The next morning
When Draco woke up, he saw the rocky surface of the new room he was staying at here in the Dragon Academy, which made him even more happy. Another day free from his life of being a nobleman. After he got up and refreshed himself for the day using a little water pool that was in his room, he then left for the dining hall for breakfast.
Once he got there he was waved over by Spyro as he and Cynder were currently sharing a table, as 'friends', and Sparx was flying right next to the purple drake. Seeing the said dragonfly reminded Draco of when he first met him, which went about as expected.
Flashback
After their encounter with Lapis Draco, Cynder and Volteer all went in search of Spyro and Terrador. When they finally caught up to them, the yellow dragonfly that was Spyro's surrogate brother was with them. The said purple dragon was the first to notice them.
"There you two are! Oh, Volteer you're here too?" he said.
"Spyro! How splendid it is to see you! Grand! Dazzling! Lavish!" the electric guardian said.
"Yes, yes Volteer," Terrador cut in before the said dragon could mention any more synonyms. "It is nice to know that both Spyro and Cynder are back."
"Along with a new friend it seems," Sparx said, drawing both Draco's and Cynder's attention to him. "He's not an evil dragon that got 'redeemed' right?" the dragonfly 'whispered' to Spyro. Everyone sweatdropped at that comment.
"Oh yes… I was a dragon king that tyrannically ruled over twenty realms before Spyro stopped me and taught me the error of my ways," Draco responds sarcastically, causing Cynder to stifle a laugh at seeing the dragonfly's reaction thinking he was serious.
"Seriously?!" he exclaimed.
"No… idiot."
Lets just say, the dragonfly wasn't that happy with Draco after that. He would now occasionally glare at the red and cyan dragon every now and then, 'keeping a close eye on him' as he said it. After their meetup, they all went and met the final guardian, the guardian of ice, Cyril. Upon discussing Draco's situation (and probably also due to Draco having cyan blue on his being, possibly hinting to an ice dragon heritage) he was given his room and place here at the dragon academy.
Back to the present, Draco now is sitting down with Spyro, Cynder and Sparx who was giving the usual glare to the red dragon, the three drakes discussing some recent news.
"So the guardians want to throw a festival in your honor in four days?" Draco asks.
"Yeah," Spryo says. "It will be one month since the war has ended and the Dark Master was sealed away for good this time."
"Yep," Cynder replies. "Everyone sees him as a hero, it's only natural that they give a big celebration in his honor."
"Don't forget about yourself," Spyro adds. "You helped just as much."
"I'm not the one that pulled the world back together," she counters.
"Ugh! It's like you're a married couple or something!" Sparx cuts in.
"Sparx, lay off," Draco tells him. The said dragonfly proceeds to glare back at the red dragon yet again, but at least remains quiet once more.
"Speaking of which, hey Cynder, back when we were in the world's core, right when I was about to use my power to restore the world, I thought I heard something…"
Cynder's eyes then widened and her smile became weary. "Oh? What did you hear?"
"I don't know. Do you by any chance?"
"Nope!" she said quickly as she stood up. Draco saw a little bit of reddish pink glowing beneath the scales of her cheeks, and instantly knew what they were talking about. Spyro looked at her confused causing her hidden blush to deepen. Before he could question things further she fled the dining hall as fast as she could.
"Ah… denial always seems to be the first stage of young love," Draco mumbled to himself. Unfortunately, Sparx heard his mumbles.
"What?!" grabbing the two dragon's attention. Realizing that his mumbling was probably heard, Draco looked for a way out also, and found his plate currently empty.
"Oh! Would you look at that? I haven't had breakfast yet!" he said before backing away with his wooden plate held in his left front paw. "I better get that befo-"
He was cut off when he accidentally backed into someone, causing them to drop their plate of food and land with an "oof!". Draco then began to apologize. "Oh! I'm so…" he then paused upon noticing the familiar dark blue scales of the dragoness he met yesterday. "Lapis?"
"...How do you know my name?" she asked, a little creeped out.
"Oh! Your Uncle told me!" he replied, causing her curiosity to fade and become sour.
"Oh… so now you know."
"Yeah." She then began to put the dropped food back on her plate. "Uh… want some help?"
"No, I'm fine," she said, sounding somewhat irritated, which Draco noticed.
"Hey, I just want to help because I want to."
