As the egg sat at the bottom of the bay there was a large amount of commotion going on above in the port town of Sea Faire. Every year at this time the town holds a festival where many traders and merchants from far away come to display and sell their wares to the visitors of the town. Sea Faire is a fairly small town but it has constant visitors because of it being one of the few towns to have trade by sea as well as a large guild residing in it. It isn't easy for any town to get a guild for training and recruiting new explorers and the training can be gruesome so they are very selective in the recruits.

Sea Faire is a town that has been around for as long as anyone can remember. Only the elder of the town knows the full story and passes it down among their descendants as they take over the position. A story that many have long forgotten but still see the effects of the decisions made in the time of the town's beginning, today. The elder of the town currently only has one daughter but not a daughter of his own blood. The Elders of Sea Faire as long as time can tell have never had biological children, they always adopt an orphaned pokemon as their own so if you were to look at the long line of Elders past it would definitely confuse a good amount of pokemon with all the changing species. The current elder is an Arcanine but his daughter is a Lurantis. So the confusion and speculation of outsiders is large.

The Arcanine was usually just referred to as Elder but the Lurantis had been given the name Bloom. Bloom was at that age where she wanted to have a child of her own. She wanted a life to raise and guide by her own hands but she had never felt it right to find a mate and settle down. She wanted to adopt like her father had adopted her and all the ancestors of their family before them. She wanted to give a life that glimmer of hope, that love of family that the Elder gave to her when she was just a Fomantis lost and in despair. She had seen many orphans come and go and be taken in by others, she had some she had considered taking in but they never felt like the right fit even if they were sweet natured and obedient. Bloom could never understand why they didn't feel like the right fit and it frustrated her. Her father told her to be patient that she would know in time the child that was meant for her but she was losing her patience.

Choosing to spend the day distracting herself she decided to go around town and see how the preparations were coming along. Roaming the streets many merchants had their vendor carts set up and were prepared to display their wares for the next week to earn money to take home to their families. The guild was proceeding in its usual decision to put explorers in training around as security in case of thieves and the townsfolk were preparing with decorations to welcome the tourists and foreign pokemon to the town. Everything was running as smoothly as it always did and that made Bloom happy to see her home so full of life and smiles. As she passed by the port though she heard a shout from the water. Apparently something had been found at the bottom settled in the sand that had not been there the day before. A storm had just passed and the waters had just calmed so it wasn't that surprising something had been washed up into the bay. Moving closer to learn more Bloom could finally make out more of the frantic words being shouted by the Buizel in the water.

"THERE'S AN EGG DOWN HERE!"

Bloom jumped at that one sentence, at first she thought maybe it was the egg of a water pokemon and it made sense as to why it would be underwater but the next shout sent her into worry.

"IT'S COVERED IN ALGAE LIKE IT'S BEEN UNDER FOR MONTHS. I DON'T THINK IT'S A WATER TYPE EGG IF THAT'S THE CASE!"

The spectators had been asking about a description and the Buizel was right. If it was a water type pokemon egg it would have long hatched well before algae or the like could grow on the egg. Whatever the egg was it couldn't be a natural water type egg. Panicking Bloom ran toward the edge of the water and the townsfolk made way for her.

"Bring the egg up for me, please. I'll take it back to my house and see about tending to it with my father to make sure it's okay." The Buizel nodded in response and dove back under to retrieve the egg. After a few minutes he resurfaced and delivered the algae covered egg to Bloom for inspection and for her to take with her. Upon looking at the egg Bloom felt her heart pick up in speed as it beat and she felt a strong connection to and want of this egg. This egg was to be her child, the new life in her family to raise and nurture. She didn't know why, she just felt it to be so and pulled the egg close to her chest to cradle it.

After thanking the Buizel, Bloom went to make her way back to the house at the head of the town where her and her father resided and to deliver the news about what had happened and inform him of her decision to raise this egg. Deciding to inspect it on her way back she started to clear off the Algae to see the egg below and saw it matched the color of the growing plant and had come to blend in to it. The egg seemed to have adapted and taken on the features of the algae growing on it and was no longer recognizable as an egg she knew. That didn't change her feeling of attachment to the egg in the slightest, though and the more she stared at the egg the more she loved it and was impatient for it to hatch so she could meet her new family member.

Upon reaching the house she explained everything to her father and he looked at her knowingly as her excitement was quite visible in the way she talked about the egg and how she cradled it ever so gently he knew she had finally found what she was after. He approved of her adopting the egg and suggested they put it in the small pool of bay water in the back as it had spent months adapting the egg would probably no longer hatch outside of the water. After placing it in the pool all the two could do now is wait and wait Bloom did.

Every day she would visit the pool in the morning, afternoon and before bed. She would talk to the egg about her day, what was going on in the town and any kind of news she could think of. She told the egg about the festival and how they could go to it together next year. Before long Bloom started sleeping in the room next to the pool talking to and watching the egg. Her love for whatever was to hatch grew stronger each hour of each day and parting from it for even just a short time to run errands was a task in and of itself. Days turned into weeks and Bloom began to worry about what if her little egg didn't hatch at all, the thought was too much for her to bear. By this point she had decided on names for the egg whether it was a boy or a girl. She decided to use its experiences and appearance in color to pick the names. If it ended up being a boy she had decided to name him Riptide. If it was a girl, which she was just the tiniest bit hoping for, she had picked out a name regarding the algae growing on the egg. As she thought fondly of the first meeting with the egg she heard a sound that caught her attention.

The egg had started to shake back and forth causing ripples in the small pool jumping to her feet, she watched the egg move back and forth as a bright light started to slowly envelop the shell. Calling for her father she watched mesmerized as the movement became more frantic and the light continued to grow. The Elder made it into the pool room just in time to be blinded by a bright flash of light and hear the sound of a large CRACK!
