It had been around noon when Luz had an important realization. Her friends had left the Owl House just a few minutes prior and she was still on the fence about why Amity and Willow were acting the way they did, while Amity would become very nervous and red when she was around, Willow would tease the green-haired witch about what Luz could only guess was her crush. But her crush wasn't in the Owl House and when she wasn't around, when Luz would watch Amity without her realizing, the youngest Blight would act normal, no nervousness or redness, just a little withdrawn, but apart from that, she was normal. And so the human thought it would be a good idea to spy Amity... To see who her crush was! She was totally not spying on her because she thought Amity was pretty, which she was, But she wasn't doing it because of that! It was to gather evidence and try to help, because that's what friends do... yup, friends.
The human began her investigations on Monday, or the equivalent of a Witch Monday, she had tried to learn the calendar, but when the days passed from triangles to circles and then back to triangles of a different color and the damn numbers rolled over the place she decided it wasn't worth the headache. Luz had to withdraw from Hexside after her first encounter with Belos, but Bump had been nice enough to always send her work and make sure that she had other ways of learning magic, which was nice of him. But one bad thing about not going to school anymore was that she couldn't get to see her friends as much anymore, only when they came up with plans to meet without the emperor's coven members capturing them. But that didn't matter right now, what she needed to do was figure out Amity's deal, and then help her friend. Starting her master plan, Luz woke up earlier than usual, and after a sip from apple blood, which turned out not to be the equivalent of apple juice, and more the equivalent of a beer, which explained a lot about Eda, the human ran at all her speed towards Hexside and hid behind a bush, waiting for school to start and students to enter the building, where she would see Amity wait for her, which Willow had told her the witch had been doing then remembered that Luz wasn't coming and go back to class. When Amity began to wait for her Luz was going to study if she acted strangely around anyone, then she would go to that person and... she didn't know what she was going to do, but it would be something bad! Wait... why bad? Wouldn't it make sense if she tried to get Amity and whoever she was crushing on together, that made sense, yet the human felt her heart stung at just the idea of Amity dating someone, yet Luz had no idea why. The human heard footsteps and chatting, and looking up from her hiding spot she saw students arriving, yet none of them were Amity, but it was still early and she always walked to school(Even when her leg was broken) so she was probably going to take a few minutes. A minute soon became two and two five and five ten and there was no trace of the green. Maybe she was sick today? Luz was about to give up when she heard someone run past her, looking up she saw Amity running inside like her life depended on it, she looked very nervous and very disheveled. Lipstick marks were around her lips and there was what Luz could only assume was a hickey on her neck. The human gulped and sat back down... turns out she didn't have to figure out who Amity's crush was, she was apparently already dating them since the lipstick and hickey and... Luz should be happy, happy that her friend found love, yet all she could feel was an immense feeling of sadness and anger, and what some might have mistaken as jealousy. Why hadn't Amity told her that she was dating someone? Didn't she trust her with it? Maybe she had reasons not to tell her, yet the human wanted to know who it was. It was an awful idea, and she knew Amity would be very angry if she found out, and Luz was torn between the decision of finding Amity's partner or leaving. Her mind said leave, yet her heart said stay, and as rational as Luz was, she listened to her heart.
"Heeey Mittens." Amity gulped and smashed her head against her locker. Just her luck, any other day she would escape the absolute buffoonery that her siblings pulled up, but today, the day she needed to be left alone, was precisely the day they decided to mess with her. Did they have a radar for these types of things? "What?" Amity questioned dryly, she was already late and she didn't need the twins to ruin her day any further. "So, what's with the new look?" Em teased, and Amity went red. "Nothing." The youngest Blight mumbled. "Nothing? Were you making out with someone?" "No, I was not!" Amity yelled at her sister, who only chuckled. "Wait. Who were you making out with? As far as I know you and Lu-" "Shut up Edric! I wasn't making out!" Amity just couldn't believe her luck. Why did the titan hate her so? "Then what happened?" The twins did that weird thing of talking at the same time, and Amity just wanted to get this over with. She knew that Ed and Em had some weird thing that allowed them to know when Amity was lying, and if she did lie now then she knew they would push her until she craked, but if she told them what happened then she would never hear the end of it. "If I tell you then you have to promise you won't tell anybody." Amity already regretted her decision the second she saw their faces, they both looked hurt. Amity knew that Ed and Em were trying to become better siblings, and she was also making an effort, they only had each other after all, so the youngest Blight doubted they would tell anybody. "Promise." They both said, no longer teasing. "I... was practicing kissing and the spell backfired and accidentally became a sucking spell and gave me a hickey... But I wasn't making out!" Amity snapped, she looked expectantly at the twin's faces for a second. "How do you accidentally do a sucking spell?" Ed wondered while Emira stared wordlessly at her. "It wasn't supposed to suck that hard," Amity replied, she was sure she was going to die of embarrassment any second now. But thankfully for the witch, the Titan decided that they were doing taunting her, the bell screamed and everyone started going to class, Amity took her books and made a dash towards her next class, that was exactly in the opposite way of where she was going, but the witch decided that being late was better than going back with Edric and Emira.