"Don't bother trying to get close to this stuck up welp," came a bute-ish voice. The voice's owner belonged to a young earth dragon that had forest green scales, a brown underbelly and violet eyes. He was also followed by a posse of two other dragons. "Since she's that electric guardian's relative she thinks she's better than us. That's why she never hangs out with anyone, because she sees them as inferior to her!"
"You're wrong Boulder!" Lapis exclaims. "I never thought that!"
"Please! Everyone here knows it's true! You're so stuck up that your nose is in the clouds!"
Boulder and his posse then begin to laugh at her expense, with Draco finally thinking enough was enough.
"Hey!"
"Hmm? What, don't believe me?"
"No, in fact, I think the only one who believes their better than everyone here is you!" the red dragon accuses, causing all of the occupants of the dining hall to now have their attention on them. Instead of an insulted expression as Draco was expecting from Boulder, he instead got a bellow of laughter from the three dragons before him.
"That's because it's true!" said one of the posse members, who was an ice dragon.
"Yeah! Boulder's the strongest dragon in the academy, he could wipe the floor with anyone in seconds!" said the other member, a fire dragon this time.
"So? That doesn't mean he's best at everything," Draco attempts to counter.
"Oh, and what? You are?" Boulder replies.
"No, I see you as my equal honestly."
That caused Boulder to stop smiling and glare down at Draco, before trailing his eyes to the red dragon's tail, causing him to smirk as he quickly grabs the said tail much to the owner's surprise. Upon seeing it clearly, the earth dragon then gives off a hysterical laugh.
"Hey everyone! Look at red over here! He has no tail blade!" True to his word, unlike every dragon that was in the dragon realms, Draco did not possess a tail blade. The said dragon somewhat felt embarrassed as more and more dragons began to laugh at him.
"Y-Yeah? So what if I don't? That doesn't make me lesser than you!" He exclaims.
"Ha! If you don't have a tail blade then you are honestly pathetic! I bet you don't even know how to breathe your own element!"
"Hey!" Everyonethen stopped laughing and looked to see the new voice belonging to Spyro himself. He then walked up to Boulder and got in his face. "I suggest you put my friend down."
"Or what purple boy?" the earth dragon challenged, however his posse wasn't as supportive as before.
"Uh… Boulder, that's the purple dragon!"
"So what? You think I can't beat him in a fight?"
"Well…"
Boulder then became angered that his posse would think so little of him, but agreed that Spyro was called the purple dragon of legend for a reason, so he let Draco go and proceeded to leave with his posse in tow. Spyro then checked up on his friend.
"Hey, you alright?"
"Ah… just a few scratches to my pride but I'll be fine."
"Why?" came Lapis' voice as the two looked to see her still standing there but now had tears in her eyes. "Why would you do that?"
"I just couldn't stand by and watch him hurt you like that," Draco responds. "Though I was going for a non-physical approach..."
"You could have gotten hurt, or worse!"
"Yeah, maybe I would have, but I just can't stand people treating others like they're beneath them."
Lapis then just stared at him, a small blush forming. "You don't think I'm like that?"
"No, I could just tell that you aren't like that."
"...Thank you," she responds as her blush grows bigger.
"Hey… I know you probably won't like to, but maybe we could hang out sometime?"
"What, like a date?" she says as her face reddens more.
"Wha- No! No, no, no! Just as friends, y'know?"
"Oh! Okay, um… I'll think about it." She then leaves the two dragons and the crowd that had now decided to ignore them after Boulder left. Once she was out of sight Draco released a breath he didn't know he was holding. Upon facing Spyro, the purple dragon had a happy grin on his face.
"Only one day in Warfang and you're already making friends!"
"Yeah, well better do it right?"
"Not to mention she's quite the looker too, I think," Sparx adds with a knowing grin.
"What?! No! Nothing like that! She's my friend! That's it!" Draco then proceeds to walk away from the two brothers and on to get his breakfast.
Later
When it was around noon, Draco was seen wandering down a corridor when he heard someone running. When he turned he saw Lapis had run up to him. When she stopped she had an excited look in her eyes. "I have decided to take you up on your offer."
"That's great," Draco replies. "So, anywhere you interested in going to?"
"There's this lake we could check out…"
"Sounds nice…"
Little did they know, this was only the spark of a beautiful fire.
