Chapter 4: The War of Adaptation

"Alright, how many of you know the story of the War of Adaptation?" Cairn paced back and forth in front of the recruit class that was just starting training at the Guild but in the group there were two non-recruits that were given permission to come and learn by the Elder of Sea Faire, Ceris and Chlorophynta. The two looked at each other in confusion as Cairn asked the question while pokemon around them raised their paws and wings in assent that they knew. Cairn seeing the responses continued on. "Seeing as there is a fair amount of you who don't know I'll explain it to you."

Cairn makes his way back to the front of the group and Phy watches as he does so. It was evident that Cairn and Ceris had adapted well to their new environments in Sea Faire. Cairn was a natural leader and he pulled your attention to him wherever he was, he just had that kind of Aura. As for Ceris, after settling in as the youngest of the head family of Sea Faire he showed and voiced interest in being the next Elder after Bloom and after long discussion their mother and grandfather gave their consent after Phy made it known she would rather travel and see more of the world. While it made her mother sad she understood that the life as Sea Faire's elder didn't really suit the young Rockruff.

"Now for those of you who don't know about the War. It happened many generations ago and led to how we live now. The pokemon of the past strived to eradicate from one side and unite from another, the War lasted many years and not many were satisfied with the outcome but the legendaries had had enough and put an end to the war. While this is just the summary of the war we know the story is much more cruel than that. Rather than just telling you the summary I intend to tell you the long version of the War so you may be sitting here for a while." After looking over the group to make sure there were no objections Cairn continued.

"Hundreds of years ago Deltas and Hybrids did not have the liberty to mix freely among the Normals. They were shunned, hunted, and hated for what they didn't choose to be. Deltas and Hybrids had their own small communities and hideaways from the majority of the world. Many were terrified to go out and get food unless it was the night of a new moon. This led to much stress and alienation for the abnormals, as they came to be referred to as. The abnormals wanted the right to live without fear under the sun rather than being hunted and singled out for differences they had no choice in having."

"Eventually the tension became too much and the abnormals banded together to form an army. They formed an army to defend themselves and their livelihoods that the normals refused to allow them to have in peace. The normals saw the abnormals as stains on their pristine world that needed to be eradicated. They decided they needed to kill off every last one so that their world could be clean again so the normals formed an army as well. One side set on eradication, the other set on winning their right to normalcy. The war waged for decades, only ending after fifty years of bloodshed and lost lives from both sides after the legendaries finally had enough. Arceus descended along with the rest of the legendary and mythical pokemon in tow to give his verdict of the ongoings and to stop the war. Now normally these high and mighty rulers wouldn't get involved but it came to be known they had been having their own debate up above, at least the Clan Leaders had. There is more than one individual to each legendary and mythical species. The ones who make the decisions regarding the lower realm are the Clan Leaders who are the oldest of the species they come from. Once one is ready to retire the next steps up to take their place."

"Now these leaders had finally come to a decision on how to handle this outburst between the groups. Arceus was the one to deliver the verdict of their decision and told all pokemon in attendance of the war that they were to cease and desist henceforth and share the world as it was meant to be shared. Many from the normal army protested only to be paralyzed in fear by one of the leaders Glares. Arceus continued to explain that Deltas and Hybrids were a natural but rare phenomenon and that they had just as much right to live and walk the land as the normals did. They didn't choose what happened to them but they had to live with it regardless. After laying down their decision the leaders prepared to leave and head back to their homes. The final day of the War was referred to from then on as the Day of Damnation by the most outspoken normals and the Day of Salvation by the abnormals who spent much of their lives in fear of an untimely death. The outcome left many unsatisfied but as the Legends had spoken then they could only follow."

"Faiths started to start up after the war. Many took symbolization in the personality and clan abilities of the Legendaries and Mythicals and decided on what the Faiths were idolized as in following those pokemon. From my understanding there are as many faiths as there are legendary and mythical clans but not all pokemon follow them for the chosen causes and tend to follow them for darker or more...unmentionable means. But we won't be getting too much into the Faiths today as this was only meant to be a lesson over the War. We will go over more about the Faiths another day after you have gotten more experience exploring and learning of the world itself. Run off now and go do your missions." Cairn ended his story there and the recruits of the Guild ran off to carry out their duties for the day. Ceris and Phy looked at each other in wonder before rising to their paws and thanking Cairn for the lesson on the War before heading back to the Elders house to see what needed to be done around the town.