Luz smiled behind the trash can she was hiding in. Amity wasn't dating anyone! Or maybe she was... But at least she wasn't making out with them, which was something. But her job wasn't done just yet! She still needed to find out who her crush was. She just didn't know how... maybe she could ask Ed and Em, but Luz doubted they would tell her, maybe Willow would help, but she also wasn't going to spill anything. Why did it have to be this complicated?! Luz had had crushes before and never had she made such a big deal out of it! Partly because nobody was there to care about her and Luz had grown to become very secretive with her feelings, but also because it just wasn't a big deal, someone she liked was cute and nice and whatever, it was like the cold and would be over in a week or two. But maybe this was Amity's first crush, maybe she really liked this person, and it went beyond a simple crush. Luz sighed and looked around for anyone, but no witch or demon walked the hallways anymore, she couldn't go to class, and the best she could do now was leave and beg Willow to tell her what was going on. Maybe it was Willow? Maybe the reason Amity became so flustered and nervous was because Willow was there? Maybe Willow knew and teased Amity because she didn't like her back... or maybe she did? No... as far as Luz knew Amity and Willow were not friends yet, much less girlfriends. But Luz hadn't been to school in a while, so maybe something had happened while she wasn't there, maybe they wanted to keep their relationship a secret. Luz felt her eyes water at the thought, yet she had no idea why, she didn't know why the idea of Amity dating someone made her chest hurt so much, she didn't understand her sudden need to cry, all she knew was that she wanted Amity to herself. Was that selfish? It was beyond selfish, but Luz couldn't help it. Maybe there was something wrong with her. Maybe Amity didn't need someone as selfish as Luz to ruin her happiness. The human stood from her hiding place and ran outside as fast as she could, she didn't know where to go, the idea of going back to the Owl House and being questioned made Luz's breath short, she wanted to be left alone with her all too confusing thoughts. Maybe she could go to the Grom tree? Luz felt herself about to scream. Why did she have to think about that!? The Grom tree where Amity had confessed she was in love with someone who wasn't Luz- "Oh." Luz stopped on her track involuntarily having brought herself to the trail that led to the tree. Luz was in love with Amity. It made so much sense now. The way her chest would hurt whenever she would think about anybody dating Amity, or how giddy she would become whenever she would think about her, about how pretty and nice she was, about how strong and brave, and about how soft her lips would be and how was she figuring this out just now? It seemed so obvious, yet Luz was still somehow surprised at her discovery. The dark-skinned teenager walked to the tree, although it stung it didn't need to be this painful. Her crush would disappear in a few weeks, maybe even less, yet that thought made Luz want to cry, she didn't want her crush to leave, she wanted Amity to have a crush on her, but the human knew that that wouldn't be possible. Amity liked somebody else, she had said it herself, right in the Grom tree. But the tree wasn't at fault, more like Luz, she knew she would never be enough for Amity, and if the tree symbolized that she would never like her as a lover, then it would be the tree of friendship.
Luz looked around the cliff, and to her surprise, she found the other part of Amity's note. It was broken to pieces and mushy since it had been about three weeks since Grom, but it could be legible if she tried. 'No, that was private and you shouldn't read it.' Luz scolded herself. 'But weren't you trying to figure it out earlier?' Luz reminded herself, torn between the two parts of her less than sane mind Luz picked up the paper on impulse, she doubted for a minute before opening it. The ink was all around the paper and it was barely legible, yet it clearly said her name. Luz. The human teen felt her breath get caught in her throat... Amity wanted to ask her out to Grom, and she was afraid she was going to get rejected by Luz. And then she had the nerve to friendzone her, just how big of a dolt was she. But now it was too late, While Luz began to doubt about the whole Willmity deal it left her with a question. She liked Amity and Amity hypothetically liked her back, then what. Luz for what felt like the first time that day listened to her head, the two of them could barely talk anymore because of dumb Belos, and in the time that they could it was mostly war planning, this wasn't the time for romance. Not when there was a rebellion. Not when she knew they would only get hurt. The best thing she could do was wait and hope that Amity would still like her when all of this was over. All she had to do was pretend she didn't see her.
"And that's how I figured out I was in love with your mother, then we got married and stuff," Luz said with pride. "Wow, mom wasn't lying when she said you were oblivious," A girl no older than eight commented, causing her sibling to giggle. "Did you seriously thought I was dating Willow?" Amity questioned, barely believing what she had just heard. "Well, as you said, I am kinda oblivious, not as oblivious as you thought, but you know." Amity shook her head in faux frustration. "It would have been so much easier if you had confessed then," Zedric spoke, and he was probably right. "Well if I did then we wouldn't have had such an epic love story to brag about." The human replied, then moved to the side to kiss the witch, causing both witchlings to gag. "Eww, stop it!" Azura and Zedric both yelled, moving in between the kiss, causing both women to laugh. "Are you jealous? I think you are." Amity said, an evil smirk covering her face, and the next thing the twins knew was that they have been thrown down on the bed and were being tickled and kissed by their mothers, causing them both to laugh as if their lives depended on it. For a second Luz felt bad about not having told Amity about her feelings and having left her in the dark for so many years, but everything had played out in the end, and she shouldn't feel too guilty about it. Luz was thankful that she had decided to listen to her heart when she did, granted, listening to her head had been a smart decision, yet her heart always knew best, and the best decision she had made was to tell Amity, along with proposing, marrying her and having children, but it all began there. Also, the idea of Willmity still made her laugh, she really had been as dense as Amity played her out to be.
