, he was fast asleep.
When his eyes reopened, he saw he was in a strange world filled with floating rocks in nothing but a black void, a strange castle-like structure in the distance. It took a little while, but Jake eventually recognized the place as The Chronicler's Realm from The Legend of Spyro games.
"What am I doing here?" he wonders to himself.
Deciding not to stand around, Jake proceeds to walk to what would be the library. Upon reaching it he enters walking into a room surrounded by bookshelves filled to the brim of books that have catalogued everything that happened in the dragon realms. After letting his eyes wander around the room for a bit, Jake then sees a familiar blue dragon who currently has his eyes glued to a book with an old leather covering, but unlike the Chronicler prior, this one appeared much younger. There was only one explanation.
"Ignitus?"
"Hmm?" the old Fire Guardian now Chronicler, began to turn his head around, but before he could see his face, Jake had already blacked out and began to reawake.
"Hey kid!" Jake could feel his shoulder being shoved and opened his eyes to meet those of the bus driver's.
"What?"
"Kid, you've been asleep for about an hour," the bus driver explains. When the words finally registered in his head, Jake began to panic.
"Wait! Where are we?!"
"Pan Street, why?" Pan Street was on the other side of town.
"I MISSED MY STOP!" Like a bullet, Jake ran off the bus and headed toward the nearest route to his house. He was grounded for sure.
If he wasn't in trouble before, he definitely was now. Not only was he 3 hours and 40 minutes late to return home (yes his parents have that kind of curfew), but now he was late for that important thing he was supposed to attend to about an hour ago, and now here he stands outside the mansion's doors, not really ready for what would be behind them. Deciding to just get it over with, he enters, and finds his father awaiting him on the stairwell, with the most disappointed scowl Jake had seen yet.
"So you finally arrive…" his father says in an angry growl. "What kept you?"
"...I fell asleep on the bus."
"That is no excuse!"
"It's a perfect excuse! After all, you nearly keep me up all night on my studies!"
"Don't talk back to me boy! Now," he then held out his hand, clearly awaiting something to be placed on it. "Don't make this any harder than it has to be!"
Knowing what it was he was asking for, Jake walked up to him, and held out his phone, his only source of entertainment, which was angrily snatched from his hand by his father who now held it up, out of his reach.
"I shall keep this until you've caught up with your studies." Which will never happen. It was just like all the other times he had something taken from him. His father then put it in his pocket and continued with his conversation. "Now I do believe you missed something important while you were gone, so allow me to bring you up to speed."
But before he could say anything else, a set of footsteps ran down the stairs to reveal Jessica Breeves. "Hello sweetie!" she called to Jake, who was currently in shock at seeing her in his own home.
"Dad, what is she doing here?!"
"She's here, because we had just gone through discussing your wedding," his father replied, to which Jake became even more shocked.
"W-What?!"
"That's right sweetums! We're getting married!" Jessica says. "Told ya you would be mine someday!"
"Dad, you can't do this!" Jake says to him.
"It has already been decided. If you wanted to object, you should have gotten here earlier!" his father counters. After giving Jake a kiss goodbye, much to his disgust, Jessica left the two Lancers to continue their argument, which would take a great turn for the worst. "In three years, you two shall wed, both Lancer Corp and Breeves Enterprises will be united and we will receive the money given from your grandparent's will. That is the end of it."
"But I hate her! I don't want to marry her dad! I-" but before he could say anything more, Jake was slapped across the face by his father, with the back of his hand.
"I will hear nothing more out of you! It was embarrassing enough to be late for your study session, but to miss our meeting entirely is another!" His father then calmed and recomposed himself before speaking again. "You will go to your room, and continue your studies, and don't even bother coming down for dinner later. You are to remain in your room except to leave for school until I say so, do you understand?" Jake couldn't even respond and just proceeded to nod yes, before running to his room.
Later that night, after his study session was over, he got into bed and began to reflect back on the events of today. Everything had changed so fast, and it wasn't at all to his liking. Once he turns 18 he will be married to a girl he doesn't even like, and now he's lost his phone and is now chained to his room and to go to bed hungry until his father sees fit.
Looking out the window he sees his favorite constellation Draco shining amongst the stars, almost like it was looking over him, and not long after that, he notices a shooting star fly across it. Now he had learned not to believe in superstition long ago, but at this point, he'll do anything to get away from this hellhole. So he closed his eyes, held his arms like he's giving a prayer, and wished.
"I wish to get away from all this, to not be a nobleman's child even for a day, to have fun."
And with that said and done, he got into bed, closed his eyes and fell asleep.
When he opened his eyes again, he found himself in a strange black void. He tried looking around for anything, and upon turning to his right, he found a strange silhouette. It was reptilian-like, had horns atop it's head, a long waving tail and a pair of leathery wings. What it's colors were, Jake could not tell due to the darkness surrounding them. He held his arm out to touch it, and it did the same. The two then seemed to gravitate closer until they both phased into each other.
Jake then felt an unbearable pain strike throughout his body as he felt it shift and change, his wish upon that shooting star repeating over and over again as he felt his body morph into a new form. He felt wings grow out from behind his shoulders, his neck elongated and a tail formed from above his butt. His body became quadrupedal, his hands and feet now sharp claws and horns had grown where his hair once was, and his mouth and nose had elongated into a snout. Red scales grew from nearly every part of his skin, dark crimson spines ran down from the top of his head to the tip of his tail and his underbelly had grown an armor-like shell the same color as his cyan eyes, whose pupils were now slitted. After that long sequence, Jake had finally passed out and began to awaken.
Author's Note: I've had this story idea in my head since before I started writing fanfiction, and now I'm about to write it, hope you enjoy it!
