As Draco and Lapis wandered around the town, the human turned dragon got to know a little more about his newest companion. The first place they went to was the lake she talked about. It was quite serene, a crystal blue lake with a gracious view of the sunset. Of course that's a few hours away, but that's for later. Upon coming to a puddle, Draco put his wing out in front of her.

"What?" she asks.

"Well, normally a girl doesn't like to get dirty," he says pointing to the puddle. "At least where I come from anyways."

Lapis just gives a playful smirk as she pushes Draco's wing out the way. "Well I'm not from where you're from," she says as she trudges through the puddle without a care in the world. Draco stood watching the dragoness saunter off in not shock, but admiration. "You coming?!" After her call, he ran through the puddle and caught up to her.

Later, they were now back in Warfang. "Ahh… it feels nice to be myself for a good time." Lapis says aloud. Draco hearing this questions her.

"What's wrong with being yourself all the time?" Lapis' face grows sullen.

"If I want to be anything like my uncle, I have to be just like him, but man does it suck to do so. Honestly I just want to be free to be the guardian that I want to be."

"Then why don't you?"

"Well, I don't want to disappoint my uncle. He probably expects me to be the greatest successor there is. That's why I put all my focus towards studying over making friends, even though I want to, but I need to be just like him! I have to!"

"Well, I kinda know how that feels," Draco thought, and with a determined look spoke. "You shouldn't forsake something like friends over becoming a guardian! Everyone needs friends, and if you should choose to be what kind guardian you want to be, not your uncle!"

"I don't want her to go down the same road I did, not on my watch!" he thought to himself.

"But, what if he…"

"I'll come with you. We can talk to him right now if you want!"

Lapis couldn't explain it, but seeing the drake's determined face seemed to persuade her into standing up to her uncle. "Alright! Let's do it!"

The two dragons now stood before the library, Lapis shaking in panic, but with a reassuring glance from Draco, they both proceeded through the doorway. Volteer took notice of them and his niece's worried face.

"Lapis, what's wrong?" he asks. The said dragoness calmed herself before she spoke.

"U-Uncle, I… I… Idontwanttobeaguardianlikeyouandwanttodoitmyway!" She spoke so fast that Draco worried Volteer didn't understand her, but he did, and proceeded to joyously laugh, much to Lapis' chagrin. "You… you think it's ridiculous don't you?"

"No… I'm just laughing because it took you this long to want to carve your own path!" Volteer replied, causing the two dragons to become confused.

"Huh?"

"Lapis, I never said I wanted you to become a guardian exactly like me. By the ancestors, I never asked you to become a guardian in the first place!" Volteer explained. "Lapis, there is one thing that every creature in the world shares, and that is the fact we are all unique. You could never hope to be me even if you tried, not because I'm too great or something, but because you're you. If you want to be a guardian in your own way, be my guest, just make sure you're prepared for that kind of responsibility."

After a few moments of shock and awe, Lapis smirked and declared, "Thanks uncle!"

Once they left the library, Lapis looked over to see Draco giving her a questioning gaze. "So, you just assumed he wanted you to be a guardian?"

"Hey, he was a guardian, and he never had children, so I only assumed he expected me to carry on the title!" she responded while giving him a slight nudge with her wing. "But, thanks for sticking by me through that. I really appreciate it."

The two stood looking at each other, until they realized how close their faces were and turned away with blushes beneath their scales. "*ahem* no problem," Draco replies.

"Y-Yeah… Well, I'll see you later then," Lapis says before walking away, Draco staring at her as she left, with a smirk on his face.

"Y'know for a dragoness, she's pretty easy on the eyes," Draco thought out loud, before realizing in shock what he just said. "Wait… did I just say I was in love with Lapis?! No! No! No, Jake! You can't be with her. She's a dragon and you're a human! Plus you're gonna leave eventually! It would never work out you idio-"

"Uhh… Draco?" The red scaled dragon slowly turned to his current audience, Spyro. The two stared at each other for a few moments until Draco broke the silence with a sigh.

"How much did you hear?"

"Enough to wonder what a human is and who's Jake."

"Come to my room, I'll talk."

30 minutes later

"So, let me get this straight," Spyro started. "You aren't actually a dragon, but is something called a human, which is basically an ape with a lot less hair and more brain, your real name is Jake Lance, you wished upon a star to go on vacation, woke up as a dragon in Avalar, and the reason you know me is because my story is basically a trilogy of 'video games', that are generally story books where you 'play' as me. Am I leaving anything out?"

"Nope, that's just about the gist of it," Draco replies.

"You're right. That does sound hard to believe."

"Hey! You promised to believe every word!"

"I did, and I do."

"...You do?"

"I highly doubt someone would create a lie as outlandish as that, plus you said it with such confidence you must be telling the truth, but why all the secrecy in the first place?"

"Because I doubted that you would believe me even if I told you."

"Yeah, I guess that's understandable." The two dragons then laughed. "Hey, I know I probably shouldn't ask, but in these 'games', did anything happen that I don't know about?" Draco then got a conflicted look on his face.

"Should I tell him?" Draco thought, in his head this time. Finally making up his mind, He answers. "Okay, I don't know if you have to die first in order to get the job, but… Ignitus became the new Chronicler after you put the world back together."

Spyro became shocked, surprised at what he heard. "He's… the Chronicler?"

"Again, I don't know if you have to die first, but it's true," the red dragon explained. "I also know how much he meant to you so I wouldn't lie to you about that, promise."

A few moments go by before Spyro shakes out of his stupor. "Thank you, Jake."

"Please, Jake is my human name, call me Draco."

"Right… uh… actually I was wondering about what happened at the world's core. Before I put the world back together… about what Cynder said." Draco then began to give Spyro a knowing smug glance, which upon noticing started to deeply blush.

"You have a crush on her don't you?" Draco questioned, upon which the purple dragon's blush deepened.

"...Yes…"

"HAHAHAHA, YES! I was hoping that was the case!"

"Uhh… so what did she say?"

"Uhh… I think it would be better for her to tell you."

"Oh come on!"

"This is Cynder's secret not mine. You want to know, ask her, or better yet, confess your love to her."

"WHAT?!"

"Come on dude. Just tell her how you feel. Whether she says yes or no will determine how she feels about you. You'll never know if she feels the same way if you don't ask."

"Ugh… fine…" Spyro reluctantly agreed, to which Draco made a small cheer of joy. "But you have to confess to Lapis then."

"...No," the red dragon responds sadly.

"Why not?"

"I can't do that to her. Even if she does feel the same way, my stay here is only temporary. One day in our relationship, we'll both wake up, but I'll be back in my old room, and she'll be all alone."

"Then why not make another wish?"

"What?"

"You made a wish on a star that brought you here, then you made a wish on another star to stay longer. Why not just wish on another star to stay forever?"

"I can't do that either!"

"Why not? As far as I've heard, your parents are horrible! A mother who ignores you and a father that only cares about perfection!"

"And yet they still took care of me!" The red dragon looked down sullenly as he spoke his answer. "Just because they treat me the way they do, they still took care of me. They gave me food, a home, a life. As long as I know they love me deep down inside of them, that's fine with me. I shouldn't just abandon them after everything they gave me, I just can't."

Spyro looked at Draco with a sad expression, and proceeded to leave the room. "...They don't deserve a kid like you."

"Could you do me one favor," Draco asked as the purple dragon gave his full attention. "Please don't tell anyone about what I told you until I've left."

"...Sure." And with that said, Spyro left the room, leaving Draco to go to bed, hoping for one more day in this magnificent world.
